We've been camping along 525 and 525c for years. Always a great spot. They do enforce the 14 days however. Ranger Mike will come knock on the door. HA! He's a nice guy though. Glad you had a good experience there. We met people boondocking on 525 during Thanksgiving and had a great time. Everyone cooked and we had a buffet in the desert. Great Video!
That's awesome! Thanks for watching!!
My first RV trip ever was three weeks long and six days of boon docking. Our first campsite ever was nomads in SD, talk about starting with a bang, we were blown away. We had a lot of people that said you shouldn’t do a trip like that for a first trip, we did and we went Michigan to Seattle and back. Six national parks, 6,852 miles, and no real issues. My advice is don’t be afraid of things do your research and go for it.
We love this kind of story! I believe the phrase, "thrown to the wolves" has been uttered by me (Glynn) thousands of times. There's no better way to learn. So, awesome for you starting out the way you did! Do you still spend a lot of time boondocking? Thanks so much for the comment!
@@ResetYourJourney we are making our second real trip in a week to the smokies but we are doing a luxury resort for this one. We were looking for easy no rushing before the holidays coming up, so just chilling out and eating good food. We wouldn’t boondock for more than a week at a time anyway, a nice long shower is a blessing some days. We could do longer I installed 1200 watts of solar and 400 AH lithium batteries, but we leapfrog between boondocking and full hookups. We don’t like being cramped with other campers, but we like the full hookups too so switching works for now.
We completely understand and don't blame you. I believe we'll evolve to doing the same (mix of boondocking and parks). Staying in the Smokey Mountains is a bucket list for us. We may even spend some time there as we head southwest again. Wishing you well.
@@ResetYourJourney thanks Smokies is one of our favorite places to go to for a little R & R. The trip west was great but 6 national parks in 21 days was too rushed.
I hope the Smokies treat you well during your visit. Looking forward to some of the same.
Hit that thumbs up button if you liked this video! 👍
isn't it annoying for the other campers to have the generator running so long?
When boondocking, just about everyone has generators so it comes with the territory. Generators also aren't very loud. Surprisingly, so far, we haven't been annoyed by other campers with generators.
I was wondering the same thing as I am headed there in 2 weeks. Going to either tent camp or sleep in my suv. I am dreading the generators by everyone. Didn't even think about it until this video. Now I'm rethinking this situation as I am not driving 1000 miles to hear the noise I hear at home:( great video as usual!!
Most BLM sites are so far apart that small generators are inaudible in the next campsite. In our experience, most only run them in the mid morning and during dinner time. It's a lot less prevalent than most expect. Also, lately it seems that solar, batteries and inverters are becoming more pervasive at a fast pace.
I wouldn't worry about the generator noise. What you're considering doing is too awesome to let that stop you. I hope you make to a great location.
Sedona AZ is a beautiful place.
Yes, it is! Can't wait to go back!
Greetings from way up North (Alberta). One thing I have learned in life, if you wish to try something new, you have to take that first step or leap of faith. Like all adventures in life, we learn as we go and we either end up with the desired results or we end up moving on to something else. You never know unless you try and I also believe, it's a great learning experience for young kids. They get to experience real life situations in the great outdoors and that will only benefit them as they continue to mature. My father always taught me that "responsibility" is one of the greatest assets we can behold as we grow into adulthood. It's a trait that builds confidence in preparing for a rock solid life. Thank you for taking the time to show us this snapshot of your first Boondocking adventure and the challenges you experienced. I really liked how you pulled together as a family to overcome and conquer those mishaps. I bet your kids are proud of what was accomplished by it all and I have to say that I learned a few things myself. It also looked like everyone enjoyed the nature and the views were impressive. Arizona is so spectacular and we are so looking forward to exploring it's greatness in the Winter of 22. I look forward to seeing more Boondocking journeys and I am confident that your mishaps will get fewer and fewer with every adventure. PS: Love your ride, I truly love my SuperDuty, but I really admire yours. TCGB., The Captain.
Thank you, thank you! We really appreciate you following us and taking the time to write such a nice comment! Hope you find your way to Arizona in '22!
You could also use your DC chargers to charge them off the truck or trailer batteries.
Also running truck engine to charge the batteries on the truck and the trailer.
True and always good information. Thank you for commenting. Wishing you well.
Nice video but those generators are (doubly) obnoxious. My two cents is to buy a couple lithium batteries and an inverter. Your neighbors will be happy.
Unfortunately, enough batteries to power all of our needs are not in the budget yet. On the flip side, where we boondock most of the time, we almost never have neighbors within sight. Under different circumstances, we're very conscious of our noise level. Thanks for commenting and wishing you well.
Great channel I found you through your bike rack video super stoked!
Awesome! Thanks for watching and following!
Your getting it just have fun👍👍
Thank you! We've gotten much better and are now in love with boondocking! We look forward to many more awesome locations. Thank you so much for commenting and we wish you well Joe!
Hi sir fist things first you need to get rid of those Yamaha generators and get a bigger one to run it all !!!
Harbour freight tools has inverter predator generators 3500 watt and I believe they just came out with one other new one even bigger 9500 watts I will look it up and post it to this message in edit but these generators are awesome extremely quiet on eco mode
The predator 3500 watt inverter generator is $849.99
& The ***NEW***
predator 9500 inverter generator is
$1,999.99
But you can use the discount coupons to get the price lower
Appreciate the tip. Wish you well.
Nicely done! We are finally getting around to trying to catch up to you, with green envy!! :-) :-) Hope all continues to go well, and look forward to following your journey! I have a little boy next door who keeps asking when your boys will be back! ;-) And we just got back from an amazing road trip to Oregon, hope you make it there sometime. So much to see and experience, as is most of the US! Best wishes and hope to meet up again sometime, you are always welcome back! :-) -Sheila & Rusty
Thank you and thanks for watching!! We miss you guys! Say hi to Dax for us! We hope to see you on the road!
Seeing Glynn forget the structure of a schedule and not know what day it is makes me laugh. Probably the most regimented man I know let go and roll with it like this just makes me happy. These are life changing moments for not just the kids, and I could not be more happy for you all. Side question... You have solar, yet it seems you are ultra dependent on generators. Whats does the solar provide in the way of power? Can that be expanded in the means of additional batteries?
Hi Mike! I appreciate that... I'm definitely learning to loosen up. Our solar takes care of the batteries that operate all the 12 volt appliances. We don't have an inverter to convert to 120. Currently, I don't feel like a bigger battery bank, more solar and an inverter is worth the large investment. If we don't need air conditioning, running 1 generator a day for an hour is enough to recharge devices. Although, a 20k solar and lithium set up would be nice...
Great Video. Loved meeting and comparing notes!
Thanks Scott!! It was so great meeting you too! Hope we can meet up again soon!
Great Job working with your boys to fix the Generators! It's was awesome to see you guys figure it out, and stay with your plans to Boondock! Thanks for sharing! Great Video!
Thank you! We're all about teamwork and figuring things out as a family!
Thank you for watching!
Carry a Bluetti or the like with a pure sine wave inverter with battery clamps and run it off your car battery with your car running. Not ideal, but is an emergency backup for a small amount of power.
We've come a long way from that video and now love boondocking exclusively. You're absolutely correct. We have a Bluetti and it makes a great backup. We appreciate you following along and commenting. Wishing you well!
@@ResetYourJourney Excellent. God bless and safe travels.
Thank you and likewise.
I thought that model has solar that is designed to handle long term boondocking? Have you thought about getting a larger solar setup for longer boondocking?
We have enough solar and battery power to run our DC systems indefinitely as long as we stay in the desert. But adding enough battery power to run an inverter for daily use of the air conditioner would require a substantial set up. It's not worth it at this point in time. That said, it would be awesome to have such a set up. That will be a priority on our next rig. Thanks for commenting Rob. Wishing you well.
👏👏👍👍Great video your boys are very well behaved and cute!!
Thank you!
Be very careful about dumping Any water out on the ground. It's very illegal in some parts of some states.
Yeah, it took us a little bit of time to figure our where we can and can't throw dish water. For the sake of the environment, we wipe any grease away and use a biodegradable soap, so the impact is minimal. Spent many years as a scout backpacking the Rockies, so try to execute the same practices I learned in scouting. Thank you for commenting and we wish you well.
What the h? It took me a full minute to realize she has a goanna on her shoulder!
Oh yes, that's Max, our bearded dragon. Thanks so much for watching!
Holaaa...muy bueno el contenido chicos...Saludos desde La Patagonia Argentina.
Hola Carlos! Muchas gacias y gracias por ver!
Unless you are actively running your AC, why do you even need to run generator?
Thank for commenting John. We've come a long way since that video. We also have a bearded dragon who needs heat lamps run intermittently, which require generators. We've made changes and chiseled down the use of our generators a lot. Wishing you well!
Unless you need the AC, one generatr will be just fine. Forget the coments from the crybabies about your generators bothering them, they have obviously not tried boondocking. I am sure you, like almost everyone do not run them thru the night, and if a noise as loud as a whisper is going to bother them during the day, they should probably stay in their basment bedroom at home. And I agree with one other comment, Id get one generator that can do it all. I personally run a Briggs-N-Stratton 2400 watt inverter generator, It runs everything just fine, including my 43 year old roof AC, Just only one item at a time.
Totally agreed (on all fronts)! I know the generator you speak of and it's a good one. We have the two Yamaha's since they came with our ORV when we bought it used (and they have yet to die). Otherwise, the Briggs-N-Stratton would be great. We usually only run 1 Yamaha unless we require AC, which isn't often. We appreciate the comment and wish you well!
No solar?
We do have 340 watts of solar, but no inverter. Our 2 lead acid batteries only run our 12volt systems.
You are in a higher elevation and maybe starving the caburetor for air.
Likely. The carburetor certainly did not like the lack of oxygen at higher elevations. Zero issues since we've been touring the east coast. Appreciate the comment Mike!
Please invest in some solar and learn to chill on your energy consumption…. You’ll have better experiences
We're accepting donations :-) Thank you for commenting and we wish you well!
Exactly, solar ain't cheap 👍🇺🇲@@ResetYourJourney

I realize this video is almost a year old, but I just came across it and thought I would comment. I have been a full time RVer for 9 years now and some of that time has been boondocking.
You all seem like a real nice family and you are new to this lifestyle, so please take no offence to what I am saying. But you are not boondocking. Running two generators so you can use your AC in the desert is not boondocking. All you are doing is annoying anyone within a quarter mile of you with your generator noise. You would be surprised how that noise travels in the desert. People boondock to enjoy nature and the outdoors, not sit inside a air conditioned trailer.
Dumping your dishwater on the ground does nothing but attract bugs and animals to the food particles that are in it, which makes it terrible for you and anyone that comes after you. I have a 50 gal plastic tank I keep in the truck and use a transfer pump to fill it and take it to a dump station.
Full time RVing and boondocking is a great way to live. But please be respectful of any boondockers near you or those that will come after you.
I sincerely hope you and your family enjoy your camping. Jim
