  • @CurtisOnYoutube

The ending really fascinated me as well. I always liked to think maybe that joker does have a Batman at the end of the movie. Joker never clearly has an origin so was what we watched was just one of his many fantasies. Like while In Arkham he toyed with the idea that what if he was the one who created the Batman and how funny that would be.
The whole age gap between him and Bruce in the movie would make him an older guy when Bruce became Batman. It’s fun that the movie kind of lets you have your own fantasies about what is going on kinda like Joker haha.
I guess we will have to wait for the second one to maybe get more to the bottom of things!

Just wanted to say that in reference to your reaction to the scene where Arthur is first meeting with his therapist, as someone on a lot of psych meds as well, that's not necessarily indicative of your mental stability. The meds have to be constantly managed, dosages checked and adjusted, etc. And even that can't always magically fix things, especially when there's trauma. It takes a herculean effort to right a sinking ship, and in cases like Arthur where his resources just dried up, well...I mean he really didn't have much of a chance at getting better. It's no wonder he spiraled. Of course, mental illness is never an excuse for bad behavior and/or criminal activity, but it can certainly help explain it.

I like tho think that someone most likley kid from bad family in the crowd at the end saw him and got inspired to become the Joker in the actual story with Batman since they should be close age whise not 30+ years gap.Joaquin performance is aboslutely incredible it makes you feel uncomfortable but also feel sympathy and even being happy for him for a bit, my favorite scenese are the time he danced in the bathrom after his first kill trying to process what happened and also when he got out of the train after he did his first actually typical Joker move to prompt people to fight and kill the policeman while being fully aware

First of all, let me tell you I loved your reaction, you had such an intelligent, interesting, fun commentary on it and an entertaining, genuine reaction, overall great video, (as always, of course).
I've been following you for a while, I just don't know why I didn't get this notification or I didn't notice you releasing this video a while back, I just watched it. Great as per usual.
I just have a few comments in regards of the movie about things you might have not gotten or you didn't get at first probably as well as things that are impossible to guess without some prior contextual knowledge.
Well, talking about the Batman-Joker age difference, the ages portrayed for Arthur's and Bruce's characters in the movie are in fact pretty much in line with the actual ages of, for example Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson's Batman & Joker or Adam West and George Romero's iterations for example, so it would fit the timeline if it was similar to that of those DC universes.
In regards of Arthur's origin/parents the ending is open ended (as mentioned by Todd Phillips), one could say that since Penny Fleck had mental issues she could be making all of that up in her mind since she has many problems and has suffered through a lot, including abusive relationships which she is in denial of; but on the other hand this could all be a setup to cover Thomas Wayne's relationship with Penny, first of all because he doesn't want the rumour of an affair to tarnish his prestige and name in Gotham as well as in the industry and also because he doesn't want to be linked in any possible way to a mentally ill woman or that someone can suspect of it, that's why he fired her in the first place, even moreso now that he's running for a public charge or positioning himself for a pre-candidate position in an upcoming election.
It is possible that Thomas Wayne did father Arthur and with his power, money and connections he hid it all, besides this, the doctor you see interviewing and filling the forms with Penny is Dr. Stoner who is one of the most vile, criminal and corrupt higher ups at Arkham at that time, he would take bribes and accept money to beat up and put criminals and mental patients in terrible conditions, mess with people's minds and deprive them of food, water, medicine, basic needs, so it's not an outrageous thought that he could have accepted money to erase Penny's records and fill her file with different information, mess with her mind and lock her up for a time there.
There are also other hints in the movie, like the adoption papers, which were much less worn, wrinkled, aged, than the other documents on Penny's expedients and records (which could be a way of saying that it was a much later added document to her file or a forgery) and also the picture signed T.W. which was on Penny's dresser which Arthur wrinkles in his hand towards the end. Those are just a couple of examples of this.
Besides this, talking about Arthur's condition, it is said (not specified) that he has multiple metal conditions (which were intentionally made difficult to tell apart in the script) and one of them was the laughter condition Arthur experiences and that is a real nervous system and mental health condition called Pseudobulbar Affect, you can look it up yourself so you don't take my word for granted.
I also think this is a great movie that reflects the downward spiral of a person brought down by society, beaten down by the upper classes and left to fend for himself with no-one to rely on, to care for him nor to show him the right path through life, it's pretty sad and shocking and it's exactly what it should be, what a raw movie or a Joker movie should be. Also, well, Joaquin Phoenix's interpretation was amazing, he rightfully deserved every ounce of that Oscar he got.
Sorry for the long comment, I hope this is of some help to you or that you find something new or interesting, also, again, excellent, amazing reaction to a movie that is barely reacted or talked about even to this day. Thanks a bunch man!!!

Actually the director has stated in the past that you can tell what really happened to what was in his head by a few things, one being the things that were absurdly Too good to be true like Arthur on the Murray Franklin show at the beginning of the movie, the relationship with his female neighbor, when Randall tells Arthur you know your my boy, and the color grading and back lighting during the hard to believe happy moments. Todd Phillips also said the studio has instructed him to answer the question of did he kill his neighbor with he didn’t kill her.

Another piece of evidence that points at the "Thomas Wayne cover-up" theory is Dr. Benjamin Stoner. He's Arkham Hospital's head doctor, and in this movie, when Arthur reads Penny Fleck's Arkham Hospital file, he's shown in the flashback to when she was committed there--and that's that. However, in various DC comics, he's shown to be rotten to the core, more than willing to accept an innocent woman like Penny into his "care" if the price were right (which, given who'd be paying him, it obviously would be).

"I used to think that my life was a tragedy, but now I realize, it's a fucking comedy."
Although a great movie, I consider Heath Ledger's Joker the best cinematic Joker to date. Joaquin Phoenix's Joker works for this movie and this movie only. "The Clown Prince Of Crime" is something I wouldn't call Joaquin Phoenix's Joker. That might change in the sequel, but he hasn't earned that title yet.
Fun Fact: The premiere of the film at the Venice Film Festival drew an eight-minute standing ovation.
Keeping It Real Fact: In a deliberate attempt to keep the budget down there are almost no CGI effects shots in this film. One of the very few is the scene where Arthur Fleck walks towards the building named Arkham Asylum in his attempt to look at his mothers medical records. This scene was CGI enhanced but otherwise most of this films effects were either practical or created in camera.
Killer Joke Fact: Joaquin Phoenix called perfecting the Joker's laugh the toughest part of playing the character. Pathological laughter is a real-life disorder which causes that the patient suffers of uncontrollable laugh attacks as response for tense or stress situations. Although isn't usual, these attacks can stop the normal flux of oxygen to the brain or lungs, causing hypoxia or even asphyxia in the patient.

Even in this movie, they did in a sense. Batman's dad contributed heavily to the creation of Joker, while the Joker and the chaos he created heavily contributed to the creation of Batman.

We see that all of Aurther's life has been nothing but unfortunate events, however towards the end we see that once he embraces himself or the chaos, a drastic shift in events take place. Him escaping the police, a car hitting the police allowing him to escape, further chaos at the mental hospital.

For those who don’t know how Child Protection Services works. If the biological parent of a child is abusive and is taken from them they can serve their time in jail then get out and perform community service and take domestic violence classes and everything else the court system requires before they would consider returning a child to you. However if you adopted a child and they are taken from you due to violence or abuse the adopted child is taken from you and you will never see that child again. And your adoption privileges will be permanently revoked so you don’t go and adopt anymore children. They will also hide the identity of the child from you and his location for the safety of the child. So since Arthur was in fact returned to Penny that means she can’t be an adoptive parent or guardian, she has to be his biological mother.

Maybe I'm not sure about that either but it's very possible.

The rioters aren’t for joker the rioters are a result of them being called clowns, Arthur believes the rioters are following him when in reality they could careless about Arthur and are protesting against Thomas Wayne. The best part is that your led to feel bad for Arthur the whole movie but if you feel bad for Arthur then you actually sympathize with murders who are mentally I’ll that society deems evil in the real world

Yup. It's hard not to sympathize with Arthur that's for sure. :)

I love the symbolism when he’s moving upward “ascending” those stairs and is all slumped over. But after he lets it all go and is descending he is dancing and is happy. Finding the darkness is what he always wanted. Also, some people think everything after he crawled into the refrigerator was a dream and he died in the fridge.

The descent to madness is a real thing. He hopes up the stairs when hes trying to be norman. When he accepts who he is he dances down the steps to his own insanity.

19:00 it was in this moment of the movie, i realized that arthur was imagining the woman, why? because where is her daugther? in the comedy club, it was premeditated, which means, she could have paned and left her daugther with someone, but in here, it was out of a sudden she wouldnt have time to get a nany, and therefore, she wouldnt be in a hospital wighout taking her daugther with her

What can I say about the JOKER character? UNPREDICTABLE, for sure. Anyone who has read the comics and seen the movies knows he has no morals, zero dignity. JOAQUIM PHOENIX captured the character as JACK NICHOLSON and HEATH LEDGER captured the character, and HEATH seems to have suffered from the character's curse and passed away after a while, unfortunately.

ARTHUR or JOKER seemed like two people in one body to me, but one was calm and the other was about to go out and cause chaos. ARTHUR's life was so miserable that when he found out about his mother's love relationship with Thomas Wayne, Arthur had died at that moment and Joker appeared. Any trace of humanity was gone. Almost everyone who humiliated him was his target, especially MURRAY.

There is a scene that was cut from the movie for being too violent, where he actually kills his neighbor and her daughter.
    Instead it's left as implied.

If you think about it Bruce was just a child when the Joker was a full grown man. Therefore Batman was beating the shit out of a geriatric Joker.

I personally like to think heath ledgers joker was disgruntled ex military and an abuse child that took inspiration from the Arthur flecks story from what wouldve been when he was a kid a heaths joker decides to continue the prince of chaos in his own way.
