There are many changes in my garden so I am focusing on birds, pollinators and mason bees as well. My English Mastiff dog "Rosie" and my chickens make an appearance in this video. Garden Happy is a creative garden featuring thrift store treasures, whimsical garden charm, garden decor and creative gardening ideas for inspiration.

    That's a great idea Liz - extending your tomato cages, who knew:). We've had a lot of storm damage and over 12 inches of rain but it also revived some of my herbs so tomorrow morning I'm harvesting three kinds of basil, lemon verbena, and lemon balm. The only veggie still producing is one pepper plant and the garlic chives, but at least my bananas survived and we harvested a ton of elderberries before the storm. Your dahlia is indeed a beauty. Gardens are always changing, it will be fun to see what you decide to do with those three beds. We had to take out a huge Java Plum tree, so I find myself with a lot less shade and less privacy. But, it will give me new gardening opportunities next spring. Zinnias and Dahlias are all done and so is a big part of the garden. We haven't even cleared out all of the storm damage yet - sigh, mostly because I can't deal with it any more. Anyway, thanks for another inspiring garden tour and a glimpse of the pup and fabulous rooster. Happy Gardening to you!

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  22 дня назад +1

      Hi Rose, thank you for taking the time to comment. I’m so sorry about all that storm damage you had but glad to know you are seeing it as an opportunity to create something new. I think it’s so awesome that you can grow bananas. Thank you for your compliment about my dahlia however, I’m learning that dahlias grow better in the shade in my garden zone nine. Next year I’ll be ready to grow them properly. This year, the sun just fried them and they did not do very well, except for the one picture that you probably saw on my video. That’s too bad You had to take out your plum tree and now you are without as much shade but so many things grow well in the sun so I guess it’s all a trade-off right? When is the Garden ever really finished right? Always changes all with something new to do and recover from. I always enjoy reading your messages. Thank you again Rose for taking the time to visit me. Happy gardening to you!!! ❤️👍🥰🌸🌼Liz

    Beautiful tour! Thank you. You grow so many of my favorite flowers. Wow, yours are so lush and happy. Vinca and lantana are some of my favorites because they withstand the high heat here (zone 9b, Tucson, AZ). Two other flowers my hummingbirds and bees love are the Mexican Petunia and Black Eyed Susan vine. Both can become a little pesky because they self seed and spread easily but are so beautiful and easy to remove if necessary. I'm in the same boat when it comes to zucchini, the heat causes them to drop their fruit. It starts to develop then fails. I'm pleasantly surprised with results with small melons: Sugar Baby watermelon and cantaloup. They are doing well this year. I'm trying a new Okra seed: Nkkruma Tenten from Baker Creek. They have a lovely pinkish blossom I'm told. Thanks again, loved the visit.

Since you garden in Tucson you have your challenges I'm sure. But I agree with you about the black eyed susans. They are BEAUTIFUL!!! Please do a google search, it might interest you. And I would LOVE to send you seeds for next year if you want : ) That new Okra you are growing sounds beautiful. It's all so beautiful! 😍🥰😍
    I love your bee house and keeping it covered to keep birds out. Wild bee houses are on my bucket list and I never would have thought about them being exposed to birds, if you hadn't mentioned it. Earlier this spring, I finally got a bat house put up. I haven't seen any bats, yet, but we had some around a few years back, so I'm hopeful! I've had three honey bee colonies collapse, so I didn't even try for them this spring, but we have plenty of wild bees that I want to keep around.
    Do you have to do a lot of work on keeping your hummingbird feeders sanitized? I bought a little feeder that is supposed to be for your hand, but then a friend reminded me about needing to sanitize them, so I quit trying to attract them.
    Love getting to see your critters!

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  2 года назад +3

      Hello Denise that is so awesome that you cater to bats! Wow. . . how fun and interesting. I don't "sanitize" my feeders. . . but I do clean them out with soap and water every time I change their nectar. I just use a bottle brush to get the job done. I know some people boil the water and bottles. . . that's just too much work for me and in my opinion unnecessary. But to each his/her own. Cleaning them out with soapy water is easy and quick. Thank you for watching my video Denise. . . I appreciate your kind words and encouragement : )

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  Год назад +2

      Hey there Happy Friday! No I do not replace soil in pots. Sometimes i will mix a little compost in with it but I never replace it all together! Its just too expensive! Alot of times i will mix a new bag on potting soil in with my native soil to stretch it out. A big bag on compost at the big box stores is only $5.00 where as a bag of potting soil is $18.00. So if I don’t have any of my own compost available I will buy a bag of compost and mix it in with the used soul in my pots just to freshen it up. Hope that helps! 👍🌸❤️ Liz

    May I ask, how do you preserve your door from the elements???

    • @GardenHappy
      @GardenHappy  2 года назад +2

      Hey there! I tried brushing on urrathane but that only made the paint worse. After a year the urrathane shrunk and made the paint peel. Plus it turned my projects a dingy yellow. So I stopped using a special weather coat. I just rely on the paint I use. I figured if paint was OK to be on the outside of a house then why wouldn't that be ok on a door. So my answer to your question is. . .I don't use anything special other than the paint. Every few years or so I just repaint. Thank you for reaching out to me. - Liz
