As I’ve said in your other Talkpod A36 vids, I like this radio and I’m hopeful the mfg addresses these issues. As soon as they do, I’ll get a couple of them.
Thanks for your objective review work!
Hopefully they address it with everyone who paid for one of these 👍
@@TheSmokinApe easy if it’s a firmware update, not so easy if it’s hardware!
Agreed.
Thank you Sir.
Thanks for watching Vern
The proof is in the puddin, or at least the scope trace. EXCELLENT analysis. 73 Ape 🎙
Thanks Hollywood 👍
The sinewave is dirty cause you turned it on before the antenna was plugged in...... 😀lol
Interesting video as usual.
That would explain it!
Hope they go back to the drawing board. You know its serious when you pull out the fancy scope. :)
Lol
I have this radio and use it only for GMRS, I get positive feed back from everyone I have talked to on the repeater I like to use. I'm curious on how this radio does test on the GMRS frequencies though, as I only see HAM being done.
Hey Robert, I only tested it for Ham as this model was sold as a ham model. That said, last night I did the same test on the GMRS frequencies and the carrier was just as messy.
@@TheSmokinApe Thank you for doing the test for me. Looks like I will need to get a better radio.
Definitely a lot of funky mixing going on in that oscillator/transmitter. Just a poor design is my guess. Great video Ape! 73
It’s a lot of something….
Maybe TalkPod fixed the issue, but I've seen several videos that show the TalkPod A36 is a GMRS radio out of the box. The manual is useless. You have to perform a reset to get this radio to be useful for VHF/UHF ham operations. Too many issues for me.
The claim to sell a ham and a gmrs version, this was sent to me as a ham radio.
Talking dirty and slurring speech, LOL. Thanks for another one, Ape.
Lol, thanks Mike 👍

you can use it on 220 band as well
Yeah, probably 👍
Where would we be without the Ape's "engineering analysis" vids? Probably in deep "doo-doo" using good money to buy problem/illegal/poor performance products!!! Once again, great work, Ape. TU...TU...TU
Thanks for checking out the video 👍
I had no plans to get one but I still wanted this radio to transmit within the legal limits here in the USA. A real shame.
It is a shame, could have been a nice radio 👍
What component inside the radio is most likely the root cause of the spurious tx? Do you think its a factor of using substandard parts or an engineering flaw?
More likely a lack of parts to add BP filtering.
@@Hank_W6IR I suspect the programmable master oscillator is at fault. It's not like the old days of using real crystals and harmonics. I'd bet that the rig is not using an oscillator made by Analog Devices. LOL
It’s suspect the oscillator as well 👍
That output signal looks pretty nasty! Strike 2.
Right
i bought one just for airband rx...i made a mistake??? (i don't intend to tx through this, until for now and till wwiii!!!)
I’m not going to say it was a mistake but I’m not a fan of these radios
@@TheSmokinApe you mean cheap radios or especially talkpod?
@@yannisgk the Talkpod
Yikes!
That’s what I said 😮
I'm not impressed by the results of your tests. Someone new to the hobby or just casually involved is most likely going to lack the equipment and skill to test any radio they purchase like this. If it doesn't sound great they will probably buy a better antenna for it. In this case that would be putting lipstick on a pig.
I don’t know what’s worse; not checking it or checking and saying “that’s fine”
Bro... that's ugly!
Yes it is 😳
Meow! DO NOT BUY!!!!
Pretty much, thanks for watching 👍
