My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

Living my dream - we just got perm residency in the UK (in Bristol if you ever need a tour guide 😅) and are working towards citizenship then we'll be looking ideally for a French city to split our time across!
Totally understand the mindset of thinking small while you have an ongoing immigration process hanging over your head - it can definitely activate your anxiety and causes you to be overly cautious, at least ime.
Here's to us both thinking a little more freely in 2024 and beyond 🎉

really interesting angle on how local Paris and London are, and this too has been my discovery although I'm the opposite in direction. A Londoner been learning French for a year and visited Paris 4 times in 10 months, exactly because I want to explore my neighbouring city. I'm not a tourist, I don't need to see the touristy sights. It's about meeting people, trying to uncover people and a culture, the different angles on the familiar, layer by layer and get new angles on people and myself from each visit. But so much better when done with, and meeting friends. My greatest discovery about myself is, unlike many, I hate travelling alone.

On the most important point of comparison - food, of course - I feel like dining in London (unless you're eating Asian food) is kind of a waste of time if you're expecting greatness. Unlike America, the cultures and languages change rapidly from country to country. Where as in the US, the language stays the same (with local colloquialisms changing) but the culture also changes- except in many ways it also stays the same.

Yet almost nobody is interested in visiting anywhere other than Paris. I find it baffling, but most people have told me that they are only interested in Paris. I’ve also talked to friends and family and they only want to visit Paris. I get the impression that for most Americans France is only Paris.
