      I'd have to agree. Even though I have the phantom canyon nuc with the rtx 2060 mobile gpu, and I'm happy with the gaming/gpu performance, intel for some reason kept the cpu neutered at a 4c/8t variety, which the HX99 soundly stomps. I haven't seen any successor nuc models in the same form factor coming out in the future they're all now basically normal ATX PC size, which seems pointless imo.

    • @PeteSiebenand
      @PeteSiebenand Год назад +2

      Intel made a new nuc after phantom canyon/2060 - but it’s got an intel gpu which just is a pita. (I have a phantom canyon but looking for upgrade) this looks like what intel should have done.

    Definitely interested in an emulation video. Been looking for a mini-pc ever since the Steam Deck, and specifically SteamOS, made the idea of adding a small form factor PC for some light couch gaming much more viable. My current setup involves running 80 feet of overpriced fiber HDMI and USB cables from my office to my living room. It works well, and running on a 3080, but would be much less hassle with the PC actually living in the same space as my controllers and mouse and keyboard. Emulation is definitely the big requirement for me here though. EmuDeck now goes onto every device I can run SteamOS or Big Picture Mode on.

A similar desktop is around 700 right now, so you are essentially paying for convenience. That is fine though, for someone who just needs a basic computer that can play games decently as well, this a great piece of tech going forward. However, I do want to see them adding higher tier mobile RX6000 series GPU`s to this system as other ODM `s and OEM`s are doing this in smaller and same size laptops with smaller or same size heatsinks.
    I.E - R7 6800H + RX 6650M XT, R9 6900HX + RX 6700M. Preferably, an R9 6980HX + RX 6850M XT - Then we`ll truly have a 4K 60-120Hz Gaming Mini PC.

    Was waiting for this one because of the USB4 support, but two things I miss here:
    1. They should have upgraded to a slightly stronger GPU. Both the 6700M and 6800M don't use that much more power and slightly better cooling was probably possible.
    2. They should have gone with one of the much more common ones, for example the 330w one that has been in use by many big brands for several years.

      I think the issue with going to a 6700M and 6800M is cost and or availability of these chips. We've seen 6600M desktop GPUs on ali but not 6700Ms or 6800Ms and there's probably a reason for that, either excessive supply of 6600M's or low availability of 6700/6800M's.

    • @markus.schiefer
      @markus.schiefer Год назад

      @@kajurn791 Yeah, I noticed that AMD failed to properly supply even notebook producers with those chips and it was even worse for for the SFF market. On the other hand I expected this to have been resolved by now, but who knows.
      Lets hope AMD can offer better supply with the upcoming RX7000 line, though we have to see how many will turn out to be RDNA3 and not just rebranded RDNA1 and 2.

    Now THIS is a mini pc worth getting. Playing Cyberpunk on high settings is a mimimum. Sounds like you might even be able to bump up to ultra settings with FSR on and at a very very attractive price range. I just wish there was an NVIDIA version since NVIDIA handles raytracing better.

      Depends on the generation.
      I LOVE the Beelink GTR5 5900HX because it has dual 2.5 GbE NICs built-in.
      Yes, I know that there are newer systems that has this as well, but that was one of the first (if not the only) system at the time that had it.
      Unfortunately, the Beelink GTR6 6900HX does NOT have dual 2.5 GbE NICs anymore, so that's a bummer.
      I can't remember if there was a mini PC that sports the 6900HX processor AND dual 2.5 GbE NICs. I think that there was one, but I can't remember what it was called, but I do vaguely recall it being more expensive though.
      (Whereas, I think that the Beelink GTR5 5900HX that I bought at the time, might have only been something like $649. I forget.)
      And I only bought the Beelink system because I actually originally bought a Minisforum HX90 system, and installed my own RAM and NVMe SSD in it, and it started having severe stability issues after about a month or so (maybe not even that), so that got RMA'd back to Minisforum.
      (Plus, I also found that the Minisforum I think ran hotter, took more power, and got lower performance vs. the Beelink GTR5 5900HX when I was running Cinebench R15. (older, I know, but since I'm just trying to stress the CPU, its age isn't super relevant).)
      So yeah...
      If I were to try and buy a new mini PC right now, I would still be trying to look for one that sports dual 2.5 GbE NICs, but that's just me and how I am using my systems.

    16 GB of dual channel DDR4 3000 ram
    About 1.4 TB of storage across multiple NVME and SSD drives
    An old GTX 1060 3GB
    Cheap but big aerocool A500 case
    With that in mind, if i had the money, i'd swap my current pc with the one you reviewed in no time, i've always been a fan of these small yet powerful computers that in this case, not only is powerful, but cool too!
    Checked the pricing on their website, they're below 1000$ price tag which i don't find exactly expensive for what it is, especially when considering price tags these days!
    I also cringe when i think that you can basically have this with you anywhere you go, i have a 300 watt inverter in my car that would probably allow me to hook it up to a small 10 inch screen and have a blast in the car too!
    Amazing toy to have IMHO.
