The colours are those because you can mix to make any color you want. That's why it's blue, yellow and red and cyan, magenta, and yellow. That way m regardless of which scheme you believe are the _true_ primary colors.
@brittany6910 I thought the same exact thing. I thought it looked more normal at one point but idk. Maybe they did a deeper yellow because they had that other yellow but why they didn't use the same containers for all the paint, I have no idea.
It's actually a good thing if advent calenders aren't fully Christmas themed. It means the products can be used all year round instead of just in December
As someone who does a lot of mixed media journaling/scrapbooking, I am in love with this box...this is right up my alley and the price for all the various mixed medias is actually pretty decent...one of my fave indie scrapbooking/journaling/agenda brands brings out a yearly advent calender and it runs 120$ canadian so this one is pretty on par...either way I love this calendar (my fave of the two youve done so far), but I agree this is def nade for an audience that prefers utilizing mixed medias over someone who has a lane and prefers to not step outside their comfort zone...
i DO mix media too and I wouldn't pay $90 for 2 glue dot and cardboard and 1 stamp + ink. Those $120 have HQ paper and sticker and stamp etc. It not a fair comparison at all. Even add in a few marker and paint and I still don;t see it being worth $90. Also for sdvent calemdar you aren't suppose to break even but get way more value then you spend. So it not even worth the value you spend so this box is not worth it.
I wouldn't say it is about having a lane and preferring not to step outside the comfort zone - the problem here is, it's not like you can do any scrapbooking project just with this calendar. Even if you wanted to "step outside the comfort zone" and try the craft, you have to go get more supplies. Otherwise you are just left with a couple random useless items. I think scrapbooking is a bit too specific of a craft to include scrapbooking-only items in a general art calendar. It's like if there was a random tiny mold for UV resin, but no resin included.
8:39 Don't know if you will see this Chloe but I thought you should know. Recently in their Halloween bundle Grabie did give AI art in their scrapbook bundle. Other people have been disappointed in this and have stepped away from buying from them. They recognize it's an affordable option for paint in comparison to other brands but not good rep. Hope you see this so you're more aware ❤ (Also loved the holly)
@ChloeRoseArt It was on TT I first in encounter (seen it on other platforms too) it from Whiskey Rabbit saying they got a lot of comments saying the new art was AI. Randomly they got the user Wacomelon who was the first reviewed the box pointing this out. [After more research] I want to point out that since October 16th has come out and apologized and said they worked with a 3rd party vendor who were the ones providing the stickers and have since stopped working with them. I have seen other complain about AI in the past but I can't find those videos anymore. They have clarified saying they only use it for polisy product description in the past but nothing more. Hopefully this hold true as they have shown their artists working on their products.
I agree, because I don't want to use holiday themed things past the holiday. It's why I wouldn't gift people ornaments or Christmas themed things on Christmas lol
Not weird at all. I make Christmas cards. I use my stamps, dies, stickers and punches in late November to early December to be able to make and get my Christmas cards out in time. Why would I want a Christmas themed stamp or die etc on December 23rd?
Also some people don't celebrate christmas but just like an advent calender (they don't have to be xmas I've seen halloween ones. I made a yule advent for a friend)
I saw someone else open this but she didn't say the price and I thought it was nice, except for the paper items. I am shocked at the price; it is totally not worth it. I do like Grabie watercolors; I haven't tried their other products yet. Your artwork came out nice, and the splatters on the first one gave it a watercolor effect, lol.
Personally this is perfect for me because I will also use all the boxes. Grabbie is very much a scrapbook/art journal type of company so all of these products are on point
I would agree but i think they coudlve put stickers, craft papers, etc. The ordaments and repetitive scrapbooks kinda remind me of mcdonalds lol. Its strange not to put a journal you can scrapbook in
This box seems like they blindfolded a member of staff put them in front of a table and told them to pick items! Having mini items is why I avoid lots of these calenders as I have large hands!
I agree that they should've separated things out and had different calendars - a scrapbook, a watercolor and acrylics? I always hated oil pastels but I used a canvas and my mind was blown - sennelier ones are the ones I default to - they're gorgeous. I love the watercolor calendars like the one you unboxed last year - making them for everyone this year and I want to scream right now.
I hope you read my comment, Chloe :) I also didn't love pastels until I learned a very cool and fun technique. I take a piece of plastic and I rub some pastel colors on it, then I take a paint brush with paint solvent (I use one for oil paint) and I pick the color off the plastic with it, and paint it on the paper. Pastels layer amazingly like this. Also, you can paint the color onto the paper, then go over it with a brush with solvent. The colors are vibrant, the color becomes smooth and you can perfect things with pencils after that. These 2 techniques changed my mind about oil pastels and I have a few amazing works completed, including one very detailed cat portrait.
I feel like Steph from doodle date would definitely have fun with this calendar. Got a bit of everything I know she likes a mini doodles and posticks, washie tape and she would love the little glue pen!! Only thing is it’s not worth it at that price :((
Hullo Chloe, Thank you for sharing this Advent Calendar opening with us. I truly dislike oil pastels, but I love soft pastels! When you want a sharp edge or a fine line? You gotta break the stick and use the edge! Yep, I totally missed the Amazon code, never even saw it! I have purchased an Advent Calendar for the first time in years, over 15 years in fact! I just felt that my wife is gonna love it as it is Gilmore Girls themed! We watched the show as it was broadcast and I purchased each season as it was released! I will say that we watch it every other year! It is still our favorite show period! Well Chloe, I am still hoping that you will find a calendar that will be worth the money and not so expensive that you must be a pen aficionado! I am still watching your videos and believing that your gonna accomplish great things in your career.
You should look into art journaling, it's so much fun and might be something you'd like to try! I love it and I think that this advent calendar would be good for art journalist. If you don't know much about art journaling, Art snacks has a art journal subscription box that's fantastic and videos that are great. ❤ Also love your videos!!!!
I don’t understand how some people like random art supplies however I am too much of a control freak. I want to have exactly what I want. So while I think items like this or subscription boxes are a neat idea. I would personally not really care to buy them myself. But I do enjoy watching them.
If you like painting LARGE, look at Deep Space Sparkle's "painted paper". Basically covering large sheets of paper with tempera paint in simple/random patterns. It's great for Eric Carle style collages. I had one kindergarten class make some, then made some myself. SO messy, but so beautiful. I told students not to spatter paint, but I did, and got paint on my paints, as my smock was unbuttoned at the bottom.
I love the dot pens bc I would use them. However, agree with you about the value of the calendar. Had it been 50, i would think differently, but 90 is not worth all the paper ornaments, mini sketchbooks, and sticky notes.
Chloe, can I just tell you... You have the best annoyed personality. 😂❤ It's a LOL moment when I hear you getting frustrated. Idk if it's your accent or what, but it's just the best. Please don't be discouraged by that. What I really mean is I am having a super annoyed day today, and watching this video makes me so happy. It's like having a friend who's annoyed about something, and you can be like UGH! ME TOO!
I've looked at Grabie's website before and have always felt their products were overpriced. I really liked the magnetic mini canvases. That's a cool idea.
For watercolors, try watercolor resist. Use ordinary wax crayon or your hated oil pastels to 1. color areas you want to leave unpainted and 2. draw outline fences to paint inside. The watercolor will not stick where the pastel/crayon is, so you can do snowflakes with a white crayon. Paint will stay inside the outlines and not bleed out of them. If you want sharper pastel lines, peel back the paper, and color with alternating sides to "sharpen" the end of the pastel.
I was wrong, there is a popular watercolor Advent calendar on Etsy, but it's not from the creator I can personally vouch for... Is still live if you could get one and show it to us. It had Grogu on the cover of the calendar.
3 hrs after I bought this exact advent calendar you released this video... and I already have regrets. I have to watch closer so I know which bits not to open and to immediately pass onto my sister for lucky dip items at her fund raising nights for our local nursery.
I am so glad you did this - I had considered a Grabie advent calendar but I don’t get their choices and I would have been disappointed- thanks for saving me some money lol 😂
Love this video, it's making me feel really happy about my choice in getting myself 24 little gifts for my advent calendar this year (I couldn't find a single advent calender that seemed decent and that I could afford)
Chloe, I only recently got back into art RUclips but you should do Diamine’s Inkvent Calendar! I’ve done it two years in a row now and I absolutely love it. I like to use inks as something similar to watercolors ☺️ for anyone debating it I think a review would be good (I absolutely adore it but it’s a lot of money for some people)
Watercolor should mostly be transparent to semi opaque. Opaque watercolors are gouache which are used differently . Oil pastels are nice, they look nice and pigmented. Easier to get clean edges on smooth paper without a grain. I like to blend them with a brush and odorless spirits. That way the edges stay neat.🎉
8:41 perhaps you should challenge yourself and try using it. I can see those dots being super useful in a multimedia project and layering for 3D effects. Broaden your mind!!
Speaking to the weird colors of paints, I believe they are for mixing colors, that's why there is a yellow color, a red/magenta color, and a blue/cyan color. But I agree, not worth $90 for this box to me.
@ChloeRoseArt Totally. Especially for the age range this seems to be geared towards...color mixing is hard if you're not super experienced! I would have a really rough time with only primaries.
@@CassiaDee For me personally I would absolutely have the same wtf reaction. It definitely feels geared to beginners like me, yet it doesn't feel beginner friendly.
@@gilded_lady Honestly, so would I. If I bought an art kit that made me mix colors I would probably feel like crying! I was just trying to think why they'd add those colors and I realized it was probably for color mixing. But seriously, what beginner knows how to color mix? I know I don't!
Photopolymer stamps are the best quality for clear stamps. They provide clear, crisp stamped images, after priming the stamps with ink and stamping off a few times. Shame they didn’t have any type of sentiments in them. You gently pounce the ink pads onto your stamps (they look to be foam padded, so be gentle). The dot runner is handy for tacking bits onto bits. This box is kinda all over the place and I don’t see the value here. 🤷🏼♀️ TFS! ❤
You stick the stamps to the acrylic block they gave you that goes with it. When they stop sticking, you just clean the back of the stamps or the acrylic block with alcohol or an alcohol mixture. I can't remember which for either which one you clean or if you use pure alcohol vs a water-alcohol mixture, but there are instructions online.
Chole It makes my day and feels like a relief when you do the advent calanders then I get glad if I missed out because of the contents being worth it or not😊❤Thank you so much for doing as much of these as possible
You should try doing diamond art in one of your videos, and it would be fantastic if you. I would love it if you collaborated with Mira Byler and made a video where you guys tried doing art in each other's styles. Also, I love your Christmas decorations.
I've seen videos from this channel called Art Room and they use a paper towel that they fold into a small triangle and they use to blend the oil pastels.
The "not holiday colors" are primary colors and can be used to mix any color. Also you can use the dot runners for anything, they're basically double sided tape. Everyone sticks things together. Also the paint pens might be splashing because you might be pressing too hard and reactivating the pen.
It's such a shame that that's the way it works, first come first serve I guess. But it could also be the same person getting it over and over and over. That's a shame that none of us are ever going to have a crack at it because we work and don't get to see the videos until later. 🤷🏻♀️💔🇨🇦
Similar to how Mia Maples does giveaways, Chloe should be doing this via Google Forms instead and randomise the winner. A bot could easily grab the codes from these videos
@@ChloeRoseArt Tbh I'd watch out for adding those, I bet there are a lot of people either skimming through to find it instantly or even people who have made something to scan for those kinda codes in videos.
I actually really love those dot runners (not the exact brand tho, I’ve always gotten the plus norino glue tape ones) I don’t do scrapbooking but I use them for anything that requires glue or double sided tape since it’s so much easier and less messy than liquid glue I used to run out of them so quickly when I was in school and all of my friends borrowed mine 😂
You should TRY the dot runners. A nice way to apply adhesive for things BESIDES scrapbooking--neat little bit in one spot, and should hold well. DISCLAIMER: I've used TAPERUNNERS, not dot runners. I use them to make envelopes, and for other collage or glue projects.
The dot water pens may actually be the dock runners might be colored and therefore you might be able to put them not just to stick them on the back of something but to put them on the front to put little dots on the front.
I took A-level art at Sixth Form and even though I wanted to try working in oils, the teacher made me use watercolours instead. I never quite got over it, but I do have loads of watercolour supplies now!
With all do respect on the website it doesn't say it's an "art" calendar... I'd say it's more and craft calendar. But with that said, I agree I don't think it's worth what they charge for it.
Grabie as a whole is an art and craft supply company though so I presumed it would be mostly their art supplies since that’s what they seem to sell most (plus their website is GrabieArt.com) so I just assumed it would be art based like their boxes/have some sort of theme! I think it would be cool if they separated it all next time 🙌
I agree with your opinions mostly however I love that there's not only additional holiday colors I get sick of all the reds greens and golds and silvers. It's nice to have other colors. But in general I agree there's no way this is worth. And I get really tired of little surfaces too. They can easily slip a full size pad behind the little boxes in that box and you can pull out a full day one pad a mixed media paper. And on the other side they could have a pad of watercolor paper. And that would give it its value as well even if they only had 10 sheets each.
I wonder if with the Blue Dot runner thing if one is permanent and one is temporary? Has the watercolor artist I could certainly make Christmas gift cards with those. I could Mount the watercolor on a card and then they could pull it off and frame it.
I think this is more of a crafts calendar, than art supplies calendar. Overall, I do like the calendar, but think it’s definitely overpriced. I love the two mini sketch books and the watercolour pan. The glue dot runners are good for card making, scrapbooking, and junk journalling.
would like to see you do a collaboration video with an oil paint artist where they show you how to have fun and success with oil pastels (cos id like to know too!).
I think this one is probably a little expensive for what you get. I think people would get much better value just buying the things they want, especially with the sales starting soon. This box has too many things that are just 'blah' and not things you would actually want. Maybe if it was $20 you would be happy with paper ornaments. You said Mira does incredible things with oil pastel, but she hates pastels. She has mentioned that it is a sensory thing for her and she avoids using them.
I love advents for the surprises inside but it’s definitely always a risk. You don’t always get your moneys worth and you’d always be better off buying them yourself but the experience as a whole adds value! I think brands should really try to make you feel like it was at least money well spent though. Mira doesn’t hate the Posca wax pastels or the more expensive ones she bought from Norway! Like myself it’s the cheap messy ones she doesn’t like 🤢 she does a beautiful job every time she has used them!
On your next video can you pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee do me one of your subscribers that has been watching you from almost your first video 😅… can you do a close up of your giant Xmas lights hanging in the back of you? Did you make them? Do they really light up? It is hard to tell in your videos they are blurry😢but so pretty❤ thanks so much!!!!!!
What you have to do with fine acrylic paint brush markers is you have to go very lightly not heavy-handed but if you're going to use something and you're not sure how your hands are working like like I said me you would probably prefer the brush markers in my case I can handle those fine tip markers because I've learned that because my hands don't work well I have to be much lighter when I touch paper or what not with such pens, and it's because I can't feel what I'm doing the actions that my hands are doing.
Do the tiny coloring book pages fit the size of the canvas magnets? If so that would be cool...you could stick the page to the canvas or carbon copy it on to the canvas.
Me, seeing the paper “ornaments”: 🧐those are literal trash 🤨 Love the watercolor tin though! Very cute. I'd pay maybe $35...ish for it? I wouldn't use SO much of it. The sticky notes are cute but not very useful. Definitely agree it's geared towards younger/scrapbookers.
I think this advent calendar has an audience, but I do think it's overpriced considering the craft theme and the duplicate items. There are also a lot of missed opportunities with this box; the cardboard ornaments and letters should have been blank so the recipient can paint/color them. The mini sketch pad books are so tiny that they're probably more useful as swatches for testing. All five of those paints could have fit in one box. And like you said, it's really lacking a full size coloring book to put all the different tools to use together, although those are definitely cheap enough to buy separately. It's a cute gift idea for someone who has young kids tho
The colours are those because you can mix to make any color you want. That's why it's blue, yellow and red and cyan, magenta, and yellow. That way m regardless of which scheme you believe are the _true_ primary colors.
The yellow looked kind of off to me, like almost more of a tan, but it could be the lighting.

Speaking to the weird colors of paints, I believe they are for mixing colors, that's why there is a yellow color, a red/magenta color, and a blue/cyan color. But I agree, not worth $90 for this box to me.
For sure! I just think it’s nice to have premixed colors in here to make it a little more fun 🤣
🤷🏼♀️ TFS! ❤
Already loving the spicy attitude
YESS THE CALENDARSS
This is actually so cool
Watched someone open the Arteza illustration advent calendar and it was really nicely done. Excited to see you open the other two.
You know It’s finally Christmas when Chloe puts out an advent calendar vid!!!🎉
we love your profile haha
I’d be very disappointed in that calendar. Too much cardboard junk, doubles of things you don’t need doubles of. It’s kind of sad.
I love these series. And omg, you could be a comedian
❤Gina
4:48 it’s primary colours witch I love
loving the advent calendar vids
I just watched someone else open this one the other day, oh boy!
Rose requin crafts? Yes
@sunnymeowcat yup yup!
The "not holiday colors" are primary colors and can be used to mix any color.
Also you can use the dot runners for anything, they're basically double sided tape. Everyone sticks things together.
Also the paint pens might be splashing because you might be pressing too hard and reactivating the pen.
love your advent calendar videos!
Dang, a minute later and the Amazon code is claimed
🥴 that’s crazy!! I’ll have a lot more videos going up this month and next so keep your eyes peeled ☺️
It's such a shame that that's the way it works, first come first serve I guess. But it could also be the same person getting it over and over and over. That's a shame that none of us are ever going to have a crack at it because we work and don't get to see the videos until later. 🤷🏻♀️💔🇨🇦
@@AngelaJeanBarr Boohoo, just because someone got the code quick doesn't mean they don't work lol. There's a world outside of the US
Similar to how Mia Maples does giveaways, Chloe should be doing this via Google Forms instead and randomise the winner. A bot could easily grab the codes from these videos
@@ChloeRoseArt Tbh I'd watch out for adding those, I bet there are a lot of people either skimming through to find it instantly or even people who have made something to scan for those kinda codes in videos.
I actually really love those dot runners (not the exact brand tho, I’ve always gotten the plus norino glue tape ones)
I don’t do scrapbooking but I use them for anything that requires glue or double sided tape since it’s so much easier and less messy than liquid glue
I used to run out of them so quickly when I was in school and all of my friends borrowed mine 😂
Wow this art advent calendar is absolutely amazing 💓
You should TRY the dot runners. A nice way to apply adhesive for things BESIDES scrapbooking--neat little bit in one spot, and should hold well. DISCLAIMER: I've used TAPERUNNERS, not dot runners. I use them to make envelopes, and for other collage or glue projects.
Time for Chloe to make her own advent calendars 😁
The letters are stickers. I saw someone else open this the other day and read the back of the boxes after opening each.
Of course the one box I didn’t read 🤣 they don’t feel or look like stickers at all! That’s good to know though
That advent calendar ABSOLUTELY is not worth the cost, and I thought I was missing out 😳
The dot water pens may actually be the dock runners might be colored and therefore you might be able to put them not just to stick them on the back of something but to put them on the front to put little dots on the front.
I think it would be cool if they separated it all next time 🙌
Yay 2 lots of oil pastels ( sarcasm) also my pet hate art supply lol. Feels like a craft calendar more than an art one honestly
I like the washi tapes and the watercolors and that's it.
I wonder if with the Blue Dot runner thing if one is permanent and one is temporary? Has the watercolor artist I could certainly make Christmas gift cards with those. I could Mount the watercolor on a card and then they could pull it off and frame it.
I feel like everything in that box would be good for "Junk Journaling". Because that uses both art supplies and scrap booking supplies.
The stamps are usually use for homemade cardmaking ❤✉
I'll be honest, the dot runner would be helpful for mounting and framing artwork!
I think this is more of a crafts calendar, than art supplies calendar. Overall, I do like the calendar, but think it’s definitely overpriced.
I love the two mini sketch books and the watercolour pan. The glue dot runners are good for card making, scrapbooking, and junk journalling.
At least half the things here are Generic Alibaba stuff that can be ordered in bulk for cents with a logo on them.
would like to see you do a collaboration video with an oil paint artist where they show you how to have fun and success with oil pastels (cos id like to know too!).
@ChloeRoseArt I agree she does ❤️
On your next video can you pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee do me one of your subscribers that has been watching you from almost your first video 😅… can you do a close up of your giant Xmas lights hanging in the back of you? Did you make them? Do they really light up? It is hard to tell in your videos they are blurry😢but so pretty❤ thanks so much!!!!!!
Man I love your advent calendar reviews. You have such a funny reaction when you don't like the item hahahaha. KEEP IT UP!
I wouldn't even pay $20 for this lmao
What you have to do with fine acrylic paint brush markers is you have to go very lightly not heavy-handed but if you're going to use something and you're not sure how your hands are working like like I said me you would probably prefer the brush markers in my case I can handle those fine tip markers because I've learned that because my hands don't work well I have to be much lighter when I touch paper or what not with such pens, and it's because I can't feel what I'm doing the actions that my hands are doing.
this box seems well geared for bullet journaling!
Do the tiny coloring book pages fit the size of the canvas magnets? If so that would be cool...you could stick the page to the canvas or carbon copy it on to the canvas.
I LOVE this box, I think its better then the Artiza advent calendar ( i feel like the Artiza one have to little stuf in them.)
You can totally make a video of tracking down all those supplies on Temu, Wish, etc. And see how much it'll cost to assamble.
The adhesive doting thing doesn't have to be used for what it says. It's just a glue dotting thing so can be used to glue anything
Me, seeing the paper “ornaments”: 🧐those are literal trash 🤨
Love the watercolor tin though! Very cute. I'd pay maybe $35...ish for it? I wouldn't use SO much of it. The sticky notes are cute but not very useful. Definitely agree it's geared towards younger/scrapbookers.
Probably can use the dot runner and ornaments for mixed media art
They need to make a 'fine arts' advent calendar. Then I would consider one.
Your art was the best part!
I like to use oil pastels with a brush and veggie oil!
