I was at this show, tenth row from the stage and 9 months pregnant. I still remember so much from that night and I also remember
a very nervous security guy who told me to not to have the kid tonight, lol. I had her the next day and all three of my kids were raised on the Smiths music

The little slides and dynamics in the guitar riff is so much more audible in this performance than the album version, which to me makes it so much more emotional and beautiful.

One of the most beautiful riffs ever written, coupled with some of the most poetic lyrics. I know some consider the lyrics a little bit too jokey against the wonderful instrumental but it works. The Smiths still remain one of the best of all time

I cant explain how much I love this version. Johnny’s riff, Andy’s bass, Mike’s drum, and of course Morrissey’s smooth, rich, voice. All of these make me feel so truly alive. It gives me the most wonderful nostalgia. The song is so simple, it’s like they just found a fact and stated it. I’m considered a chubby girl, and when people make fun of me for that, I always find myself coming back to this song. Just hearing morrissey, my favorite singer, say “some girls are bigger than others” is enough to stop my crying. It’s currently 5:41 pm, Tuesday, July 5th, 2022. I’m happy. To The Smiths, thank you.

This is by far the best version. Simply because there's an extra verse which makes the song longer

It’s very mysterious. And intended as such. The music is interesting and melodic and then the morrissey lyric gets to the heart of the human / animal intellect, but with great ambiguity.

My God ,I have loved The Smith's from the first time I heard them. I'm 55 now and the music is just as magical as ever. Why oh why did you guys break up. If it wasn't for The Smith's I would have died a long time a ago. I had no one that loved me ever they were the only thing that kept me going from day to day and even to this day my cry is Please ,Please Please let me get what I want this time.

I really do believe the lyrics are genius in part because perhaps Morrissey knows deep down that whatever he writes won't be able to do the riff justice, so he wrote just the dumbest thing by his standards.

I came from a heavy metal backround but a friend turned me on to these Gents when i was like 28. This song blew me away! I love every note. I can play this 100 times and it never gets old.
I bought this on on 12 inch vinyl in 1987 with I Started Something and Pretty Girls Make Graves (I think) . It was a much cleaner version, too. Could be the best guitar playing I ever heard and it was live.
I bought it in 1987 as well at Moby Disc Records in Pasadena. I still have it to this day.
This is fing beyond anything. Radiohead Knives Out and all other appregio prog/rock indie owe everything to Johnny Marr.
GOD Johnny sounds fantastic here. Such a great recording and I wish that the recent TQID remaster was more widely available.

And after such a long time I finally managed to 'devocalise' this 1986 Brixton Academy performance of the song so we can enjoy how the Marr/Rourke combo held such a tight, rolling riff together for a near full five minutes: ruclips.net/video/tyRoTgMJBNs/видео.html&ab_channel=route79.
