BROKEN Logitech G920 Steering Wheel | Can I FIX It?

- This G920 Xbox steering wheel belongs to Anthony, thanks for letting me take a look at it!
His puppy chewed through the USB cable, so it's stopped working. Let's see how easy (or not!) it is to replace the cable and get this thing motoring again.
Hope you enjoy!
Steve
PS. I'm not an expert in repairs at all. I do this for fun, and it may not be the best or safest way to go about repairing broken stuff. I'm pretty good at melting plastic though. Please don't copy me - I'm an idiot.

I expected to hear Gary Newman-Cars in the end credits. That would of been Awesome. 😎👍💯
Steve you're really blessing us this Christmas. Thanks a million . My guilty pleasure is to lay in the tub with a beer and watch your videos . Keep up the good work
Nice one, Steve, you have done well. l do enjoy watching your channel, and I've learnt a lot from you and growing my skills for my channel keep up the fantastic work and wish you all the best ❤ 😃
Fairy liquid is your friend when rethreading strain reliefs. Even if the cable is very snug it will slip through beautifully with the tiniest drop of liquid on the cable.
Every Canadian reading this: 🧐
Also helps if you drill out all the remaining outer sheath left behind from the old cable...
@@Ea-Nasir_Copper_Co 🤣For our North American friends, Fairy Liquid = Dish soap.
Looking good Steve!!! Merry Christmas to you and the family🎄🎅
loving the cameraderie between you two folks. Happy Christmas to both of ya!
It's the guy from the shirt! ;)
Vince is here! Wooo! 😅
That ending song! 😂😂😂
Happy holidays Steve!
Yet another video? This has been a great week.
Love the nod to MMV !!
Love repairing these things I've done so many of them in my time now it's become child's play
I own one and it's always scary to see usb wires stuck inside the unit meaning if you break the wire or the conector gets crushed or sonething, it's a pain to fix, you did a super good job on this!
Btw the white flashing light indicated that the wheel is on but it failed to calibrate, the wheel should rotate by itself and center out after once plugged in, this is because you didn't have the power adapter plugged in, maybe you didn't even have the power adapter with you since it's not yours, the power is for the motors you saw inside that provide force feedback, happy christmas steve!
Hi Steve, you can use Isopropyl alcohol as a lubricant to run cables through rubber sheaths..
It's an old trick that often works.. Happy Holidays :)
I really like these post-repair clips.
Merry Christmas Steve !!!! looking forward to more content next year !!!
Merry Christmas to Steve&Dave and thanks for all the videos.
I have done strain relief like this in the past. I just cut one side then opened it like a clam shell. Then glued it back on.
This is the way.
Do you go all mandalorian there 😂😂
Happy Christmas Steve, enjoyed watching your pain and triumphs over this year!
Great fix! Merry Christmas Steve!
Hey! Thank you very much for this short episodes at this time of the year! The best for you and the channel! 😊
The Christmas miracle continues ! 3 videos in a row and no rap 😂. Merry crimbo to you and all your family Ste , thanks for all the great videos 👍🏻
Thanks for the year of great videos , please keep it up , happy Christmas for you and the family, from me here in australia
Top tip: a quick lick of the sheath (matron) often helps cables slide through reused strain reliefs.
I told this to my wife but she still said No.
Inserting Sid James laugh here..... Hurhaha!!!!
@@TallonPrey She said Yes to me.
Just run a drill bit thru the strain relief and a touch of super glue to secure it to the new cable. Works a treat
You are funnier than ever….what a hero.
Great fix Steve well done nice job, have a great Christmas to you and all your family 😊
Nice repair of such small gauge wires. WHile I do have such size wires, buying a replacement is such a convenient way to repair such things. Eyes are not as good as they used to be. But I do have a digital microscope pretty much, or even the same, as your. Thumbs Up!
On the third day of Fixmas, Steven fixed for thee, a broken plastic thing for steeeeeer-ing.
GREAT WORK.. Those are JST 2.o connectors btw
Happy Christmas you crazy diamond.
With the strain relief, I usually find a drill bit about the same diameter as the old cable and clean out the hole before reusing it. I then slide the cable through the strain relief a little more than I need and then put superglue / epoxy on the cable and pull it back a little so the glue goes all the way in. I have never had any issues that way.
I recently bought myself a £26 IGBT arc and tig capable welder off ebay, I promised my daughter I would build her in the new year a frame utilising an old Mini Sport car seat and some 2x2 square tube as she has quite an exotic set of steering wheels and pedals for her PS2.
what a perfideous pup! superb fix!
😁 thanks TSL!
Merry Christmas sir! thanks for the awesome vids
That was fun to watch. It made me think, could I take my old USB A or MIcro USB devices and just cut the cord and solder in a USB C replacement?

Brazil mentioned! Yaaay
I tried to take apart a force feedback wheel once and it sucked, nice work!
I believe you, since this is feedback and it feels forced.
@@hugegamer5988 Lol.. that was terrible. I like it! :D
good job steve ! ... maybe you could have drilled the strain relief hole a tad bigger ? ... happy chrimbo .
I would just use a drill to make that whole a bit wider to fit the new cable. I did this in the past for a few controllers that had a wire broken near the controller.
I think if you used a reamer on that plug, you could have inserted the fully braided cable through. Reamers are a handy bodging tool.
One more satisfying video!!!!
But I have a question ❓❓❓
" Why don't you use an electric screwdriver " ❓❓❓
I wish to you Merry Christmas and a more happy New Year!!!
🤗🤗🤗🤗
Great week!.I miss your Saturday uploads.
Made it in the first 5k! A first for everything. Happy holidays!
Have a great Christmas and New Years Steve and I am looking forward to more excellent content in 2025. All the best.
Kept this one in reserve for a while, look at those subscriber figures in the background 😮
I literally have this same steering wheel and the cable needs changing. Will come back to the video when I finally get around to fixing the cable.
another option might be to use the strain relief hole to fit a USB port then just use a bog standard cable.....easier to replace if any further damage occurs
Nice test drive from Anthony - driving in a straight line lol
Good video. I love Chewy.
I would use a good water based lubricant (ky) to aid slipping cable through strain relief
I realize it's to late now but you could have used a drill bit to enlarge the hole. I've done this fixing headsets at work. You enlarge the hole. Pull the wire through. Farther than needed. Then a little bit of black silicone on the rubber on the usb. Then pull it back and let the rubber cure.
A couple of dabs of Superglue inside the heat-shrink would help to secure the new cable more.
Hi Steve Merry Christmas. Are you going to do the Patrion rap? I do enjoy your game.
A handy lubricant for 'helping' wires through tight grommets is a dab of washing-up liquid. Liquid soap works too. Just remember - a little goes a long way..
Nice T-Shirt 😀
Such a cute dog. ♥
Great content dude love it
I don't know why but your videos are coming to me by default with an AI dubbing in Portuguese, but great video steve like always
Funny i was repair exactly same problem on this exactly same stearing whell one week before. The cable is long enough so I shortened it and used only the universal USB A connector.
I can't believe you don't have a 3D printer to make little parts like the strain relief on the cable. You'd have a whole host of other content for RUclips too!
Unreleased previously recorded content? Awesome! I can tell by the melted plastic counter. :P
Love the chewy MCchewface
You should have borrowed Vince's Dremel to enlarge the hole in the strain relief
Use a cup of hot water to heat the strain relief grommetty thing.
Oh! Thats a nice fix!
What are the chances???
I was just looking at Logitech Racing Wheels yesterday, and now you're repairing one?
🤯
Great video, Nice fix! The singing is still awful.
Hes in the dog house now after that 😂Have a great Christmas 🎅🏼
Sorry to say it's better without the rap 🤣 Thanks for the video
Smashed the like on this 🎄🙏
The dog looks suitably ashamed. Doggo forgiven.
Is this time for another chanel steve 1 for fixits and 1 for revisits?
love the tune
I think that strain relief will be a weak point still. I would have tied a knot inside the unit
FYI: WD40 for sliding the cable through the restraint works great.
Pup is too cute to be angry with.
Yep, it sure is an adorable little thing!
I know you wanted a quick easy fix, but with all the USB ports lying around, maybe would have been better to solder conector to connector? that way you can just change the cable when someone chews through it :/
Look how young Dave looks. Must have filmed this a while ago
Brave or lucky, assuming those cables use the same wire colours 👍🏻
"Is that a banana in your pocket, or are you just happy to see us?" - The Cannibals 😁
Shish KeBob, Shish KeJoe, Shish KeLarry! 😅
No western union splice. For shame. Still love the video!!
Nice fix but not solid at all if you pull the cable, it's only held by the heat shrink from outside.
That strain relief is doing nothing now with just those thin wires through it, the strain is being taken by the bit of heat shrink which won't last. I'd have at least added a cable tie after the strain relief to help it a bit.
Should have made the dog fix it. He won’t learn otherwise 😂
You should bore out the hole in the strain reliefe so your usb cable fit. (shockingly they are all aproximatley the same size, "some crazy talk about being a standard" so it would fit and could be glued properly) "just incase what i said was hard to follow, the only reason the new usb cable didnt fit is because the old usb cable casing was still in there"
Chewy McChewface! LOL.....Love it!
So should have put a usb port on the back for when hungry pup eats the new one. Lol.
Is that Kevin Smith @ 1:05?
🎵🎶🎵"I've been driving in my car.. listening to Jeremy Clarkson" 🎵🎶🎵
Missed opportunity for Nuthin but a G Thang outro 😭😂
missed a trick there, could have taken the internal to a new external female usb socket, he'd only need to get a new cable next time :)
Someone looks like they need an electric screwdriver for Christmas!
Steve, I love your monkey island backgrounds, where do you get them from?
Hey, hope you don't get another copyright strike for the outro 😂
I miss my old steering wheel it had an upside down T shaped base so you could hook it under your legs as you sit in your armchair,it was great just for that reason,oh it worked fantastic aswell 😃just had a google and it was called an interact v3
Almost didn't see that Tee Shirt.
Now I wonder if he owns one of yours ?🤔
Why is your vacuum cleaner next to your telly ? 🤯
So many videos!
You could have upgraded it to a detachable cable by placing a usb-c connector where the old cable was going in. You've shown that you have those connectors already.
Good plan.
The force feedback breaks a lot on the logitech wheels
A little Madness at the end.
