- I review the Generation 2 Dodge Viper GTS. This beast is still an American icon and a very interesting car to drive. What are your thoughts on the Dodge Viper?

Yeesh, that thing had ALL the aftermarket catalogue thrown at it! Chrome badges, Sneaky Pete stickers, carpet, eject cig, HVAC knobs, random gauge pod (on a stock engine?) , roof scoop, wing, shorter shifter (Gen 5 knob?), etc.
Stock radio / headunit fyi. Trans will feel less notchy as it heats up. That isn't the stock length for the shift knob shaft (oem is too tall, that one is too short). Grab the 'clutch improvement kit' for better clutch feel.
This is the car that made me fall in love with cars as a kid.
Gen 2 viper is still my dream car... I finally got to a place a year or two ago where I could afford one... till the prices doubled =( Just missed my chance I guess.
That stereo is the factory one though..👍
had to stop watching after he said that
Always bringing us the greatest

Just like George Floyd 💯
The Gen 2 Viper was listed at 450 horsepower and 490 ft lb of torque, however that information was wrong. The Gen 2 Viper actually had 490hp and 500 foot pounds of torque.
Actually I've done a videos on this on my channel. During the last visit at the Connors Assembly plant they actually listed what the actual numbers were for the Gen 2 and it was purposely underestimated for insurance reasons.
But the Gen 2 Viper truly is a special vehicle yes it's raw it's unforgiving and a lot of ways but it's so pure and that's what makes it so amazing...
Still on my bucket list
I just picked up a gen 3 last week. I don't have another to compare it to, but I love the car. It reminds me a lot of the feel you get riding a sports bike without all the electronics.
The Viper show is what made me fell in love with the Viper
I’ve got a 2000 sadly thts year they stopped with the forged internals and it was last for no abs. They also have no traction control either. It’s drivers car, and thts what I love about tht generation plus it was also my dream car growing up. Glad you were able to get opportunity to drive one. Wait for the market to come down and get one you won’t regret it one bit lol.
Abs wasn't 2000 it was like 2011 went the put abs and tc and stability
@@DylanL69 oh ok I was always told tht 01 is when they added abs and I wasn’t sure about tc. Guess I should’ve done the research myself lol
@@Skarfac3d you’re correct, 2001 is when they introduced abs, previous poster is clueless. And there was no 2011 model, gen 5 was introduced in 2013.
@Hunter no they didn't get ABS til they got traction control they were known for not having ABS and being brutal
@@Skarfac3dit was 2001
These cars are still so iconic and beautiful! I've owned my B&W 96 UGR TT GTS for almost 15 years now and I can't image ever wanting to part ways with it... These cars are simply timeless!
Racer X, what I'm about too say doesn't have anything to do with this video but it's something that needs to be said (no worries, it's good). I have been a GM guy my entire life. I started watching your channel around 2 weeks ago when I was looking for a new car (I only buy American muscle/pony cars). Before you came along I wouldn't have ever considered driving a Dodge.
There I was looking at replacing my 2012 SS Camaro (as daily driver) with a 2018 and I just wasn't happy with the way it looked. Around that time I started watching your channel and your coverage got me to look at the Challenger's. All I have too say is...wow, they are truly incredible. Well, I put my money where my mouth is and I purchased a drop dead gorgeous yellow and black 2017 Dodge Challenger RT+P. I decided to go a little mild because I just didn't know the cars. I plan to give my fiancee this one next year and buy a Hellcat Redeye for myself. Thank you for opening my eyes up to the amazing Challenger. You have a subscriber for life.
Legendary.
Coolest car ever made in my opinion.
Gen2, in particular.
My dad used to have one when i was young. Same colors too. From what i remember it was some special color scheme. He didn’t have the wing or the roof scoop. Such a cool car
What an absolute beauty! Great update X🤘😎
I love those old vipers, I’ve always wanted to get one
Racer x The content King 👍💪🔥
Sweet ride. Been my favorite car of all time. Would love to ride in a gen 2.
Such a beautiful beast!
Great Video! I have always loved these cars and there are very few left. I almost forgot they existed 😅
That’s not an aftermarket radio. It’s factory. Also, it does have a spare in the back. You have to lift up the cover to access it.
Viper is beautiful 👍🏽
I love all Vipers but Gen 4 and 5 are my favs
This is my favorite video from you!!
Thanks for featuring this American 🇺🇸 icon 🤘🏻
Used to live in Worcester MA and someone a few streets down had a mint Viper GTS-R and a Ferrari 360 or F355 I cant remember. All I remember is being astonished at seeing an homologation GTS-R parked in the driveway one day driving by in my Honda Accord.
I had a Gen 2 GTS for 7 years. What a fun car!!!
As a former Chrysler technician in the late 90s and early 2000s I drove these cars when they were new, sooo many good memories. But I hate all the aftermarket crap that this one has on it.
As a current Viper GTS owner… 🙄 what aftermarket crap are you talking about? The wheels, the smooth tube intake, the wing? The shifter? The HVAC knobs? All minimal and common upgrades. You act like it’s riced out.
@@Jacktherippa82 No it isn't riced out, I'm just more a purist so I think especially the wing and wheels are just fucking stupid. An aftermarket exhaust, the drilled and slotted rotors are fine. I like them better with the factory look.
This car is just a piece of art, it's one of my Dad's dream cars, he ended up buying a QC Viper Truck since they're cheaper. Hope I can get my cousin to sell me his gen 2 Viper tho.
Good video… FYI that is the standard radio that came with a Gen 2 Viper.
My father used to work at the Auburn Hills Tech Center where they built and tested the Viper on their track right on campus. And in the early goings they struggled a lot with the car going Airborn.
i have a 1993, i can see that
Racer X🤠 I believe that car would Get R Done😎💰💰💰💰💰💰💰🤟
Good video on gen 2 viber, nice to see a change on some older muscle, be nice to see you test drive a 70's hemi cuda next. They sure are far from perfect but still fun to drive and you get a ton of thumbs up driving one.
The gen 2 Viper GTS is my favorite car. 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Dude, you gotta check out the "Juggernaut" build!!
sweet car, love gen 2
Gotta love the Viper
Looks like you're about to have a panic attack from the small interior! Sweet car!
I had a 94 R/T and a 99 GTS. The Roadster was a beast to drive, but i loved it. The GTS was a smooth driver, but better top end. I loved both but my wife was afraid to ride in the Roadster because of the roar of the engine with Borlas. Sadly i sold both to a young man who killed himself and his friend in the Roadster. He was 43 years old and had driven musclecars his whole life. The Viper is a beast and you better learn how to drive it.
Sheesh! He killed myself and the passenger! How fast was he going?
My dream car! Maybe one day ill have one :(
i have a 14 gts stryker red viper i get alot attention!!!need some leather spray bro i hit 5 grand tach tires started spinnin lol i ceramic coated mine every time i take the cover i smile still after 8 years have a high performance computer block n high octane gas runs like a charm now
Still one of my dream cars
I believe that color scheme GTS with Silver stripes only had 61 built that year. I’m dead lucky to have one of the other 60. I know you’re a Dodge guy and had Hellcats…but have you driven a manual Hellcat? My 2017 Hellcat’s clutch pedal stiffness makes my Vipers feel like a wet noodle. Although the Vipers are tight, the seats are extremely comfortable over the long distance. The only hard thing is that there’s no dead pedal. And the Vipers pedal scheme has the pedals sort of shifted at an angle to the left. Every time I get into the Viper, after having driven the Hellcat, I accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. Takes me about 1 minute for my brain to realign. the Viper is very light and has a ton a power on tap at any time. No worries about going into limp mode like with the power added vehicles. Vipers are meant to be visceral and scary; that why you drive them. Of course, if you buy one, you should get some professional coaching to enjoy at the max. It’s the most important mod; the driver mod.
2ND Generation Viper is The Best 💯
I had no time for the original viper as it had a crap soft top roof, plus the sills got so hot as it had a side exit exhaust pipe, but when the hard top came out, it really changed the game.
i got a hard top on my 1993. no stupid air bags, i love it
Continue to impress👌
Just imagine what they could do with modern tech if they still made the Viper. A 392 makes pretty the same power as that 8.0L V10. I know they increased displacement on later models.
The OEM parameters of the gearbox, engine and it's cooling had so much reserve that Viper standardised supercharger package could be just installed and ready to drive....that's what I call the classic America engineering....
watch and Like all racer x video's but this one takes the cake 🎂😆😆😆😆
FrankieD R/T in Germany. MOPAR BABY!!!
A Racer X I am really not into dodges I really like Mustangs that is what I'm into but that Viper is a very interesting car I think I might kind of like it I wouldn't mind having something like that nice interesting
Thinking of getting 1
i used to really want one of these vipers but now id prefer a hellcat charger but i looked to see if there was any available and sure enough theres 1 at the carmax in houston a 2004 srt10 with 17,000 miles for $62k so if anybody wants one and your in texas there you go plus it was nice to see that you can still buy one
nope get a viper....viper is like driving a race car/roadster, the hellcat and others are like driving a Cadillac boat.
Wonder which gets more loose in the rear, the Viper or the Hellcat
Love love love a Viper, Such a timeless look. Will always be sexy. 😅😅 And you got to drive it!
are the pillar gauges worth the information they show?
Great job
I love my 2000 gts.
A viper with no side pipes is like a sandwich with no bread
agree, i have a 1993 im about to put straight pipes on
Does that means better or worse ?
...come on...especially this feature is matter of petsonal preferences....you love them...another don't...and it's the engine making Viper what it is....
I wish it would have stuck around. Seems like all the Charger/Challenger variations took it's spot. I like it better than those two though.
I’ve got one in mckinney you need to review. Gen 2 twin turbo :).
That thing would look really good without the wing in my opinion.
Those cars are so brutal
gen 1 all the way
MORE VIPER CONTENT PLEASE- HINT HINT
I will have one
Awesome Racer X! I wonder how that 20-year-old viper stacks up to a Scat Pack? 0-60 and 0-120?
ruclips.net/video/oXACzoNvTKo/видео.html
The viper wins pretty easily from what I’ve seen
Dodge should have done a 3-5 year run for viper before it’s over
had a gen 2(99 ACR) now a gen 5 TA, I hate that aftermarket wing and roof thing.
If I was going to get a GTS, would have to be blue and white, otherwise I'd take a gen 1 for its sleek look. Also, I don't think that's an aftermarket stereo...
I think you'd change your mind if you drove a Gen 1 rt10 about the not liking the roadster
This one I will get any color
The owner shouldn’t have changed the transmission gear shift, the original one is taller and easier to shift, I know I have one.
I don’t like the big wing on it. That really makes it look ugly. But any viper from 2000 and up is my DREAM CAR! I want one so bad!!
96-99 were the same body style, but the only years that came with forged pistons and a more agressive cam. The 00-02 were called "creampuffs" and lacked these things, but did have ABS. The earlier GTS's were/are the ones to have in the GTS coupe... Especially the 96-97 iconic blue and white.
I bet that goes for more than my house.
I imagine you just spin out, if you press to much gas not sure, but everyone talks about them being difficult to drive. Are they difficult to drive for everyday
You could daily drive it, but it’s a very raw experience. He is correct in that the clutch is stiff and the gear changes take getting used to. If you drove it for a week, you would adapt. You definitely have to respect the torque and know what you’re doing if you push it. So many people wrecked them drag racing on the street and through twisties, simply because they weren’t experienced enough. It’s basically a street-legal race car. There’s limited electronic safety nets (none in earlier years), so it’s all on the driver to maintain control. The foot box is very tight too.
There is a spare tire is in the back under the carpet
FYI that's a stock stereo.
Racer X I’ve bit my tongue for so long you don’t have to respond. I see you don’t have a ring on your finger I know it’s drama who got rid of who?
If you want comfort go get something else. Viper and Corvette are made to be fast for racing not comfort.
Dude, buy a Viper already!
Supra
Be mush better with a shaved rear bumper
Did you buy it ??? ...lol.
