Johnny Marr wrote some of the best riffs in modern music history the man is a genius remember ….he’s doing a single pick plectrum affect here not like… multiple finger plucking … this is insanely complex and comprises a rare set of of unique kinetic timing skills… I don’t even think Mark Knopfler could do this with two fingers … and .. just to still be able to do it at his age … and perfectly that is pure legendary… and when you look at the fact he wasn’t the lead singer and he’s now singing over those intricate guitar riffs… and the timing and complexity…makes this and incredible act to witness ….one in a lifetime artist… Jonny Marr 🙏🙏🙏🙏 we are very privileged indeed
sad to see morrissey recently disrespect marr saying he was obsessed with him and keeps referring to him in interviews. Morrissey needs to kop on. He was nothing without marr. Brilliant together. Morrissey sounding grumpier by d day
@@homeward34Ridiculous to say Morrissey was nothing without Marr. As it would be ridiculous to say that Marr was nothing without Morrissey. In fact Morrissey’s solo career has been far more impressive than Johnny’s. But together they were obviously incredible. No one like them before or since.
@@29memyselfandiYes. Records such as Viva Hate, Vauxhall and I, Your Arsenal, and Quarry are all exceptional and on the same level as releases by The Smiths save perhaps The Queen is Dead which is one of the best records of all time. Johnny is a great guitarist and composer but his lyrics, voice, and vocal melodies don’t get even close to what Morrissey does.
His voice has improved so much over the years. Really strong now, love it. And his strings...pfft, exceptional! Not much is spoken about Jack Mitchell - whom in my opinion is one of the most talented drummers of our generation.
Johnny voice indeed has improved so much over the years, I am lucky enough to know him well and have been to his home and studio and played guitar with him which is one of the best things to happen in my life, some advice he gave me a few years ago as we are both primarily guitar players who then started to sing lead vocals, he said we are guitar playing singers which is very different and harder than being a lead singer who plays guitar meaning just strumming a few chords whilst singing and having a lead guitar player to play all the difficult stuff, a guitar playing lead singer as we both are obviously has to carry the songs with the vocals and also play the lead guitar parts and rhythm guitar parts plus carry off a frontman role with charisma and stage presence which can be tough being stood at a mic stand singing with a guitar and also changing guitar effects with your pedals, doing it all perfectly in time, playing and remembering all guitar parts, soloing as well as remembering all the lyrics and singing in tune!!! A hard job to do well which is over looked by many, that’s multi-tasking and he’s doing a brilliant job.
I love that Johnny Marr can sing this now. Sublime is a good word for it. They can all play their own music to their heart's content. I'll still get old hoping for a reunion though 💖
Melodic Heaven!! Always been one of favourite Smiths tunes, I love playing this riff on the guitar, this was one of the songs I used to hear coming from my older brothers bedroom when I was 12yrs old around 35yrs ago and made me go into primary school the following day and ask to start learning and having guitar lessons. Think I’ve played the guitar nearly everyday ever since. Another great Smiths song in Johnny’s live set that is truly wonderful.
The genius of this man isn't simply the dexterity of his fingers. It's that he chooses notes that don't actually go together in any conventional sense and yet he manages to combine them into this wonderful symphony. It is utterly utterly unique and has never been replicated. Probably the closest is Ryan Adam's Prisoner album especially Anything I Say to you now .(listen to the end) .. that said still doesnt come close.
He lets the story of the guitar 🎸 tell how the song will come about. He is the artist that gets to bring the craftsmanship of and soul that the instrument represents. A gift from the guitar gods thank you Johnny
I almost feel the same way about the instrumentals for Morrissey's solo career, so much more generic in a lot of cases than the music he was handed in The Smiths.
@@funkhole69 I’d say that might be applicable for some of his stuff but viva hate and Vauxhall and I have extremely interesting composition,in my opinion at least and I often hold viva hate in particular up with the smiths records
@@funkhole69 Cool glad you liked it. I myself prefer viva hate to Vauxhall and I but there’s just some really big standouts for me on Vauxhall like “speedway”, “hold onto your friends”, “the more you ignore me the closer I get”. I hope you enjoy Vauxhall’s too:)
Nobody plays as lovely as Johnny Marr does...nobody....
Well the second guitarist here is doing a good job too while Johnny's singing.
James Doviak is an incredibly talent musician and brilliant co guitarist
NOBODY
He just glides over the fretboard...
He should stick to playing guitar
The happiest day of my life was when I discovered The Smiths
I love how he plays this while everyone thinks he didn’t like the lyrics.

It’s a lot easier to play this riff finger style, Johnny always had that effortless pick bounce.
Greatest riff of all time
It must be unbelievable seeing him live
In fact, it ist !!!
It is. You should come sometime. It's a blast.
It certainly was in August 1986. :)
That tone…. To die for
I love how he is singing Smiths songs, he has every right to display his songs and is doing a beautiful job. He and Morrissey were dynamic together.

A light that will never go out
Johnny marr absolute legend love the melody he plays on this track it makes the whole song !
Oh, shit. I want one of those guitars.
The crazy thing is he keeps getting better and better.
Love this tune, if he done it as an instrumental I’d still love it. Beautiful riff
Call it Classical Girls.
Probably my favorite song of theirs.

Phenomenal guitarist and incredible how he isn't mentioned in 'greatest of all time' in lists. The Smiths are the greatest band of all time - nqat.
andy rourke paid this tune it's finest honor by playing on the original.
He's a vastly underrated bass player.
They have often said that this is their least favorite tune...To me it's one of their best.

his playing is magic. nobody plays like Johnny. Each riff has an enchanting and spooky hopefulness about it.
Outstanding.
Gracias por grabar un momento en el que muchos no podemos asistir a los conciertos, es una gran pieza este pedazo de riff por parte de Johnny Marrs...
heavenly guitar
I agree . I love his playing
absolutely stunning
Thanks for sharing this!
Bucket List
Gracias por colgar este video,...y que suerte tuviste verlo en directo.
beautiful!
just so beautiful
I can’t play that riff if I sit down and concentrate and he bloody plays it and sings over the top
Such a beautiful guitar part. 👌
I love how the guitar gallops along with a positive vibe, but the vocals seem like they’re on a ever descending trajectory.
Such a GREAT song
Fender jaguar ❤❤❤
que hermoso :,,v felicidades por haber estado ahi :,,v
Beautiful 🫡❤️
❤
One of my greatest song ever. Simple, stupid but genius.
genius
😍
Ace. Andy Rourke's bass cannot be matched though.
All'ah, Us Phatty Mama's need to Unite to honor Mr John John's amazing playing/singing of the song, if anything🤪🤣😘
boz the time is now…
Rip andy
Some riffs are better than others
They should get Smiths Back together again… who knows one day…
Lain Smith.... ah, from "the Smiths"...... 😊
What was that song at the beginning that ended quickly?
The Hogwarts Music entrance exam is not that simple
I didn't know Johnny could sing those lyrics himself. I know he hates these lyrics
4 minutes holding the phone, blocking others and not letting them see and enjoy. Thanks
Of course the guitar is the major thing of this song, but wo Morrissey... Does not make sense
shut yo ass up this is great

what happens when you put the greatest guitar riff ever written with the worse lyric ever written
Far from the worst lyrics. I mean come on “as Anthony said to cleopatra as they opened the crate of ale”
Oh dear you just dont get it do you!?
Bacon butty without brown sauce. This song without Morrissey. Discuss.
Guitarist should stick to guitar in. Personalaty singers. Oh God singers. Should do the singing.
