Even though it does have slightly less power than the stock Z900, it has no problem keeping up with my buddy who has one. Would a million times recommend this bike .

I had a long internal dialogue about whether I wanted this, or a used Honda CB1100. I stick by the CB due to being a biiiiiit more old-fashioned and special looking, but honestly the Z900RS is a better bike to ride. The suspension on the RS is much more modern and the paint on these is GORGEOUS. Love em.

I have this bike and love it! Flash the ecu installed Achrapovic headers and a slight mod to the airbox and you have around 120hp to the wheel. It unleashes that big 4 cylinder and takes a really good motorcycle to the next level. I have a couple to choose from but always reach for the keys to the RS. Have fun with this one guys and oh yeah the sound when you wring this thing out will put a smile on your face. Great taste as always Whitney!

It's not just the liking the esthetics of bikes like these, but sort of being opposed to the esthetics of naked bikes like the MT range. Also, the standard, lower, flat-ish seat is just a better experience for passengers. There are pretty much no modern "standard" motorcycles without a retro vibe available, so I wouldn't say the retro esthetic is everything, but I certainly like it. I think a flat seat and round headlight are just kind of timeless things that appeal to me.

When I was a bit younger (like back in 1975 and owned my '74 750 Honda) a couple of guys that roamed our little town owned these, and I have to admit us guys with 750 Hondas had a bit of lust in our eyes for those big Kawasaki's. Yoshimura also had big bore kits for the Honda and Kawasaki 4 cylinders back then.

My wife owns the Z900RS Cafe (the green one with the cowl). She had the Moto Guzzi V7 III, and we swapped over to the Kawi after the shaft seals on the Guzzi started leaking for the second time, and a fourth check engine light in 4k miles. Whitney is right. 2018 RS brown/orange with a few mods. Funnest street bike I’ve owned. Loads of torque, power, and a comfortable riding position that doesn’t become uncomfortable in a couple of hours. If you go 75 or over just bend your arms a little more, slide your ass back, and tuck into the tank, there’s room to move around.
Booster Plug fixed the low rev throttle problem, an ECU flash would do the same, but I can easily remove this plug in mod in about 30 minutes. Acceleration seems improved as well as mitigation of some of the burping from engine braking. Haven’t had it on long enough to give a through evaluation, but immediate impression… it works as advertised.
A few people, about 10, have walked up to me and asked about the bike so far this season, a couple of them cute girls, don’t tell my wife.

This motorcycle is so popular in Japan that the resell value for used versions of this bike is higher because Kawasaki Plaza shops here in Japan either refuse to even sell you one (reserved only to their most valued customers) or force you to enter a lottery just to earn the right to purchase one (and often competeing against 50+ people and raffles only occur 5 times a year). On rare occasions, some shops DO accept reservations but they will tell you to expect minimum 18 months before it's youre turn.
In Japan, Kawasaki's official 'Kawasaki Plaza" stores are the only franchise dealers allowed to sell Kawasaki motorcycles higher than 400cc. Only used motorcycles can be sold by other dealers so it severely limits availability and these shops have a legal monopoly on how to distribute new Kawasaki motorcycles.
Already I lost 8 raffles to earn the right to buy a Ninja 1000sx and ZX-10R since last year. The shop told me the Z900rs has more than twice as many entries than these 2 motorcycles combined.

    • @andypants1000
      @andypants1000 2 года назад +1

they are destroying the value of other used bikes too. last year my bike went from being worth around 8k usd used to 5.5 this year because the used z900rs has finally hit the 10 to 12 k mark used, and everyone is trying to get one. I was hoping to sell my bike so I could get another one but yeah, z900rs is fucking everyone up.

@@andypants1000 very true. Official Honda dealers here in Japan actually send some of their trade-in used motorcycles back to their Kumamoto factory to scrap and then recycle the parts to make higher demand motorcycles such as the Rebel 1100 instead of risk having the used bike collect dust and inventory space. Many of these popular motorcycles really messed up the used motorcycle market.

I have a 2019 Z900RS and absolutely love it. When I was motorcycle shopping for my first street bike around 2.5 years ago, I bought a very clean 2009 Kawasaki ER6-N but my heart longed for the brown Z900RS in the showroom. I went to the dealership every weekend for a year to check out that candy tone root beer and orange flaked paint job and retro styling, and I took that ER6-N to a local parking lot 4-5x per week for a year to practice slow speed maneuvers and learn how to master the basics. I also picked up a really nice BMW R1200C along the way for highway cruising. After a year of solid riding, practicing and lessons, I was ready for that Z900RS. I told the sales guy I was coming Saturday morning to buy the bike, and sure enough he sold it an hour before I arrived! But I bought the same bike with a full Akropovic exhaust from a well mannered British gentleman an hour from my house, and I’ve been so happy with the bike since then. I’ve put on Road 5s, full suspension with progressive springs, learned how to do a brake job, installed speed bleeders, shorty levers, rearsets, lowered bars, carbon fiber bits, an Ivan’s flash tune, center stand, LED strips and replaced all the lights with LEDs. Also bought some beautiful turn signals from a small shop in England that makes custom parts for triumphs and gutted the insides and installed LED light kits from emergency vehicles that are so strong they serve as driving lights. Also I stalked driving lights and engine guards. The bike is one of a kind now, and it gets better every time I ride it. Love it!
PS I also own a nice CB1100 but have to say that other than the aesthetic, these are much different bikes. The CB1100 wants to relax and cruise. The Z900RS is a rip rorting, snorting beast! Thinking about rounding off my collection with a Street Triple RS now. Never had a triple. Thanks for the great content Papa Yams!

It’s hard to really tell in videos and pictures but this bike is deceptively wide through the middle. A lot of modern bikes seem to taper in around the seat and kind of allow your legs to grab the frame a bit better but this bike does not do that. It isn’t too much of a problem for me but smaller riders are going to find its like sitting on an ironing board. With that being said it’s a great bike, sounds awesome, very comfortable and well rounded neo retro.

@@toofastnobrakes yeah I had it flashed, best mod for the bike by far. Would it be just as easy dropping in the different cams? I had the cams out last winter when I did the valve clearances, I’ll probably do it next winter again.

As somebody who owns--and LOVES--my '82 KZ440 (belt drive; have had her for 20 years) and '93 KZ1000 (police model; have had her going on 5 years), I think Kawasaki hit a home with the Z900RS.
It's an updated version of the venerable UJMs, but it's not so different that people would have to look hard to see any "family resemblance". It looks like what motorcycles looked like when I was growing up (I'm 52), and not something that looks like a plastic grasshopper with wheels.

Z600/900 RS, the XSR 700/900, and the Ducati Scramblers are the perfect mix of classic looks with just the right amount of modern. Only problem I have is the pin stripes. I know the Triumph Bonneville line are the measuring stick but for my eye they're a little to classic looking.
