Thank you for this video. The pomegranate juice in the Super is like $18 (that was last year's price), so I bought a pomegranate fruit out of curiosity and cut it open, saw a bunch of seeds. Where's the fruit? Looked up "How to eat a pomegranate". However I still got red stains all over my desk, shirt, even my glasses. They don't ripen after they are picked, so unless you have them growing on a tree, you are at the mercy of what is in the store. While at the store pick the ones that are darker in color, have more of a squarish shape, heavier for their size, and sound dense. That will help you pick the best ones out of the bunch. :)
@@inthekitchenwithmatt thanks! That is so helpful and I will share it with the friend who gave me the pomegranate! Your video of how to cut it is wonderful, and even though my pomegranate was not really ripe enough, I was still able to use your method to get some pretty tasty seeds for a nice evening dessert!
The ripe fruits will be slightly angular and no longer round, the blossom ends will be fatter, the skin texture will be slightly rough instead of super smooth.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt - Hi, Matt, thanks for this! I'm just reviewing my un-schooled approach to these guys - cut randomly in quarters, then cut the quarters in half and pop the seeds of each piece out. Of course, what happens doing that is you end up cutting through many of the juicy seeds in the process...and there are sticky pom juice drops flying all over the place, what a mess! Gonna try this more refined method on my next one, lol. I do have a question for you - if you end up with pomegranates that are round and smooth (ie not quite ripe), will they continue to ripen as many fruits do if you leave them out, or will they just eventually just dry out?
Yes definitely try it like this you don't cut through any of the arils! Way less messy haha. And no sorry they don't continue ripening off the tree. So hopefully wherever you buy them, they were picked at peak ripeness. @@AbsentWithoutLeaving
At my local supermarket they are $4.50 each here in Australia where everything is expensive! I’ll look at my local Asian grocery because I really want to try pomegranate looks delicious
Yep prices will vary depending on where you live but also the time of year. The peak season is middle to late November through December so you may see the prices go down a bit more.
So glad you tried one, Stacey! I was at the supermarket a few weeks ago and they have jumbo ones for $3.99 they were bigger than my hand haha. So that is not a bad price at all. I can sometimes find them for $.99 when they are on sale.
I never tried them, but wanted to. I've been keeping an eye out for them in the grocery store. Just saw them today. I picked up a couple. I'm in the mid-atlantic area and they were $3.29 each. Followed your process to open them. I tried eating the seeds, but most of them were too hard to chew. It was like they had a inner seed. What I could chew was delicious. I'm thinking the pomegranates weren't ripe enough. Your thoughts?
yeah it is possible they weren't ripe enough. You can just chew around them and split them out or juice them. But normally you should be able to eat the whole seed without much issue. :)
Thanks for the great video! I haven't had one in years!! I saw some the other day and had to get some! I had no idea how to clean them. I would just cut into quartered sections and eat away. This is very helpful!! Thanks!😉👍❤

Delicious. I got 3 at my supermarket for $10. Thanks for the video.
Awesome!! You are welcome!
How do you know when a pomegranate is ripe enough to cut into?
@@ninagrey4579 You are very welcome!! :) Glad the video was helpful. :)
Any tips on how to spot the good fruits? You know, like with avocados where you would be looking for dark skin and slight softness.
@@inthekitchenwithmatt - Thanks for the reply! 😘
Welcome!@@AbsentWithoutLeaving
Have many of them here. I love them - not to remove the seeds but yes to eat them with a spoon :)
That is great you can get them there. Yes they are so delicious! I am happy I have another to eat before returning to the store to get more. lol
You make me so happy, I love your videos 😭
Thank you! Glad you liked them. :)
At my local supermarket they are $4.50 each here in Australia where everything is expensive! I’ll look at my local Asian grocery because I really want to try pomegranate looks delicious
They can get that expensive here in Phoenix as well, but down as low as $1.25 during peak season.
$1?!? Mine are $3.78 at target or $2.50 at HEB in Texas
Yep prices will vary depending on where you live but also the time of year. The peak season is middle to late November through December so you may see the prices go down a bit more.
Pomegranates seem to be available in fall to late fall. I read that they have a long shelf life, but how do you store them to last the longest?
Store them in the refrigerator for 1 to 2 months.
Thank you. I am not familiar with these and wondered if I was supposed to “eat” the seeds LOL. I guess the take away is that pomegranate is seeds.
You are welcome!!
Thanks. I had never known how to eat a pomegranate. I didn't know if you ate the seeds or the flesh or what. I'll try it now.
You are very welcome! :)
The seeds tastes like coconut juice. So delicious, it's like going from one fruit to another in the same mouth. Can the crushed seeds be swallowed?
Yes you can eat the seeds! :)
@@inthekitchenwithmatt
I mean can I swallow the masticated seed? Thank you
@@graceolaitan2126 Yes you can swallow the seeds. They are rich in fiber.
is it safe to eat the seeds ?
Yes!
you have chosen a great knife..good ol' Cutco Trimmer.
oh yeah! gotta love my Cutco knives!
They are soo good! Got one today for a price of $2, usually $2.50 per so I decided to give it a try (live in NZ btw). Thanks for the helpful video!
So glad you tried one, Stacey! I was at the supermarket a few weeks ago and they have jumbo ones for $3.99 they were bigger than my hand haha. So that is not a bad price at all. I can sometimes find them for $.99 when they are on sale.
Okay. Hi. My first time eating this amazing fruit. Im a picky eater. I find it not bad at all. Thank you. Have a bless day
Hi Anna! Glad you gave it a try and liked it. Have a blessed day as well.
Haven't had any since I was a little girl, my daughter got me some a few days ago and they are still delicious
Awesome! Yeah one of my favorite fruits.
Thanks for the great video! I haven't had one in years!! I saw some the other day and had to get some! I had no idea how to clean them. I would just cut into quartered sections and eat away. This is very helpful!! Thanks!😉👍❤
You are very welcome! So glad the video was helpful for you. :)
