I bought the album in 1979 when I went off to college (I didn't see the movie until a bit later). The album meant the world to me during that pivotal time in my life, and it still does to this day for some unexplanable reason. I'd gladly give away every single album in my entire collection before I gave away this one - it is #1 for me and has been for over 40 years now. Oh, and the movie is fantastic also!

This is my fave of all Who albums and oddly enough Doctor Jimmy is my ultimate favourite track on the album. For some reason I could never get into Tommy and thought it was totally daft and there was only a couple of decent tracks on it. I even thought Elton John did "Pinball Wizard" better than the Who. I brought Quadrophenia more or less when it was released and it was the first Who album I ever brought and the first time the band really spoke to me enough to buy them apart from the odd single releases that got released earlier on. It deffo gets a 5 out 5 Doctor Jimmy's from me.

I like the video, I am 46 but was completely taken with Quadrophenia from 1981 when I saw it and then got the album at about 15 and became fully obsessed. its their best work

The end of the film is the beginning where jimmy is walking away from the cliffs at beachy head, for years I never realised the metafor in regard to walking away from being a mod, although I love the film the original is the one for me.

Man I am old- saw the tour a few nights in the day. Totally brilliant- the youthful confusion does not go away - it only gets worse lol

I feel exactly the same way about Tommy, I saw the film before I heard the album. Quadrophenia is number 3 in my list of favourite who albums with sellout no.1 and Next no.2 good review Darren can't argue with anything you said, it is over long.

All Who albums are worth the time to pay attention...lots of piano on this....I prefer By Numbers and Who Are You....but still Quadrophenia is ok...great point about things running their course....I was a huge Rush fan at 18 but at 62....not as much....their a fantastic group but I've moved on....... great video!

Great album. I love Quadrophenia. Pete Townshend is an incredible songwriter. The Who are magnificent. 👑

This was the first Who album I got and it is my favourite . Love the concept how it can be applied to any youth movement over the past 50 years , living for the weekend ! Love the 90,s homage by the band 'Flowered up 'called 'Weekender ' . Great review Darren 👍🙏

Thats right , the music video was like a short film . It had samples from Quadrophenia in it . I have the original 12" somewhere . I remember the cover with a girl in a Tesco carry bag t-shirt 😂.... fantastic .

the rock and quadrophenia - the instrumentals are as strong as they come

Why did he want to be some one or something? The film depicts it was not just about Growing up following a band, having a job, or a relationship, there was a bit more to it than that.
I agree with you that becoming an adult we do change, but as a young adult sometimes the wanting can still be there.
You were spot on with the Music score, but then it was written primarily for the film.

I like its vibe, it takes me to a very special place. But it does feel repetitive at times and there are some pretty bad tunes there haha. Overall, it holds a very special place in my heart.

Such a great idea to make a rock album in '73 about a young mod in '64. In my opinion not really an album of individual songs but more of a journey. I have to be in the right mood when I listen to it otherwise I can feel quite depressed after. No other album has done that to me and I've listened to quite a few. Weird.

Never reallygot into this album apart from a few tracks, though I enjoyed the film (despite it not really transporting the Quadrophenia concept, or I just didn't get it).

    Good review.
Never really got this album. It’s okay i guess. But like you said, the film adaptation does it better for me.

The film came first for me. The album is great but not a fan of the instrumentals....
