He broke even in his first year while buying most of the equipment new (many of it completely oversized for the job) and investing into the construction of the new shop and various other hobbies despise being advised they won't make much money but take time and money.
Considering all his investments that won't be there in the following year break even is actually impressive
Clarkson's Farm has done so much to highlight the trials and tribulations everyday farmers face day to day. Bravo Jeremy, possibly the most impactful series you've ever done.
and British farmers have it easy compared to those on the continent...
@@jwenting explain please
@@jorawarsingh2595 farmers in the Netherlands and Germany are facing crippling EU regulations that are making it utterly impossible to keep their business going.

@@Boo-pv4hn that's better than kicking them off their land with next to no compensation and then giving it to project developers to build industrial estates and housing projects.
I’ve always respected farmers but watching this and seeing how much can go wrong. I appreciate even more than they’d ever know
I used to work on a farm. They have insurance for these eventualities. Or rather, you can buy that insurance for crop failure. But it was interesting nonetheless
@@silverismoney and the subsidies
I'm sure many are much more capable.
The ban on neonic's is one thing that can be agreed on, is a good thing. They are non species specific. Even Bee's who pollinate the crops can be affected and killed off. Killing off a beetle with neonic's, and then killing off the pollinators means next year you have less bee's to bring the fruit growth on.
This is why farming needs additional R&D support. These problems can be fixed with a chemical, that creates a detrimental knock on effect down the line that can be cumulative. There are other solutions, but those solutions have consequences as well. It's all about balancing the systems to get what you need out of it without buggering up the systems ability to produce as much next year... And mother nature is always giving a boon, or a hinderance to that goal that you have to be knowledgeable of in how to work around the problem.
Someone should make a compilation of Jeremy’s absolute dismay throughout the first season of this show. It would be legendary!
From all the govement subsadies he gets not to grow any crops its enough to keep him going
remember when he took the sheep for slaughter. Came back to find them gone. Still ate the mutton tho'🤣
I love his arrow straight planting skills with the tractor
Now he has blown his career away
@@oscarosullivan4513 well not really, he said something a bit extreme, because he was angry at someone, and he was just speaking his mind, but ooh no, apparently saying someone should have faeces thrown at them is misogynistic and racist, these people saying that should go and ask a Ukrainian man who has been shot fighting for his freedom if he cares, they should ask a Syrian Child who’s home has been blown up do they care, they should ask a starving family in Somalia suffering the worst drought in decades do they care, honestly I’m sick of this bullshit of getting offended at something that pales in comparison to true racism and misogyny, it’s stupid, it’s useless, it doesn’t benefit humanity in anyway and it draws attention from the real issues going on in the world. Yes he shouldn’t have said it but it wasn’t “Misogynistic” or “Racist” it was just someone saying something publicly they should of kept to themselves and now it has the chance to ruin their career. Also Jeremy is known for exaggerating his hate over things like in the Grand Tour. Anyone who is fighting over this should shut up and go do something that benefits society. Also I’m not agreeing with Clarkson, he shouldn’t of said those things it was wrong but the reaction has been too extreme. Also Meghan could of easily fired back with some thing like: I hate Jeremy Clarkson, I hate him more than I hate Kanye West, I dream of him being hung naked publicly in the middle of London with it being broadcast live and his naked dead body dragged around the roads of England by a Toyota Prius, and it would be bad yes but we can’t stop either of them because that’s free speech. Yes it’s bad and extreme, but you can ignore it or fire back. We need to Cop-on as a society and tackle real racism, and really misogyny, not some random bullshit a TV host said in an article. Rant finished.
This series was probably the most important series that Clarkson has ever done.
Important because he shows how one industry has problems? All industries have problems. If you think these are real issues stop using fossil fuels and contributing to climate change.
@@bryannonya9769 he still showed it… bringing attention to one issue is not taking away from another
Clarkson has never produced an "important series". He simply churns out low-brow product to keep the public misinformed. He has spent much of the last 20 years encouraging the use of the Internal Combustion Engine, and in recent years producing blatant misinformation to discourage the use of alternatives, and is now complaining that his current project Hobby Farm is affected by changing weather patterns etc Which Is The Result Of Global Warming ie the over-use of Fossil Fuels.
@@bryannonya9769 Running out of farmers means running out of food and that to me is a much bigger issue than most other industries have. Please tell me of the other issues other than water, energy, and healthcare because all 4 are on the same level of importance to survive.
@@bryannonya9769 That's a very short sighted view on a very big problem. Yes, all industries have problems. There are however industries that have a much bigger impact on society than others, food industry being pretty high on that list. Also not all problems he showed are related to climate change.
Heartbreaking for the farmers who rely on the crops as their livelihoods.
Clarkson and Kaleb showed it quite well. You can't live on crops alone. You need to do a lot of other stuff on the side, sheep, chicken, have a shop, do construction work etc,
Every penny you find on the ground you have to scrape up and when you do you have to dig in the ground hoping you find another penny. We complain about the price of food now, we should be happy it's as cheap as it is.
@@Vollification if that's the calibre of modern farming , yes, we should all be thankful.
There’s no money in farming unless in Europe which you get tractors and everything for half price etc
@@bekabeka71 If there where no money in farming no one would do it, but i get your point
@@Vollification is the smaller farmers suffering, the agro-buisnessmen operating mega farms are doing quite nicely
I liked Clarksons farm so much as much he fumbled through doing the series it gave so much exposure to what Farmers have to do and go through for their crops. They are so taken for granted for such vital role in our society
Before this series I didn't realise how much the weather affects farmers, the fact the government don't seem to care either. We need to back our farmers
"We've just got to work within the rules" is the British national motto.
I just love Charlie, he's superb. The deadpan delivery of bad news!
No fluffing around. Just delivers the info as ordered. I want my advisors to be exactly like that.
Puffter likes other pufter. It is so natural
I work in sales for a company and our head of accounting who is also british reminds me so much of "cheerful charlie" Lmfao
From the viewpoint of highlighting to the general population the kinds of problems that farmers have to deal with, year in, year out, I don't think Clarkson could have chosen a *better* time to start farming.
The facts he’s in disbelief is just pure comedy 😂😂
Never mind Jezza, I spent 2 weeks at the campsite next to your farm shop summer ‘22 and bought 6 bottles of your cow juice! I mean, I must have practically kept you afloat this year. Will be back summer of ‘23 to help you out again mate 👍🏻😁🐄🥛
Hoping that if Jeremy can make it through this then hopefully when the weather gets better, he'll be a stronger farmer for it.

I have learned so much about farmers and farming, where my food comes from and the difficulties faced by those who get it to me. Even though I'm in the USA farmers I'm sure face many of the same struggles against weather, pests and government. I have a new and immense appreciation for farmers and what they need to do to survive under pressure to sell out to factory farm corporations that can swallow losses they can't
The ability of the government to fvck you sideways is eye watering.

If that is the case, the trio can take their shows to other non-woke streaming services. They bring in massive viewership and profit, I refuse to believe this is the end .

@Santiago Oehler Toca Correct, it is a Hobby Farm there for the purposes of producing 'product' for the TV company. Any smart farmer is moving away from the sort of production portrayed on this film set.

I really enjoyed the series. As I grew up around farms and worked on them as a teenager it's something i've always wanted to do myself but, well, you need several million £ to be able to do it now. But good for him. He looked like he enjoyed a lot of it, and at least he wasn't making stupid selfies of himself and being an "influencer". I look forward to season 2!
No Clarkson no need for prime
I was just at his farm last week. Flew 7,000 miles to see it. Cant wait for season 3. I got the milk bottle and a tote bag.

Grew up on a small farm in southeastern US. If it wasn’t the market it was the weather, or equipment. But it was honest hard work
I don't care what Mr Clarkson said about anybody! Free Speech! The only mistake he made was to say sorry. I'm scouring RUclips at 4am in search of Jeremy Clarkson videos to like in support of Mr Clarkson!
Just a small add on re the dealer before harvest it was to hire a decent combine so you can harvest when the time and weather is right .

What jeremy did whit this show is incredible!!!!people dont know how hard it is to be a farmer!!!!they always complain that the food is expensive and so on!?!this is why!!!!these people work theyre ass off!!!you can loose everything in a week!!!a years work!!!!
while he might whinge about not being able to kill the beetle, but he needs to remember that people are going to consume his product and we would all thank him very much for not putting poison on our food
East coast of Australia have had 4 one in one hundred year floods literally within 6 months!
Here we sometimes use aerial seeding and fertilising. Who would be a farmer?!! At least you don’t have issues with foreign ownership of water rights. Or government recovering water from farmers in catchments only to give it to foreign mining or foreign owned huge cotton farms.
Only reason i keep Amazon Prime is because of Clarkson .

Coating seeds is a terrible, terrible thing, not just for the environment, but for farming itself also. This is a terrible thing for a farmer to learn that a field has been attacked this way, don't get me wrong.
But, it doesn't just kill the beetles. It also prevent all the pollinators from coming to your farm and kills many of them in the process. And guess what, if you have no pollinator, you have no crop - at all. And this is just the known part of the iceberg. Coating seeds probably have many more effects on soil nutrients that we don't even know about yet. Plus, after a couple of years, the said beetle will have evolved to not be affected by the said-coating. The pollinators, on the other hand, will all have been gone forever. This is always how it goes. If you have a parasite in your field, you will have to use intelligence to get rid of it, not petrochemicals.
Clarkson seems to portrait the problem as one-sided, but it is not. There are ways to make sure that the beetle will not be there. One of the being to not do a monoculture... Conventional monoculture is the main problem here. Not to mention all the problems it causes pollution-wise.
As for the weather, well... He should know that with all the CO2 that he so very loves to pump into the air with his big cars, this is just the beginning of what he's gonna get. One year it's going to be just rain, the other one, no rain at all... But I guess talking about "climate changes" was not part of the equation. Because Lamborghini or some other stupid skit...
I love the reaction to the beetle... It is so painfully true because most dont realise that is what pests can do. We farmers dont mind (our live freaking depends on) bio diversity but we hate pests.....
Rest in Peace to the Grand Tour and Clarksons farm
Wrong
Hoping Jeremy would say "Can I sue the EU for the loss then?"
Well UK isn’t in the EU anymore……. Brexit was supposed to fix everything, even the rain
if he relocates to France....maybe he likes the idea, French passport, free traveling again, just not to the UK , but that is just one tiny country!

Standard for many farmers. "The whole field is dead, though shit."
There is a reason so many landowners just started keeping sheep during the industrial revolution.
Rookie numbers. Jeremy should come the American midwest
Someone should make a series or atleast a documentary on farmers plight in India. Not trying to disregard the dismay caused by the excess rains here in this video, but in India it is far more extreme than what you just saw. Torrential rains that would start flash floods across the regions, these floods will wash way the fertile layer of the soil which has all the organic content required by the plants and is CRITICAL for the plants to grow/sustain and this would be the LEAST of the farmer's problems as he would be busy trying to survive the rain/flood. On the contrary, the draughts here are even worse, which I cannot even describe how bad it gets.
I feel so sorry for Jeremy and the other farmers. They work so damned hard only to see it all float down shit creek (sorry!). Jeremy is probably a little luckier than other farmers because he has other activities, but still it's heartbreaking. One thing is strange though. Everything that man touches, whether trees or plants, seem open to all sorts of illnesses and parasites. But taking a look at spots where greenery grows naturally, everything seems to live in some kind of harmony...rigorous and healthy, with the insects not having such an awful effect on the plants. Have we created some sort if imbalance?
Yes we have..
We unnaturally concentrate resources for cultivation, and that allows pests to unnaturally thrive.
