It's an interesting concept, but I would still run the water through my Grayl to make sure I get all of the possible contaminants. I'll use a milbank bag and pre-filter the water that way to remove the debris first.
Question, sir. For biological contamination the Puri Bag seems to fine. However, how does it handle any chemical contaminants? Also, ph based issues, like excessive alkalinity or acidity? Plus any smaller Biologics and elemental compounds like viruses or lead contamination. It may sound a bit much, but you’d be surprised how many ponds and even lakes that have fertiliser contamination or more common viral issues much smaller than any bacteria or pond scum there. And in certain other environments such as deserts, alkaline water can be deadly. Thank you for your reply, in advance. -CuriousMind
Love having this in my emergency supplies. I also love that you really drink the pond water. You are a real life example of how it works! I hope Battlbox is giving us another one, only the Pro version. A girl can never have too many ways to purify water, honestly.
the chemicals are reduced from the carbon filter. The chemicals were talking about is chlorine so the same in tap water, there's nothing to worry about.
I just collect rain whenever I need more water (not from the bird poopy roof) via a sheet of plastic into polybags. Then always boil it for half a minute. No probs except expensive electric.
Just found this. Think I'll add this to my preps. I was a Wilderness Guard for the Forest Service in the late 70's and contracted what I believe was Giardia. Very sick for days off the trail at over 7'000 feet. A system like this would have prevented that and looks to be easy to pack.
I'm all about water purification, have used different products several times. Going to have to get one of these and add it to my kit. Thanks for the review!
The 5 minute workout, I wonder if it would work attached to a pack while walking, maybe double the agitation time to 10 minutes. Being crazy bored for 5 minutes would be the only downside, but it’s a small sacrifice for that much potential clean water. I’ve definitely pumped water through a filter much longer than 5 minutes before. I like that it packs down to be pretty small & light for the amount of water you’ll have access to.
I'm the Chief Plant Operator of one the largest water agencies in Southern California, and novice hiker. The 99.99%, 99.9%, and 99% removal refers to a logarithmic removal of viruses, Giardia, and Cryptosporidium. The fact that the system coagulates, flocculates, disinfects, and filters pretty much guarantees that it will achieve said logarithm. If you smell chlorine in the bag, after the 30 minutes, or you test the chlorine residual from the unfiltered water, that water is safe to drink. Of course, it will not filter disinfection by-products, PFAS, pharmaceuticals, VOC's, etc.
If you've ever drank the water at Golden Corral, you've drank worse🤣 Thanks for risking your life to possibly save ours, great video, great product from a great company - BattlBox!
Thank you for such a clear and educational video. You have a great speaking manner. I appreciate you! Subscribing! And, sharing this video with family/friends.
This is interesting. I’m planning a thru hike of the Appalachian Trail in 2025. I currently have a few different types of filtration systems. I may have to try this one also to see what I like best.
I just received mine (without the Filter and Tubing Attachment) I plan to use it with fairly clear water (not muddy) with Aquatab, (after 30 min) I will let the water pass through the carbon filter I'll keep one of their P&G with me for bigger scenarios only
Yeah. I thought about that but problems I don’t have a dainty tea cup. Lol. But so glad someone noticed the pinky. I was of course trying to dig a people with it. lol
Appreciate the review. I’m still on the fence about drinking the water, but I should test it myself and really see. The additional filter is nice. Thanks for putting your life on the line for us. 😂
It's not about being scared. It's about understanding the possible risks in life and having a plan in place if one of those risks pops it's ugly head up. My only problem with this is that it's made by Procter and Gamble which is a company that is known for certain problems in safety. I worry that the chemical packet might have side effects that are not good for you.
I will say, the water came out of that filter straw a little fast. You usually have to suck on those filter straws really hard before water gets through.
This is why i stress to people TEST YOUR GEAR and make sure you have plenty of filters stocked up don't just buy something and let it sit. Its simple and easy to use but in a SHTF stressful situation last thing you want is to figure out how a system works.
I'm guessing, not too bad... probably on the level of eating a lot of pickled foods or salty for a very long period. It is probably likely less harmfull than say drinking a couple beers a day, for an extended period. My reasoning is that the chemical causing the coagulation/flockulation is often aluminium sulfate or iron (III) chloride, and both are very, very common chemicals used to treat water all across the world. In essence these chemicals are salts; in some aspects bit like table salt but in other aspects quite different. In low concentrations they are harmless, just as salt in low concentrations is no problem for the human body. Chlorine dioxide or bleach in low concentrations is also safe: in many large cities the tap water has a slight chlorine taste; you will find a similar taste with these packs. The goals of these chemicals is different: the coagulant removes particles from the water and clumps them together. It doesn't really kill a lot of stuff though; the chlorine or bleach does (after some time, say 30m). However, the best argument is this: without water, you will die in 3-4 days. With chemically treated water you will surely live longer than that. If you ever come into a true survival situation (a zombie apocalypse of course being the most likely and coolest, but a war being the more horrible one), your long term life expectency will immediately stop becomming a concern. Every day you will fight to survive (hence the name), and every day will suck. For camping meh, you could use it, but if you're just having fun anyway, and want to avoid any chemicals, you can just boil the water :). I hope you liked this answer; explore the science behind if you want, it's pretty cool stuff.
I'm late to the party... The technology is cool. The carbon filter is great. You did not talk about the shelf life of the packets, which is short according to other reviews of the product so this is not necessarily as good for long-term preparedness. But thank you for the review.
All the same people worried about secondary filtration or boiling are the same people who probably drink out of plastic containers letting all those chemicals soak into their water. Not saying I don't either but if they're truly concerned they wouldn't be looking for a temporary emergency filter to begin with, they clearly have a process in mind already. guaranteed some of them don't even know the difference between toxicity levels and biological contaminants. Boiling water doesn't remove toxins, and in some cases makes them convert into different chemical structures that can be less or more impactful to your body.
How comes the bag was cloudy as shit and the glass jar you had was clean as a whistle, then he socked the bag under the water took it out and then cut to holding it yet when he pulled the bag out the pond it was less filled then when they cut to him holding it...
What do you think about the new Puri Bag Pro?
It's an interesting concept, but I would still run the water through my Grayl to make sure I get all of the possible contaminants. I'll use a milbank bag and pre-filter the water that way to remove the debris first.
I like the pro upgrade. Like you said, gives you additional peace of mind! Def need to add the Puri Bag to my supplies!
Yep I'm going to have to get one now!
It would be great if I could test the bag, take a sample of water to the lab to put under the scope and also culture a drop to see if anything grows.

Probably better than some of the water I drank in the military!

100% correct. Not afraid of anything but I am prepared for everything.
How many of these chemicals remain in the drinking water? Are there any long term studies of how those chemicals effect the body?
the chemicals are reduced from the carbon filter. The chemicals were talking about is chlorine so the same in tap water, there's nothing to worry about.
“You might see some floaty bits” … “you don’t gotta worry about that” 😂😂
You absolutely do got to worry about that.
Surprisingly few people know about the basics of purifying water. These videos and filter products are great for when the tap runs dry.
When the tap water runs dry, I don't wanna be alive anymore
I just collect rain whenever I need more water (not from the bird poopy roof) via a sheet of plastic into polybags. Then always boil it for half a minute. No probs except expensive electric.
God I wanted to see puri bag properly tested so much . But there isn't any video on the internet . This video is a treat .
Great to see this in action.

Nice to see one being used. May get one now. Wasn’t to sure about them before.
I have this without the line filter upgrade. Not sure when I'll ever have a need to use it, but if and when I do need it, it's available.
I actually have the Pro system. It works amazingly well. I have used it for camping several times and never been sick or had any problems.
