Well it wasn't really a bad design lore wise I mean it was actually quite comparable incapable but yeah I understand what you mean I think this design would have been better off without the backpack system and just have been a unit for commanders probably would have been better off for it
My main issue with the Re-GZ is its single use BWS. Like why bother with the heavily armed waverider mode if you're just going to throw it away in Mobile suit Mode. I would be fine with the Single-use transformation of the Re-GZ if it could still use its BWS like a support unit like the justices from SEED. It's needlessly wasteful and expensive for a mass production Zeta-type MS imo.
@@dexexmachinatu4151 as mentioned in-story, cost issues. But for the record, I'm with you with that sentiment and as we can see in later stories like Unicorn onwards, the Zeta's transformation concept gets refined further past the Re-GZ and into functionally better mass-produced transforming MS designs. On the other hand, props to Build Fighters Try for taking the Re-GZ design up to the next level.
Question is why didn't they just give the Re-GZ more thrusters and an extra weapon (a rifle or a bazooka) instead of the BWS, I mean amuro did well without the BWS, he even nearly kill gyunei with just Re-GZ beam rifle.
@@vailyzero1001 looks like the Feddies were still trying to go for a mobile-armor-like mode to help with transportation purposes. In a meta-sense, transformable mechs were still the rage at the time CCA was made and its UC-Gundam's attempt to still cash-in on it without going through the additional expenses of animating a transforming suit.
I know this may be late, but here is a fun fact: If you already know this, In the Beltorchika's Children novel(?) and manga, The Re GZ doesn't get destroyed by Hathaway, and Chan Agi is not the pilot of the mobile suit, but Beltorchika. The reason why the Re GZ wasn't destroyed by Hathaway was because during the Battle of the Hi Nu Gundam and the Nightingale, the mobile armor Quess pilots interferes the battle, which results to Hathaway and the Jegan shooting the mobile armor on the head, killing Quess and destroying the mobile suit. Before that battle, while the Hi Nu was destroying the thrusters of the Axis, a Geara Doga was about to fight it. Until Beltorchika and the Re GZ just interfere, and bump the Geara Doga away, knocking Beltorchika unconscious. On the final chapter, the Re GZ would be retrieved with a Jegan who noticed it.
enjoyed fielding the ReGZ with the BWS in the 4th SRW as the BWS acted like a fuil-armor system providing increased mobility, weapons and upon depleting the HP would automatically turn into MS mode (or can also be manually transformed to MS mode without an option to go back to MA Mode. Wished more time was spent to improve this system to the point where it can be controlled like a large BIT type weaponry while the MS part engaged in medium to close range combat. ReGZ Custom is also a good alternative, integrating the BWS into the MS so it can perform a simplified transformation but IIRC the cost for it was too much preventing it from being developed. This also came with an oddly designed beam rifle similar to an AK-47
I really love the re-gz but I still think not making it a fully transformable and only rely to jet mode parts to be a functioning mobile armor mode is still stupid.. When you yeet it you can take it back lol
Well, it goes to show that even by relying only on external parts for it’s limited transformations, it is still deemed too expensive to manufacture and considered a failure because of that.
The Re-Gz’s design is so slick but subdued. It might not have been Zeta, but I think it was kinda influential in its own way, I remember a lot of mecha from the 80s and early 90s from both anime and games that seem to have taken design cues from it, especially the “bunny ear” antennae. It’s just a neat design. The MS mode seems quite strong on its own, I always wondered why they wouldn’t have made a limited production run of Re-Gz’s as command units since they have near Gundam type level performance in general but also already share some parts with Jegans which seems like it’d ease maintenance. Maybe the federation is just that cheap. The BWS would be cool if it were a platform that could redock with the Re-Gz, maybe even have its own pilot or be controllable remotely with AI or something like a drone to give the main MS unit some fire support, docking together only for the purpose of transportation. Otherwise it just seems like such a waste of material that it defeats the purpose of it being a more cost effective alternative to transformable Zetas. Despite that though, I do even still kind of love the BWS despite how wonky it’s whole concept is. Maybe that’s part of its charm, being an obviously botched concept.
Lol it’s really silly the more you think about it. If it could redock or the BWS could double as a drone like fire support for the MS when separated if kind of get it, but disposing if the whole unit seems like a ludicrously counter productive waste. Obviously I think it’s the designers in real life just wanting to do the idea, whatever flimsy excuse they could come up with it takes to justify it.
Typical Anaheim designers overthinking an already good MS. The BWS is a joke. How come the Delta Plus and ReZel (the Re-Gz was further developed into the Re-Gz custom which transformed and ReZel) can transform? Anaheim has severe bias i assume
I suspect the story purposefully added bws so that it gives v gundam some screentime to shine because if it's perfectly reflects Zeta's capability, it will have so much screentimes when Amuro pilots it because it will be powerful as heck. It could even halt Sazabi for long time. Or maybe I was too overestimating it.
Well, considering in both times it was used. 1st it was flying away from the battle (or armuro blew it up to try and catch his opposition in the explosion) , and the 2nd it was definitely flying away from the battle as it was going up last time we saw it and the battle was going forward. I wouldn't say it disappear.
Shows how bad ass Amuro Ray is. He was able to take on the Jagd Doga and the Sazabi at the same time in that thing.

A largely underappreciated mobile suit design...
Agreed. It's mecha straight out of the 80's and I dig it. Everybody dumps on it but I think it's awesome. As time goes on I appreciate it even more

It's kinda of the Zeta equivalent of the Gundam MKII. I honestly love this MS. Very underrated.
the zeta's wings were too expensive, so they gave the mass-produced re-gz an entire jet. did I miss anything?
I like to know who does the financials in Anaheim

Why don't they just use the Re-GeZ blueprint and add the Byarlant combat data to make a new Byarlant MK 2

Fun to watch and enjoyable , have tried to find something like this 👍👍
I wish you’d talk about the modelkits. It ouldhave being nice to know how many kits there are
There are the HGUC, MG, MG ReGZ Custom, and MG ReGZ Unicorn version.
@@holden_7597 also the nongrade vintage. And apart from that there is a pletora of action figures I don't know anything about

Awesome video. Thanks a lot men.
For some thing developed from the Zeta Gundam...it did not seem to have a good track record
6:49 Um...Why?
Cause anneheim is a B
It gave it's designs of the nu to the SAZABI
Wait, did he forget zeta?
Everything is good in rgz except the bws
