Hi, how are things regarding the current situation in Bulgaria now? I'm in London, seriously considering moving out of the UK; it's getting tough here with talk of CVD passports for pubs and shops. Is there any indication of that type of thing in Bulgaria? Also one of the things that attracts me to Bulgaria is the flax tax of 10% - do you have experience of this? Many thanks

I was thinking about asking you this, while watching a video about original Jamaican cuisine... Have you ever been to Jamaica? If so please tell us what is it like? I know about it only from movies - the stereotype with pot and reggae, but i think it should be much much more than that to it. A lot of Bulgarians watch your vids and i believe a story about such an amazing place (and the culture there) on the carribean would be great:), since not many people have been there so i believe it would be appreciated hearing first hand what it is like... Don't be offended but UK is less interesting to me than Jamaica, not that it isn't but...come on:)
You're right it's a little more interesting than rainy UK haha. I love the cuisine and there are many many dimensions to it. A personal favourite would be one of the favourites of chicken rice and pea or curry goat. I haven't been yet unfortunately but will in the future! Perhaps I can touch on some aspects of the culture in some videos however I'd have to figure how I'd structure it tbh.
Nice video, Rhyes. What's your opinion about the anti-gay events that took place in Plovdiv? Including hate towards turkish people as well. Do you think the fact that you found the golden area for you and that can make you not aware of the whole situation in the country? Plus i love your videoes, but confirming one counrty is safe when a hate crimes are happening all the time is not safe thing to do. Take care of yourself. Respect.
I want to be very straight forward so don't think I'm being angry haha. Thanks for the comment and for watching I see you comment regularly and appreciate it but...Firstly, I really really really dislike the "golden area" argument. I may possibly be more well-read on current events (politically and culturally) than most natives here and most certainly understand the history to a similar level now. I have made (and make) a large effort to make sure I am always aware of what's going on and the long history of this part of the world. One of my biggest passions is history and the movement of peoples throughout time so I am most certainly not ignorant. I have spent more time than most studying anthropology of these lands, political movements and cultural environments. The fact I like it here does not influence my view. If Plovdiv really was dangerous or hateful I'd not be here. I am lucky enough to work for myself and be able to live anywhere in the world basically. I just fell in love with this country (and the wonderful people who inhabit BG). Bulgaria is way way way safer than the UK right now. Regardless of how people want to spin it the UK is an incredibly dangerous place. I grew up there...We have constant terror attacks, child abuse rings in the thousands, small scale religious warfare, sharia zones, multiple hate groups with decent amounts of political clout and a toxic psychopathic elite who control government. That's before we even look at petty crime and gang activity. I would rather walk through Plovdiv or even Sofia 50x than risk walking through Birmingham, Manchester, London (or any city in the UK tbh) at night once. The hate crimes are a relatively small sub-group of people doing stupid things. They will naturally be bred out/replaced if their ideas are incompatible with the progress of society (which is what is currently happening). Honestly I don't have a view on the anti-gay stuff or the Turkish stuff because we all know it's not right but we can not regulate 100% of everyone's behaviour. You will always get 0.1-1% of people being uneducated idiots regardless of the country. All we can do is spread love and positivity and eventually the world will manifest itself to this worldview. Would you prefer I lie and tell everyone Plovdiv is a dangerous warzone similar to the Congo? Honestly it's a pretty safe place by European standards and far better than UK, Germany and most certainly 100x safer than most of France which is basically lost. Thing is one or two incidents make the news and then everyone believes it is the norm. Similarly to if someone attacked me (hasn't happened yet touch wood), it wouldn't make all Bulgarians racist and violent. Some low class idiots can't function in modern society and attack gays practising their freedom of sexuality but that does not represent most of society. Whether or not people support it is a different story but violence is never normal and is a very small group of people. Hope this made sense I've tried my best to articulate my thoughts but basically if 99% of people are good you can not say somewhere is dangerous because of the horrible 1%. Thank you once again for watching and sending positive vibes your way!
@@ChadandJamal Well, thanks for your reply. I do have friends, black guys who has been called monkeys every time they go out in Sofia, so can't call Bulgaria a black friendly counrty as much as i want. You should know you have a charisma that makes you extremely likable and maybe thats what i used as a golden area as example. I used to live in London for years. In Harrow-on-the hill area around Wembley. I saw what you mean by dangerous, but you know you can see these dodgy people around, in Bulgaria they hide themselves. I wish my country is much more tolerant , but it's a long journey. Sooner or later people will understand that. You can tell how many years back in the past we are as we still use the N word as normal and the phrase "Like a white person" when you want to say that you deserve something. People are not bad, they just need to move on.
You may be positively discriminated, like to be favorized, we don't have many black people on Balcan, so we consider you precious in society, sometimes it's unpleasant when Balcans are stoping you for selfie just because you are black and they want to show themselves like look I have exotic friend.

Zdrasti na vsichki😀
LOL it's raining like shit right now in London.
💝
Instead ,,Здрасти на всички!'' say something like ,,Кво става хора''. Sounds less formal, we already know each other!
Between London in Lockdown X Provdiv free hiking at seven hills? With the minimum of common sense everyones will choose Plovdiv, certainly :)
Bravo
💋💋💋🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬
why would you choose Bulgaria, i am sorry be safe.
Does your girlfriend know she's been considered future wife, or you just dropped the news by mistake? :))
You may be positively discriminated, like to be favorized, we don't have many black people on Balcan, so we consider you precious in society, sometimes it's unpleasant when Balcans are stoping you for selfie just because you are black and they want to show themselves like look I have exotic friend.
Greater Bulgaria haha shots fired at our Macedonian brothers.
It's cool you don't experience racism here but honestly, Bulgarian people are very racist against Turkish and especially Roma people.
Глупачка
@@elisabethacronqvist7859 Това, което казах е факт
People don't hate gypsies for their race, but for their behavior. And most people don't hate Turks.
@@rightwingreactionary Thank you "rightwingreactionary" for your opinion, I'm sure you aren't biased at all.
@@СвеБожилова Does right wing automatically equate to nazi in your head?
Always enjoy your offerings - this no exception! I'm also British now loving living in България - so much to like about the country, as you've said - landscape, seascape, skyscape, history, buildings, food, wine, yoghurt, people, music - my favourite is the traditional dance-form. Many countries have their own dance traditions, but to see - or join in - a chain of people moving in step, not mechanically but organically, always room for an extra dancer, gently progressing, to the special feel of Bulgarian music played by a Bulgarian instrumental line-up, somehow moves me very deeply, and gives a fuller insight into an important part of what it means to belong to this wonderful country. There's a folk-song that expresses it nicely: ситно се хоро виеше, виеше (delicately the dance winds, winds). Please keep up the videos...
Wow... So beautifully said! Thank you for describing your connection to Bulgaria so sincere! Wish you a lot of happiness!
I couldn't say it better.
