      This is a Welsh Tradition dating back 100s of years. Back when it started most Welsh people were pagans and quite a few of us still are

      @@dasy2k1 yes or something very similar. These days depending on what region of Wales you live in the response is to either keep going back and forth until the Mari Lwyd party get bored and move on themselves or if you lose "the battle" due to running out of reasons why they shouldn't enter then you simply offer them some form of drink and possibly a little treat (commonly it my area it is mince pies) at which point they move on, they don't even enter your home anymore
