The darker the red the sweeter the pomegranate. If u hold the pomegranate in your hand you can squash the seeds within the inside from the outside. Once it's really soft. You can puncture a small hole and drink the pomegranate. The thick skin prevents it from being messy when squeezing it. The light color from my experience of eating a lot of them aren't well developed but the dark blood red are really sweet. Pomegranates are great energy booster and also give you great smooth. Blemish free skin.
There are varieties of white-pink pomegranates that are the sweetest and taste like sugar cane. These ones are more tender than the red pomegranates and much sweeter.
My neighborhood has a pomegranate tree 😍 it was HUGE this year and I just noticed that it was pruned back to tiny lolol. People have been neglecting the fruit tho and now, they’re all split from being too ripe 😭 I just grabbed one that split and I’m currently putting the seeds into water for germination 😍 I’m so excited lolol
@@GrowingInTheGardenfor germination, any idea which seeds are better?? Some are floating and others are sinking. There’s also some pink, some white. Should I be tossing one or the other right off the bat? Thanks in advance 🥰 was also super curious about the bugs 😳 so interesting and great info!!!
they are soooooo expensive! the bigger ones go for $5 each (if not higher here in new york)! we need more farms growing them here in the States. people like them, but there aint enough of them to go around. oh, when i was a kid, we had an "accidental" pomegranate tree that grew at the corner of the yard next to a wall. it grew crazy, loaded with fruits every time. we found out later that the tree had grown next to the septic tank and was using the pasties in there for fertilizer and water!! the fruits would crack open like a flower, into four sections, sweet and tangy, beloved by the local birds. the bugs we killed by sprsying the tree with nicotine, yeah, bunch of cigarate buts soaked in water that we sprayed on the plants. organic and efferctive
Best video ever regarding trimming and the one pest that is hard to get rid of. Do not mistake a leaf-footed bug with a stink bug. These things are hard to get rid of once they get the hard outside body. Neem oil will work on the nymphs. But, if you have an infestation you will need to spray with malathion. Make sure you do it early morning before the bees or late in the day after the bees are gone. Malathion will not kill the bees if sprayed correctly. I recommend you cut all the fruit off. You do not know if they have gotten to the inside of your fruit. Squish the adults as soon as you see them. If you do need to cut off your fruit, get a bucket of soapy water. Drop the fruit into that bucket to drown any bugs on it. Later in the day you can drain the bucket and throw the fruit in a garbage bag and toss in the garbage bin. Important for you to notice in this video exactly what the eggs look like. See the brown rounded log-shaped trails on the branch shown in the picture. That is what you are looking for. They can also be on the backs of the leaves. And they can over-winter in the old fruit. Keep it clean at all times. They can also move to your citrus and prickly pear cactus and even tomatoes and strawberries. But Pomegranate is their very favorite fruit and tree. Again great video and informative.
Thank you! So much great info. I always thought those bugs were protecting my pomegranates! 😱 So I never killed them. 😖 We had tons of pomegranates, guavas, figs, mandarins, and guanabanas last season but ate none! The birds, squirrels, and bugs ate them or damaged them (except the mandarines) indiscriminately. Not this coming season! The trees are pruned and ready to go. I hate netting, but I'm gonna have to this time around. I'll make sure to leave a handful of fruit for our beautiful birds, squirrels, and other critters that come thru our garden.
This information will be handy as I just realized today that I have over 45 Pom seedlings that I seem to have grown from seed. I tossed them in a raised bed last year and they are all over the place now, honestly I didn't know it would be that easy buy I do have two green hands, lol.

Great video. Just planted my first two poms here in north Florida. Have never seen that method to remove the arils. Starting some pomegranate in our greenhouse. We had a bush at our old homestead but it never got higher than four feet. I think it’s because it was under a pine tree. We got some new pomegranate from a friend that says these are a tasty breed. The old one was at 4500 feet the new one will be at 5200 and we do get snow but rarely go down to 20F. Here it will get full sun for sure. Here’s to hoping for fruit in the future. 😁
Thank you for a very informative video. About 3 years ago I planted some seeds from a store bought pomegranate. Guess what - THEY GREW!!! My problem, was me, I didn't know where to plant them, in my yard, that they wouldn't end up a 6 foot round stalky bush, which seems to be what grows well in this area of West Texas. One beautiful seedling is still growing in a very small shallow pot. I joked that I should just turn it into a Bonsai. I'm thrilled to know I can shape this beautiful plant and therefore finally plant it where I wanted to all along. I have no idea what variety it might be, however the seed was from a very nice red pomegranate. I look forward to finally being able to watching it develop into the tree, instead of a wild looking bush.
Thank you for the thorough teaching. I have 2 shrubs that are just beginning to produce. I should have pruned more but just learning. I live in south central florida and am just happy they are still alive!
Thank you. You have inspired me to grow cantaloupes. Now, I have very sweet tasting and large organic cantaloupes. I think the sweet part is from my soil because all my vegetables are very sweet. Always enjoy your video of how to in everything plantings and gardening.

This is such a great video! Thank you for sharing! I have two baby parfianka’s that arrived in 2020 in beautiful condition and are still looking great. I can’t decide if I will keep them as a bush or prune them into a tree form next year. They’re looking great in Oklahoma in full sun and took the winter freeze without damage.

I grew up with a mature pomegranate tree in backyard and it produced so many pomegranates we could never keep up with picking and eating it all. Very bushy tree with flexible long branches.
This is an excellent video I live in Vietnam and I’m thinking of getting one either for my balcony or my roof. My balcony has shade but my roof doesn’t. It’s good to know that it doesn’t need shade as I can grow one on the roof
I am software engineer and a farmer as well, here in India, we do not let the plant grow more than 6 feet and we frequently prune it to maintain 6 feet height, and the results are so awesome, the frequency/quality of fruits improves so drastically. Please give your thoughts on this
I'm in California Z9, had a small orchard of poms and that's what I did, top off at 6ft. Had it on drip system along with the almonds and apples. The entire valley farmers top off thier fruiting and nut trees.
That was an extremely informative video! I am getting ready to order a couple of trees (delivered as bare-root) at the absolute worst time of year (blazing midsummer Z9B!), but I think (Hope!) I can pot them up and keep them safe for a few months. Thanks for sharing!
Helpful, thanks for sharing. I bought a house with a good size pomegranate tree in the yard so I've been researching. Seems like the fruit is pretty sweet even when the arils are pink.
Thank you for this awesome video you definitely answered every question I have been wanting to get answers about my 1st ever pomegranate tree that my wife had been bugging me for ever to grow one for her thanks again .
Thank you. Great video. Concise, well organized, and to the point. I was given a pomegranate tree start at a seed swap, and I wasn't told which variety it is, so I'm going to err on the side of caution and plant it in a big pot so that I can take it into my greenhouse if temps drop too low. I'm assuming once it produces fruit, I will be able to tell what variety it is, but any other help you could offer would be great.
Pomegranate is native to Iran. We do have Pomegranate festival there. There are fruit roll , juice, fresh fruit, even food made out of pomegranate paste. We call it Anaar. My favorite fruit ever.❤ Tgank you for your info. Will pomogranate gives fruit out of seed plant?
My plan with the two varieties I have is to check a fruit once a week, taking careful notes, so that the following year I will know exactly what their particular indications of peak ripeness are. Except, of course, for the birds. LOL
Hi there, the fruits are absolutely beautiful. I live in the same state that you are in . My pomegranate plant is 1 and half year old. I am watering it mostly every day and adding compost to it few times a year. I am not seeing much growth and its still the same size (like when i purchased it). Not sure how can i increase the growth of my plant… the variety that i have is “wonderful”. Can you please suggest me some tips for a health tree?
From seed! I’m so proud of you. I’m trying flowers from seed this year. A first because my budget isn’t like it was during other administrations. Good luck to you & keeping my fingers crossed for me.
Sooooo, I love pomegranate a lot. I always buy them to either eat as is, or use as juice with red hibiscus, which is my favourite drink especially in the month of Ramadan. I have this habit of composting and I just bury kitchen waste, this includes pomegranate seeds. Long story short, I see all these seedlings come up and for the life of me I could not figure out what plant this would be. I since just found out a moment ago, that these are all seedlings from pomegranate! I am talking over 30 of these. Now I live in Dubai, which is either dry arid desert, or super humid, with lots of sunshine. I live in an apartment and these seedlings are all in pots. I would love to line them up in pots all around the balcony, as I get heaps of sunlight and I am super patient so long as I see green and life, I am happy. Any advice for me, considering where I live?
I love your video, please allow closed captions (cc) in this video so other people can translate your video and benefit from your knowledge and experience. Thanks a bunch in advance.

I can’t decide if I will keep them as a bush or prune them into a tree form next year. They’re looking great in Oklahoma in full sun and took the winter freeze without damage.
That's great to know, thanks for sharing.
Love your video no hush hush straight to the point👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 hopefully my wonderful pomegranate will bloom and fruit. No direct sunlight just bright full day. Thank you for the information.🙏
Thanks for watching!
I grew up with a mature pomegranate tree in backyard and it produced so many pomegranates we could never keep up with picking and eating it all. Very bushy tree with flexible long branches.
Thank you for a great video. I just planted my young pomegranate tree yesterday here in California.
Wonderful!
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!! Cant wait to plant pomegranates when I'm in Florida!
Good luck!
She knows what she is talking about. Great video. To the point.
Thanks so much.
This is an excellent video
I live in Vietnam and I’m thinking of getting one either for my balcony or my roof. My balcony has shade but my roof doesn’t. It’s good to know that it doesn’t need shade as I can grow one on the roof
I just juiced three pomegranates I bought from ALDI for 99 cents a piece. They're the same price at Save-A-Lot this week 10/31/21
Great tip, thanks
GREAT pomegranate video! We have 2 volunteer trees and it's great to know to care for them. We live near Bisbee and it will freeze every year here
I’ve got two of pomegranate trees growing well here in Ireland 🇮🇪 😊
I am software engineer and a farmer as well, here in India, we do not let the plant grow more than 6 feet and we frequently prune it to maintain 6 feet height, and the results are so awesome, the frequency/quality of fruits improves so drastically. Please give your thoughts on this
That's good to know. I may try that with one of mine. Thanks for the tip!
I'm in California Z9, had a small orchard of poms and that's what I did, top off at 6ft. Had it on drip system along with the almonds and apples. The entire valley farmers top off thier fruiting and nut trees.
Thank you 😊
Can’t wait to plant a pomegranate tree in the coming weeks. Should hold fine in this Vegas weather. Loved the video, very informative.
Good luck!
Love love this. Straight to the point. A mil tumps up👍👍👍
That was an extremely informative video! I am getting ready to order a couple of trees (delivered as bare-root) at the absolute worst time of year (blazing midsummer Z9B!), but I think (Hope!) I can pot them up and keep them safe for a few months. Thanks for sharing!
Where did you order them from ?
Thank you for this, i eat pommegranite all the time but not the seeds so I been trying to grow little house plants
Pomegranate is so refreshing and nice
Helpful, thanks for sharing. I bought a house with a good size pomegranate tree in the yard so I've been researching. Seems like the fruit is pretty sweet even when the arils are pink.
Thank you for this awesome video you definitely answered every question I have been wanting to get answers about my 1st ever pomegranate tree that my wife had been bugging me for ever to grow one for her thanks again .
Very informative, well presented without wasting time. ...Blessings
Very comprehensive video with excellent information and illustrations. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for the good tips I can't wait to get mine in the ground in the spring ,
You bet! Happy planting.
@@GrowingInTheGarden thank you !
You really packed the video with great information., Angela. I have been worrying about the falling fruits from one year old cutie. You made me cool
Thanks!
Thanks my promgenates too sweet, thanks for sharing your trees look really nice.I havw to trim ours after the season.

So nice of you

Pomegranate is native to Iran. We do have Pomegranate festival there. There are fruit roll , juice, fresh fruit, even food made out of pomegranate paste. We call it Anaar. My favorite fruit ever.❤ Tgank you for your info. Will pomogranate gives fruit out of seed plant?
Wonderful! I haven't tried to grow one from a seed. They do grow very easily from a branch of the tree however.
@@GrowingInTheGarden They grow very easily from the seeds, but I've not gotten flowers or fruit.
Great video! I have been seeing those leaf-footed bug nymphs on my trees before and didn't know what they were.
Glad I could help!
awesome, a great informative video for the pomegranate from seed to fruit, I'm planting a fruit garden, thanks for sharing
Glad it was helpful!
From seed! I’m so proud of you. I’m trying flowers from seed this year. A first because my budget isn’t like it was during other administrations. Good luck to you & keeping my fingers crossed for me.
This was 3 yr ago. How’d you do?
1st off! Thank you and second * sidebar: your hair is GORGEOUS 😊😍
