My dad passed away 12 years ago and we had this played at this funeral. He was ex-RAF. Think about him a lot and his love for all the services. Thanks to all those who have and are serving to keep us safe!
I did too I love in Winchester when I was young the greenjackets were really celebrated in the city I used to go peninsula barracks before it .moved to sor John Moore and the bugler played from on the roof this and last post with a single flood light on him I'm 55 now still feel the emotion
I heard this wonderful music at a school summer fete. This was in the 80s, never forgotten it. Thanks to all our servicemen and servicewomen for their service.
sittin' here with tears in my eyes....in memory of me Dad who was in the DLIs..1941 - 47. He died 2 years ago now but this marvellous tune just evoked warm memories of him. Beautiful. Thank You for posting
The first time I heard this tune was at the Royal Tournament at Earls Court many years ago. I heard it again yesterday, played by the Royal Marines at the beating retreat ceremony at Bournemouth Air Festival. This and Sunset are my two absolute favourite pieces of military band music. Both make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, They make me so proud of our armed forces.
1st time I heard this was at the Colchester Tatoo in 1982, I was in 1 Sqn RCT at the time and volunteered to help out at the Tatoo, where I helped carry out the kettle drums, then they played this. Still sends a shiver down my spine. Fantastic!
It was done at RT with a choir as it was the night our wonderful Queen Mum came. I played at C House when she lived there and was proud to have met her.
Mr brother Robert Scouse Williams was percussionist in 2RGJ and played on the original recording of this, he will be turning in his grave at this abominable performance. RIP Robbie💖
This arrangement is not great. The original Light Division one is way better and much more emotional than this. I was in 2RGJ and the Corunna band. People should and listen to the real thing; this isn’t it.

Did you know my brother Robbie Williams, percussionist 2RGJ 1978 to 1982, he played on original recording, I still have the album he passed away 2014😔
Yeah, the Massed Bands and Bugles of the Light Division version is a bit ragged round the edges but hits a spot that no other version quite gets.
don't need the vocals..
