  • Why do perfumers love Patchouli as a fragrance note?
    I love understanding where things commence; it brings context and heightens my enjoyment of the thing in question. Take Patchouli; why is this aromatic shrub loved by perfumers? And why do we love wearing patchouli perfumes....does it posses some kind of sexual magnetism?
    If you love (or even unsure about) Patchouli in your perfume then I would recommend to you Perris Monte Carlo's Patchouli Nosy Be; this fragrance is exceptional and incredibly unique.
    This fragrance is part of the BLACK COLLECTION within the Perris Monte Carlo range and Gian Luca Perris has stayed true to his mission on 'respecting the note'.

    Also I just discovered this fragrance and it is as outstanding as it is reasonably priced. It is big and bold but in a restrained way, which I understand is an oxymoron, but it is what it is. I get a delicious patchouli with the right amount of chocolate. There is also vanilla but that doesn’t show up until the next morning. It is the perfect fragrance for me. I smell it all day and into the next day but I can sit next to people at the opera and not gas them out as one would with say Megamare lol.

    Phenomenal piece on an amazing fragrance. I often am not a fan of most patchouli based fragrances however I ordered a discovery set from lucky scent when this collection came out I believe in 2015 . I was drawn into this one as it was very alluring and so unique in how it developed into a very sultry and exotic aroma that I had to have in my collection. Very nice for spring and summer and even fall it works well also .

    As far as the French is concerned....
    "Ça cocotte" (where "ça" is is pronounced "sah") is not really used. We would say more "Ça sent la cocotte" (it smells "cocotte") or "Ça pue la cocotte" (it stinks of cocotte).

    Thank you Marcello for this very interesting video about patchouli ."ça cocotte" means "it smells bad", but it refers more particularly, indeed, to bad perfumes, "cocotte" being a synonym for the obnoxiously perfumed "demi-mondaines" you're talking about, high end very exclusive prostitutes famous in the end of the XIXth/beginning of the XXth century. I was born in 1971 and like many people of my generation I probably have more or less conscious bad memories of people (and hippie stores) drenched in bad quality patchouli, that's why I still dislike seventies style patchouli based fragrances. Yet I discovered in my fragrance journey that although I still don't feel comfortable wearing very patchouli-centric perfumes I can appreciate a lot of compositions wich contain that beautiful ingredient.

    • @TheNicheFragranceCollector
      @TheNicheFragranceCollector  Год назад +1

      Always love your comments @alizarine11 and appreciate you confirming how "ça cocotte" is used. Yes interesting how the hippie era really gave patchouli a bad rap...a few other subscribers have made the same comments as you.

    Ylang Ylang Nosy Be is my jam.

    • @caseyplunkett6083
      @caseyplunkett6083 Год назад +1

      @@TheNicheFragranceCollector Yellow Floral facets are probably my favorite olfactory attribute. When there's an ambery - slightly sweet back bone with ylang or frangipani whipping through, I find such a scent to be divine. Obviously Ylang-Ylang Nosy Be ticks these boxes. Unlike most fragrancs in this niche genre Ylang Nosy Be projects quite well and has good longevity. It's a rich scent that somehow still works in the Intense heat!
      Some others that fit this mold and why Perris Monte Carlo may be the best of the bunch:
      Intense Taire (Montale) is more synthetic (albeit it still smooth and not abrasive to the palate) just isn't as naturally intriguing as Ylang - Nosy Be and I don't get the natural Vanilla accents.
      Oud Jaune Intense smells absolutely amazing but obviously costs a pretty penny and at least with my chemistry sits very close to the skin.
      -My recent acquisition is *Kiss Me Intense by Parfums Nicolai. This fragrance smells the best by far imo. Tropical florals with Heliotrope and a sweet musky base. The top notes of of lemon and anise are very unique and somehow last substantially quite long. This scent is so intriguing in the way that I just have to keep smelling it throughout the wearing. However it does sit closer to the skin whereas previously mentioned Ylang Nosy Be projects quite well. As a side note; Perris Monte Carlo and Parfums de Nicolai are currently my favorite brands as the quality of juice considering the price is mind-boggling. Not to mention I'm really fond of the classic sleek bottles that both brands utilize. You've commented to this in your video of the Perris M-C boutique.
      In closing,
      Ylang Ylang Nosy Be may have a tiny resemblance of sun tan lotion but I believe this is simply an association the brain creates when trying to find familiarity to previous experience (which is a natural instinct). This association doesn't detract from the quality of the fragrance but actually invokes thoughts of intriguing tropical destinations and pleasurable memories of vacations past. It is a transportive scent that especially on initial spray I feel as though I'm actually taken on a journey alongside the creative director and perfumer to that little island off of the Morrocan Coast.
      Take care Marcelo

I have another compatible fragrance that I got from Kingdom Fragrances in their Castle Collection from the house of Mr. Wood Paris called "Nuit et Merveilles a Murano" which is like Nosy Be, but not as sweet and much darker in its patchouli presentation. I made the comparison that, in terms of fictional figures, Bruce Wayne -- Batman -- would wear the Nuit et Merveilles (because of its sophistication, darkness, mystery, and intrigue) whereas Tony Stark -- Iron Man -- would wear the Nosy Be (because of its playfulness with chocolate, sweetness, allure, and sexiness).

    I need to keep up with you more because I realize that you are offering niche fragrances that nobody else has...and I mean nobody, and you got something special going on here. I watch over 15 frag reviewers and none of them outside one has some of the selections you have (The Bow Tie Fragrance Guy)

      Awesome to read your comments @DOUBLE - SCOOP, makes me happy. I know that some of the fragrance's I share might not be 'hyped' but they're incredible and want to shine a light on them because I know that other niche lovers will enjoy them too.
      Thanks again for reaching out and very much appreciate your support👊🏽
