      No no no, my friend, Richard has it right. It's all about eating Chinese food on an industrial scale, something I do regularly. 🤣🤣🤣

      Doe eens even normaal, man. Iedereen maakt fouten en een vreemde taal is altijd lastig. Wat jij doet hier in de comments is echt heel fout. Laat de man in zijn waarde.

    Great video Richard, we as a cycling club do a yearly trip to the Netherlands starting in Ijmuiden. This is a good insight for any riders that have not ridden in the Netherlands showcasing the infrastructure of the cycling network. 2026 i'm aiming to do RatN which I know you have done, hopefully see you on some Audax events over the next year, last one I bumped into you at McDonalds in Berwick on the Northumberland Nightshift 300. Looking forward to your Dutch videos

      What's wrong with a bit of colour! Seriously though money better spent on building good quality cycle lanes in the first place I agree.

      We have a "wegenverkeerswet" traffic and road laws. They clearly state markings have to be white to not cause any confusion. Mayors want to be "politically correct" so they taylor to the like 0.5% its insanity. Lookup how much those jokes cost...

    It's crazy, but at my age (about the same as this youtuber) I have been in enough places in my country that is impossible for these video's to not have a spot that I go 'oh I lived there as a kid, or oh, my football club was down that road, or 'oh that station has changed a lot since I went to college' No matter where they go, I have been there. Our country is so small

      Having visited a handful of times myself I have some favourites, the national park of Veluwe, the hills of Limburg, the sand dunes that litter the coastline west of Amsterdam, the loneliness of the sea walls as you ride along the very north eastern most coastline with wind turbines in all directions. I never realised the terrain of the Netherlands would be so diverse - the dunes being top of my list - I love the feeling of being close to the sea.

    Great video mate. I'll be honest, I don't know what the fascination is with gravel nowadays? I'm an audax rider, I hate it when the route takes us down a tow path or gravel 😂

    • @BikepackingAdventures
      @BikepackingAdventures  2 месяца назад

      Yeah but audax it's often advised as road so different tyres... the threat of the p word etc... It gets you closer to nature I guess... and away from shit drivers.

      @BikepackingAdventures yeah, I suppose. When I want to bivvy or wildcamp I use my old tourer, which is pretty good once off the tarmac. Maybe I should just get with the times 😅

    Pedantry corner : ij is actually a letter in Dutch different from y. So its actually "dijk" and not "dyk". And when its in caps like in a name for example like IJmuiden, you write both in caps because it counts as a single letter.

    "Hoek" means "Corner"... so it's "Hoek van Holland" or "Corner of Holland" :) maybe not a ... mix

      My main worry when travelling alone is bike security. I'd love to be able to just leave my bike anywhere and go check our museums and such, but don't feel comfortable in doing so much of the time. Even in shops is a worry - I need a travelling companion =)
