Indeed. Extremely clear thinking that clarifies so many concepts. And as soon as you understand what he is saying you say "oh yeah, that makes so much sense".

I found your comments on post-modernism to be very helpful in wrestling with what bothered me about liberal identity politics and political labeling without material analysis and class consciousness.
Your lectures give a wonderful life to these texts and concepts. Thank you so much for sharing them.

The remaining contradiction is that Marx thought that idealism only meant that inherited ideology was primary but missed the part of Kant (and Plato) that sensory perception is also generated by psycho-biology. This is why so many modern Marxists conflate 'material world' with 'empirical phenomena'.
A modern understanding of the 'physical' world would include the mathematical generalisations of physics, which are not phenomenological or directly empirical. Because of this, the ultimate universal scientific reality can only be expressed in ideal terms. Plato's general idealist orientation was correct.
This does not undermine Marx's scientific analysis of capitalism. Rather, it only points to the fact that empirical phenomena are just as much psychological as biological and physical. The materialist/idealist dichotomy leads to unnecessary arguments. It also leads people away from reading philosophers like Plato because of a label of 'Idealist'.
Plato was a great proponent of the idea that society emerges from the natural needs and interdependence of people.

I think you are a bit misunderstanding Marxism for vulgar materialism. I'd recommend Lenin's Materialism and Empirio-criticism.

Engels first name is Friedrich, he was German. If you want to anglisize first names, the Carl, not Karl, understood?

10:10 this is somehow an overwrought and reductive position simultaneously. There is no collective impetus behind “postmodernism” in terms of telos. Like many others, you engage in strawfigure construction and affect a cargo cultist’s stance on the subject.
For instance, you are conflating skepticism/incredulity in the face of metanarrative with rejection of same. This is an intellectual failure so common it’s essentially a cliche at this point.
There may well be some people who articulate these asinine ideas (ending the word ‘race’ will end racism, exploring gender will eliminate it etc), but to assume they represent the collective baseline of postmodern theory is to fail in two directions: firstly, there is no collective baseline, and secondly, postmodern analysis can only be determined as such retrospectively.
Nietzsche challenged the very notions of good and evil as actually-existing legitimate constructs. He wasn’t attempting to end good and evil nor was he about the project of ending constructs themselves. But his skepticism in the face of those metanarrative marks that aspect of his analysis as postmodern. Will you go so far as to call him a postmodernist? How silly.
Your recitation of Marx and Engels is competent enough, perhaps you’d do well to avoid editorializing outside of your wheelhouse.

Thank you for your comment. Agree to disagree on post-modernism. I will do more series on Pomo thought taking them individually. Perhaps then we can have a more nuanced discussion on it. Warmest regards and keep sending me your excellent feedback.
