    This method is fine if your existing plates are straight! Also, I put some insulating tape on back of new plates where holes will be drilled, just to stop backing being chewed up. Who knows, might stop water getting into them for a bit longer 👍🏻

    Lovely, straight to the point - waffle free - cheers.

    Just to add that the original holes may be loose for the original screws once they have been taken out, and slightly bigger screws may be necessary when fitting the new plates. I had this problem. Also, it is not a bad idea to attach two sticky pads as well, just for added security and peace of mind.

    Where do you get the black/white/yellow caps to blend the screws in with the plate please?

      Most number plate screw sets include them alongside the screws themselves

    Noticed the screwcap was black on the way off and white as it went back on. What if you don't have a magic wand to change it?

    what if your number plate is stolen and you don't have the old plate to use as a template? do all cars have the holes in the same place? is it unified?

    • @NumberplateExpert
      @NumberplateExpert  8 лет назад +7

      Unfortunately there is no standardisation. If there was, we'd supply our plates with pre-drilled holes. It's annoying I know!
      In your circumstance, you have 3 options:
      1) Using a ruler, measure the distance between the screw holes on your car and manually plot the holes at the correct positions on your new plates. (Make sure you measure the distance between the front and rear screw holes separately because, even more annoyingly, some car models even differ on either side!)
      2) Find a friend with the same model car and follow the instructions as per the video.
      3) Use high-durability sticky pads. You'd be surprised how effective they are! (See this video for more info: ruclips.net/video/7nxVJvNHpxI/видео.html )
      Good luck!

      I got a number plate holder but the behind of the holder it has holes. So i checked it against the car. And then put it over the number plate and mark where i need to drill. Making sure its straight and how low or high i want the number plate to be fitted

    NO no no no no!!!!
    Never transfer old holes to new item without first fixing old item to new item (the same way around!) so that it can't move.
    THEN!! After drilling first hole nice and square in a drill press not freehand like this bodger, put a bolt through the holes BEFORE drilling the second hole.
