Slovenia had never had a Tour de France champion, now they had two riders to vie for the honor of being the first Slovenian to win the Tour de France. Primoz Roglic had a lead of 57 seconds on fellow Slovenian Tadej Pogacar going into the final Time trial stage and the favorite. The former junior world champion ski jumper was now in position to win the Tour de France. Primoz was considered a superior time trialist over Tadej so the confidence that Jumbo Visma felt was all encompassing.
