Great test, the exact type of real world test that many of us are looking for.....much appreciated. Guess on how the v90 Recharge range would compare to the XC60 Recharge in the same test?

Glad you liked it 🙌 Maybe I'm lending the XC60 next time. Haven't decided yet.

very good indeed especially for such a heavy car. still too expensive car to make any economic sense. you can get a v60 for half the price and run it on 5.5 l/100 km with only e95 normal petrol. this really is the best deal, economically spoken. but again : salute to the V90 performance on electricity, of crse!

The V60 are cheaper but not by much. At least with same spec. V60 T8 Ultimate starts at 784.000 NOK here. V90 T8 Ultimate starts at 899.000 NOK. With the 90 you also get significantly higher interior luxury, noise insulation and space. So depends what your preferences are..

I have the new XC60 T8 "Extended Range" car. At speeds under 45 mph (73 km/hr) in local suburban/rural driving, I am seeing about 53 miles (85 km) of range in electric-only driving. The range goes down quickly with increased speeds, however. And I'm finding that it makes a huge difference driving in "B" mode vs. driving in "D" mode (i.e., much more range in "B" mode)...

Good to know! What's your range on the highway? I'm a relaxed driver and mostly drive max 100kmh (62.5mph). Will this get me 75-90km, like Christian is getting? And what happens in winter? Is it alot worse? Thanks!

nice would be the same test in winter. here in austria we have also winterconditions, so at the moment at ~0° i use preheater, heater, lights and so on - if i yould change from 2019 V90cc petrol only to recharge it would be good to know, if it´s possible to drive to office ~22km and drive back to home every day - with heater and so on - only with battery. The next think - is it really good for petrol engine if you only drive with battery - or in my usecase, how often i would need the petrol? If i going to a long trip (weekend) so i would directly start with petrol i think. One problem i think - if you drie to highway (battery only) and now you have to go faster/overtake(kickdown) - the cold engine will start and have instantly give high power - this should not be really good for the cold engine

Hi Kristian, great test. Thank you. May i ask: is the Google Maps/Android Auto also showing in the central screen behind the steering wheel? In my 2017 v90 it only shows Sensus on the display behind the wheel, not the AA or Carplay one.

You can only have sensus behind the steering wheel on the earlier v90s sadly :((

So what is the petrol engine consumption in city, country road (90) and high way (130) with empty battery ?

Hello, I have exactly the same car and during this weekend I drove 1426 km. I charged the car battery on 100% and drove from BE to CZ through GE and back on highways with average speed 100 km/h (pilot assist on between 120 and 130 km/h). The average consumption was 6,65 l/100 km with the strong head wind for almost 400 km. The average consumption from BE to CZ was 6,18 l/100 km (remaining 60% of battery in CZ) with light back wind and the return way was 7,11 l/100 km with strong head wind. In my view the recuperation ability of new V90 is impressive too. I was able to get more than 50% of battery capacity during 500 km with HOLD function activated (the reason I used it was that the intelligent power distribution using Google Maps was not stable and drained battery. I recognized that when the mark next the battery disappear the car decides to use battery only in HYBRID mode no matter you accelerate in the steep hill. No hint to find the reason for it). Still impressed with the car performance. Hopefully Volvo will solve some software troubles and deficiencies.
