Its actually a chemical product that purifies the water through multiple processes not just removing the mud Go watch a video by Mark Rober where he explains the science behind it
The first chemical is called a coagulant and typically is a derivative of aluminum. The clumping is called flocc and binds the solids together so they can settle out. The remaining water can be disinfected more effectively because the bugs have less places to hide. High volume municipal water production follows the same general procedure.
I appreciate this video very much. Growing up in Russia, we had to walk far to prep hay for the cattle. Couldn't carry much water. These packets are solution to a problem we had back in a day. I saw some mocking comments regarding the performance of the packets. Those are coming from people who have no idea of being in a situation more than a block away from a grocery store.
Facts. MOST& I MEAN 99.7% of the people who type in "English" have never been thirsty. Let alone have any idea what clean water is. Especially as they turn the handle to their disgusting chemically endured "fresh" tap water at their faucet.
I wanted to love this product, i had discovered the P&G Purifiers of Water a few years back, and while it works, it was impractical to bring a five gallon collapsible bucket with you, while backpacking. And this is where this beauty comes in a small portable rollup bag that can hold five gallons, and after watching this review i was sold! But that is where the good ends with this product, the sliding piece that you see him put on, to close the bag is impossible to completely seal. And shaking the bag, like what is done in the video, within 30 seconds the plastic piece would come undone and the water would fly out everywhere! And you have no idea how frustrating that is after watching this review and you see this guy doing it so effortlessly! Before this product can really be the Ultimate Water Treatment System, the closing system needs to be redone or even dome away with and replaced with a standard screw on lid!
@@bellascythe9594 That was one example and pesticides can kill you. I’m not saying to put pesticides into the water I’m saying you have no idea what’s in the water. The pesticides could already be there.

Hey! Just a friendly reminder this does purify the water, it clears out the dirt, andddd it also has a packet containing chlorine in levels small enough for human consumption but large enough to kill any bacteria or anything else harmful
You forget that there are better products that do this faster, and won't get holes like a plastic bag will. @@Slenderkllz i know about the agent nakes the dirt sink. Im just saying in case you dont have those. The cloth filter the bigger chunks that would clog the filter straw.
For those who are curious, this process in known as flocculation. When particulate is small enough, it forms a colloidal suspension, where it will not settle out on its own like a mixture of sand and water would. This is due to the density of the individuals particles, plus the fact that the particulate carries a charge. So just like a magnet, two particles with the same charge don’t want to get close together. Because the stay separated, they remain small enough to be suspended. To break the suspension, a charged chemical known as a coagulant (usually heavy metal bonded to chloride or sulfate) is used to neutralize the charges between the particulates. They can then get close and forms clumps known as “floc” that are now heavy enough to settle. Sometimes a polymer is also added to help form bigger floc to settle faster. All other ions stay in solution, unless precipitated by the charge carried by the coagulant. Bacteria is usually not effected in basic sediment flocculation. I’d be curious the ingredients of this product. I don’t think I’d want to drink Aluminum Sulfate left behind, or long chain polymers…
I understand it's a meme but the main purpose of the packet is to kill waterborne bacteria (rated at 99.999% effective) and viruses/parasites (rated at 99.99% effective). Those ratings are of course an average and nothing can be guaranteed, especially with user error, but those kinds of purification packets from P&G (and others) really are a lifesaver if used properly.
@@hans27450 boiling water DOES NOT kill viruses or bacteria depending on where you get the dirty water to boil from. Always best to carry additives or chlorine tablets besides just boiling the water

@@pgi_thapanabin4940 Obviously. What else could he possibly be talking about?
