It’s actually possible to survive this if your fluttering skills are good enough. If you manage to hold out, Baby Bowser starts walking backwards... and upside down. If you manage to REALLY hold out, then you’ll see him walk so far back that he becomes a blip, AND you’ll start seeing duplicates of him coming from the corners of the screen. If you manage to really REALLY hold out, then he eventually turns right side up again and starts walking forward again, while the duplicates vanish. There’s also a glitch where if you manage to defeat Baby Bowser after he destroys all the platforms, they never reappear for the subsequent cutscene and he just falls into the abyss. And because the game requires him to land on something before the cutscene continues, this causes the game to softlock.
Anyone else brought here by tv tropes? On another note, it's oddly refreshing to see a fail video when there are so many perfect runs and never-fail walkthroughs.

i swear this is the specific reason i feared this boss so much when i was younger, i mean the atmosphere is creepy enough, especially the music, because both just came out of nowhere in a game that's generally happy and cheerful-looking, and plus bowser walking ever so closer was really ominous, but the first time i played it and i failed that last shot and he ran full speed ahead into the ground, that's what truly kept me from beating the game for a month or so
I wanted to see what would happen if I let Baby Bowser get to close to me in Yoshi's Island for the GBA when I was young but then I changed my mind and didn't want to see or know anymore.

I was born 1991 and the level of poop that wanted to come out of my 5 yr old pants when I played this back then... And because the Internet wasn't a big thing back then, it was very hard to have endings of games spoiled for you, so I couldn't even be a little bit prepared for how scary this was going to be. 😂 I remember my hands squeezing the controller when he got super close. Especially on the big CRT TV I was playing it on. It felt like he was in your room.
