My favorite part is at 13:55 when you say that it's 12:12 and it brought my attention to the fact that the clock behind you is wrong. Then it brought my attention to the fact that the clock behind you is not working at all. #fashionclock #aestheticlock

I'm a yankee born and raised but then I moved to the South and became a Sunday school teacher. After my first class, one of my students and friends pulled me aside and said, "You're in the South now and you talk way too fast. You need to slow it down because we can't listen that fast." Becki, you have the same problem. You're trying to instruct us on something technical and while the information is great, it's difficult to follow you when I feel like I'm always a sentence behind because I'm still trying to process the information.

First of all new Subscriber from Zambia!!!
I literally edited my first video yesterday using an online editor called "Clip Champ" and all I did was cut out a clip from a concert I attended. But I was so happy and proud that it removed the fear of not being able to create videos for a RUclips channel.
This video was so so helpful, and a full series detected to organising your files, workflow, working with audio and editing will be truly appreciated.
Thanks for sharing this valuable information and all the best in everything you do.

Wow, guys! You two are amazing. I came over recently from Peter. Becki, you really know your stuff when it comes to this.
I vlog myself so I know how much time it takes, especially in post. But I think you probably spend about 2-3x the amount of time I do in post production. And it shows. What I'm most surprised about though is the amount of time you spend on audio editing. I do it within Premiere so I can't say how long I spend but damn you guys have so much attention to detail for every single element of the video.
Your videos are awesome and inspiring to other creators!

Awesome video! Lots covered in a short amount of time. Would love to learn more about the three adjustment layers for color grading. Wanted to touch on your “audio” part though. I am an audio engineer, and though I deal with music more than dialogue, I have to say your audio is great. As far as the stuff like “the hanger having echo,” or what not. There are ways to fix this! I’m not savvy with Audition, and though I plan to learn it, I cannot comment on what’s available within Audition that you can use to remedy this (can update when I dive in). I guarantee there are things, just not familiar enough to give a detailed explanation. Some basics for audio though, and this may be redundant (and I only say it because it was not discussed), always high pass your clips. Eliminates rumble and such from moving things, things moving, etc. It seems that you do this, as I don’t notice abrasive rumble, but again, nothing personal. You crossfade everything which is superb. Level matching your audio is considered “normalizing”, which is perfect for what you’re doing. Dealing with outside noise that interferes with context. This rule applies everywhere, including what you’re doing which you obviously practice, but best to get it right at the source. Something simple would be using lavalieres; though they’re Omni directional, they’re so close to your person that echoing or whatever else does not become apparent (good signal to “noise” so to speak). They’re not that cheap, but long term they’re stellar. With stuff like the hanger, you could using something like a transient designer. Simple ones will allow you to adjust the attack and sustain. In that instance, you would be pulling down the sustain, or the echo as it would be interpreted as such [sustain]. Another approach is using something like Izotope RX. Allows you to pinpoint sounds and frequency ranges (RT times as well, which applies to echos), and pull them out. Problem there is it’s expensive. Great plugin that presumably works with Audition, but I’m not too familiar. A compressor can also work. Though the usual ideal of a compressor is to control peaks, it can be used to shape transients (like a transient designer) to bring out parts you want, and “turn down” (compress) parts you don’t. Something with a slow attack and medium release could allow speech to come through, while grabbing echos and bringing them down. A NON post production way to address this though, is to walk around the hanger clapping slowly. Find a spot where the echo is the least. Avoid being close to walls and corners (and perfectly square rooms- creates standing waves and nulls) as they reflect sound or trap low end frequencies which will resonate. Usually mics for cameras are shotgun mics. Meaning they’re VERY directionally. Face the back (and sides.. back/side) at reflective surfaces that will cause an echo. Remember that even if the back (and sides toward back) of the mic reject the most, if it’s close enough to a wall, and you’re close enough for the camera to pick you up accurate, you’re most likely reflecting your speech against that wall moreso than not, meaning it has a better chance of getting back in to that mic. There are quite a few other ways to approach this but.. with all that being said, I honestly thing the echoes add realism to the scenario. You’re in a hanger.. it’s expected. I understand you obviously want what you’re saying to come across, but it does. I know this is lengthy, but you put in the time to create such an elaborate video (and all your videos!); always looking to help. Hopefully nothing’s redundant here. Just remember, if it sounds good, or suits the setting, it is good. *edit* wanted to touch on the limiter.. that’s perfect. But if it’s blowing out the limiter (3 or 6 or 9 dB), just turn down that clip! It’s okay if it bumps it, that’s the point, but if nothing is hitting the limiter, then one clip smashes the limiter, just turn that clip down. And make sure your output level is set to -.01 to -.03. This will keep it from clipping other people’s (and potentially RUclips’s?) audio conversion.

OK SO I just found your channel. This is the first video I think of yours I've ever watched.
You have just changed my editing forever... I think haha. So for as long as I've been editing videos I've always had a super hard time mastering my audio (especially because it's vlog audio). I would literally spend hours editing every single clip of audio by adjusting the gain and making sure they are all the same level (usually around -6db). But now seeing how you do it in audition and what seems like a one click wonder solution to leveling out your audio, if it works like I hope it will, it will save me SOOOOOOO much time and headache! If you could do a video about your exact audition workflow and maybe explaining why you choose to do what you do that would be AMAZING! Literally no one else on the internet explains how to do it!
Anyways thank you for this and I look forward to future content from you two :)

man, you put a lot more work into it then I will. I'll just shoot some footage on my gopro, put them into a dated folder that I like with a timestamp on the range that I want. Then I dump them into final cut pro x and piece it together. but I guess that's the different between 2500 subs and 25,000 subs :)
