I love how much you adore dynamo lighting wiring. And hey, I love the hockey stick chain guard, and I love the crappy square headlight!!! I just looked at my, as you know, completely untouched and undisturbed Esquire, and all aspects of your sussed out wiring is spot on. Except my rear light remains on the off side seat stay. I then knew you’d say unpleasant things about the pedals 🤓🤓, but I love them, and so glad to see you refit yours!!! My pedals are silent honest guv 😊
It’ll be no surprise to hear this is my favourite video of the year 🤠. Especially keeping the mudguards original. As you know my view is a few 50 year old authentic scabs looks so much nicer than any other option 👌
The bike had turned out lovely Rowan, the condition of it is amazing and the light upgrade is something I’ve got to look in to myself. My warranty frame Esquire’s lights work nice currently, so I’ve yet been inclined to do this change.
Another nice bicycle ready for riding countless kilometers. I've been having a pretty bad period, so thanks to Rowan's video, it moved my bad thoughts a little further away.
@@andywalker7582 @unbalancedcrank Thank you, I really respect your answers. It's great to see that there are still people who care about others, even almost strangers. This alone made me feel much better. Thanks again and if I feel like it, I will write.
I had the slipping saddle recently. When out on the saddle's maiden ride (😅 for me; it's probably 1950s on a '49 bike) I took an adjustable with me, but could not apply enough torque. Back home the longer Whitworth spanner did the job. As for the B15 saddle, so much more comfortable than the two predecessors; definitely the right saddle for me & the riding position. Incidentally the bike originally had a B15 when I took ownership, but it was falling to bits.
I’m glad it’s not just me! Something must happen when a person’s weight is added after tightening. Like something in the clamp “relaxes”, because a second torquing usually does the job permanently.
I must get off my arse and do a run of anti-flicker pcbs for these. The problem is that the LED bulbs we can get hold of today on ebay etc don't exactly come with very detailed specifications - Some claim to be 6V but run fine at 4.5V and others don't start getting out of bed until you're at 5.9V. Any regulator would lower the avaliable voltage a little in exchange for making it more consistent. The potential hassle with people buying boards off me and saying they don't work has put me right off.
A lovely looking companion for the Wayfarer from the 70s range. Would be interested in where those LED bulbs come from as the originals are all glass push in.
Those peddles are awful the first thing I replaced on my Esquire hard to believe Raleigh would ever have fitted them. Just done the same lighting exercise on my Boulevard fortunately with the same result.

Thank you rowan for your hard work you have other commitments and take time to do these videos for us to enjoy.
I appreciate that! Thanks mate.

I’m swopping with the Wayfarer’s bulbs before I sell the Esquire. Can’t keep them all

I’m very sorry to hear that, my friend. Feel free to email, im always here to offload onto.
Sorry to hear that, but glad these videos help you. I'll echo Rowan's offer. He has my email if you ever need to talk.

That is indeed the funny thing about bicycle dynamos ... they are actually alternators.
Well done Rowan nice to see these old bikes come alive take care. 🚴

Vaughan? Can you shed some light?😂
It’s for sale though.
@@Velocipedium The head has to rule the heart or otherwise we get overrun with them (I am guilty as sin, 40 26" and 10 × 24/20/16")
If I could keep the Esquire, I would have kept the Connoisseur.
Another nice video.
Any tips for lubricating those style of pedals?
Do you find leaving the tyre deflated helps getting the wheel past the brake blocks?
Yes always. My airline was out the front of the house so I inflated the tyres out there due to lazyness!

The LEDs are going in the wayfarer instead, as I can’t keep the Esq. I have more new arrivals coming 😊.
