I drove my cousins 4th gen rav4 the day before and the engine is not howling like this. Something that makes me feel more luxurious about the car. I got the 2018 Camry and I don’t like the howling at all
It's nice to know the engine is only that loud when floored. I never floor my cars. Although it could be better insulated, it's not a total deal breaker for me. Still, I'll wait until its refresh in a couple of years. Maybe they'll add sound deadening in the engine bay.
Yeah I feel it does. I have the same powertrain in my 2022 camry and it adds some character to these two vehicles that are kind of well known for being "boring." Love the little growls and snarls the 2.5 makes.
I love my Rav 4 XLE hybrid. Not here to complain. Enjoy your Rav 4. Looks like it has plenty of pickup. You live in a beautiful place. Looks like you live on the West or East Coast based on the fog. Share with us you beautiful State.
I’m leasing the RAV4 Adventure and at about 2K miles it started making this grinding noise every time I brake and when I’m accelerating. Had to bring it to the dealership the other day and they had to order a bunch of parts to fix the auto clutch assembly. Also my steering wheel started squeaking and the engine was smoking. I only have 4100 miles on it! So disappointed that I have to pay $489 a month for another 30 months 😫 I had leased a couple Highlanders for 6 years and those were perfect, just couldn’t afford the $600 a month price tag.
I'm not a fan of the new 4-cylinder engine in the new Camry and RAV4. It's loud and not as smooth as the previous engine in the 7th gen Camry. Toyota needs to make an optional V6.
I've never had a 7th gen, but the 8th sure is a lot peppier than the 2011 6th gen we owned and gets way more mpg. It can also take corners much aggressively with as much confidence as I did in a FRS. One thing I miss on my 6th gen was how pillowy soft it rides. But that is the trade off for better handling and stiffer chassis. I don't find the engine loud under normal driving circumstances. In the video, he floors it all the time. The hybrid RAV4 and Camrys does much better in noise and picks up speed much quicker at stoplights though. The new RAV4 felt like it was built to be a hybrid to begin with.
I’d never buy a 4 cylinder suv or crossover. It’s peppy, but not smooth or quiet at low speeds. You have to rev up a lot this 4 cylinder engine in the RAV4 because of the weight. Toyota should offer an optional 3.5l V6 on the RAV4 just like the 07-12 used to be.

@CP100 Turbos are actually quite reliable. The main cause for failure is improper lubrication (i.e. people aren't checking to make sure their engine oil is topped up or of good quality). Otherwise, in a vehicle like this, where you're just gonna cruise with the family, it'll be problem free for a long time.
h corolla I couldn’t find any source regarding to the engine upgrade. It’s probably something to do with mic. If they actually made any changes for 2020 model, it’s possibly muffler related, for 2020 noise regulation
@@INUMIMI28 The 2019 RAV4 actually had significant changes done to the engine. It's now called a Dynamic Force engine by Toyota, and they claim it is able to achieve thermal efficiency figures of 41%. The old one was the 2AR-FE, the new one is the A25A-FKS. If I'm not mistaken, it also uses both multi port and direct injection for better performance and less carbon buildup. You can read more on the official Toyota website. Haha they left that old loud 4 banger just to give the impression of accelleration... When you made that first 0-60 corner I was like what looks like that was respectable, then I replayed and calculated the 8 seconds it took.. Wow really depends on the perception. I make that corner 0-60 in 5 seconds with my 2011 fusion sport... and it doesnt feel fast to me. lol, infact now I think I need like a mustang 5.0 on loud exhausts or a supercar to feel anything stronger. VERY hard to get that in SUV's nowadays... Fn turbos... Im heading more towards the hybrid 2020 rav4 now, im giving up on performance for comfort so might as well make it practical and somehow torquy... I rarely even go over 60 around the city anyways. People need to understand that before buying a fast car. Mostly frustration for not being able to roll as it should. FAST. Only because 80% of the people on the road are driving like fn grannies all the time scared of dying at every corner, literally creating dangerous situations by not flowing with traffic and actually staying conscious about OTHERS on the road. So you take your L and you buy a high SUV or truck so atleast you can see WTF is happening ahead and try to avoid it gently.
