I tried this yesterday for the first time, I must say I was impressed. I put it in the oven for 50 minutes and instead of aluminum foil around the edges, I put 2 pats of Kerry gold butter on the top. The edges were perfect!
The prohibition against toaster ovens are like the "do not use popcorn mode" on microwave popcorn, there are just too many varieties of toaster ovens for the manufacturer to know how they'll turn out. I think it would be worthwhile to try using the toaster oven, you might have to cover it with a sheet of aluminum foil so the closeness of the heaters on the top won't burn the crust but I guess that will depend on how much distance you have to the top burners...
It is not just an Asian household it's also in the black community lol I used to hate to wait but it worth it! A short cut is to microwave it for 3 minutes and then bake it for 30 minutes at 350 F keep an eye on it depending on the oven but it's so good and much quicker!
i LOVE marie calendars pot pies. I used to buy them so much during university cause I only really had a microwave. Also good to see you doing well David
Daboki asking & testing out the *real* questions we need answered here!~ Love me some hearty chicken pot pie. Edit: I still have microwave pot pie despite oven being more better prepared (I have both). Oven if you have time. Microwave if you just want a quick bite. Also our family stores the oven pans and stuff in the lower part of the oven (not inside, but in that heated lower drawer).
I like to throw them in the microwave for about 3-4 mins, then put them in the oven just get a slightly crispier crust. Oven only makes the crust really dry and takes way too long
A food vlog to watch just as I finished making myself dumplings for dinner? PERFECT. You know what? I'm not Asian but living in a small apartment will force you to be creative with your storage space as I'm sure you experienced and my oven is also full of whatever pots and pans don't fit in the cupboard. gotta do whacha gotta do 😂
Love the video! Im the same with pizza rolls, once I started oven baking them I couldnt go back to the soggy mess that is the microwave lol. Also the aluminum foil on the edge of the crust is to prevent the edge from burning! You see that a lot when you are making pies that have a parbaked crust.
I'm not sure if you have ever had it but in Australia we have these frozen meat pies (It's like a pastry pie with either steak cubes or beef mince stewed in a gravy meat sauce). They're so so so good. Just reminded me of them. They're always better when cooked in the oven but sometimes the oven just takes too long
I’m ashamed of myself for coming back to this video, but I just love the way you say “pot pie” and specifically the moment when you say “pot pie innards”
Baked is ofc way better. But I feel you about the time and the pots in the oven. What I do for the microwave one is after I throw it on a non stick pan and give it the heat it needs to get the flaky crust on top
I am the biggest pot pie Marie callender fan. I have to be, because I eat these three times a week at minimum. I don't eat that one. I love the chicken with bacon, cheese and it also has broccoli. I've been eating these for years. I can't stop. I have never put one in the microwave.
We have a large toaster oven with air fryer function and it is perfect. I always ignore “do not prepare in toaster oven” on frozen products. The big oven is strictly for storage now.
Oh my gosh, that oven looks exactly like mine. Except I was tired of emptying out the oven so I bought a Breville countertop oven and I cook and reheat everything in that oven. Never one day of buyers remorse. And that was 6 years ago. Beautiful Collie:) I've never cooked a pot pie in a microwave. Worth the wait "every time". No comparison:) Try taking the foil off for a minute or two at the end of the cook time and see what you think.
Well, I prefer Stouffer’s chicken pot pies, but have tried the Mrs. too. The Stouffer’s do very well in the microwave for me. I pop them in the oven on broil after they’re nuked so the crust gets golden brown on top. I’ve also baked them in the oven. There is no taste difference or texture difference between the two. I’ve thrown the Mrs. in the oven and she turned out fine. I’ve not tried those in the microwave. Cheers.
My husband and I are fans of Marie Callender's chicken pot pie. My only choice is to use the oven over the microwave. I only use the microwave for defrosting, snacks, and warming up certain foods.
I microwave my MC pot pies on 80 percent power level for about 4 min. Then i put them into the regular oven at 400 degrees for about 30 min. They come out amazing.
Just found you by searching for someone who compared the 2. I have always used the microwave up until last week and now I can't go back. I agree 100% with everything you said......from the oven having more sauce, it being tastier, retaining more heat etc. I just need to plan in advance now lol I too am a fan of boiling hot foods. Probably why I love Soondubu Jjigae so much.
Hahaha thank you, I'm not alone. Ooo yes it's from a company called UMAI. Really awesome designs there. It gets expensive but just wait for a deal, they usually have some good ones frequently.
I have never been able to bring myself to microwave one. The oven baked is too good and microwaves tend to ruin food. Work in a pinch but never my go to.
Sigh...not having an oven for 10 years now means I'm missing a lot.😆 I want you to be a judge on a cooking show! You are so thorough and make me want to try everything!🍽
My microwave broke and I only had a toaster oven. Heresy of heresies, you CAN cook a pot pie in a toaster oven!!! Bring down the heat a little or put its little self in an aluminum pan. Then watch it like a hawk! The bigger toaster ovens aren't so bad, but the smaller ones, you really gotta watch.
I loved the video!! ❤ i think the microwaved pot pie had a lot less juice is because alot of the water evaporated into the crust and made it super soggy :(( looks like ik what i’m gonna be doing this weekend >:))
Random search and funny you mentioned kimchi. I’m in Korea and get these in the commissary on the base I work on. Love kimchi but hell no with pot pie. lol.
It is BEST, in every way to utilize the AIR-FRYER! ✅ Far less costly than using a HUGE over. Sadly, microwaving NEVER really turns out very good, as it will 🚫 NOT have a nice, crunchy type top or edges.
I almost laughed out loud when you showed us your oven cuz I also got like every pot and pan and baking tray stuffed in mine. You can wrap the edge of your pie in foil by cutting a foil square slightly larger than your pie crust, cut a circle in the middle to expose the middle of the pie, then use the square to wrap your pie. The edges burn easier so the foil shields the heat a little bit, but I like to take that foil off in the last 10-15 minutes to let the edge brown/crisp up.
Ohh yes! So my mom is the keeper of the recipes, but I can tell you the basics. It's just soysauce, and vinegar, but there might be a few other little spices she adds and the ratio is really important. Maybe I can do a little side dish video one day haha
I so miss a great pot pie .. I always preferred Swanson TURKEY pot pie, but they are G.O.N.E. Next best incredible was and is ... Stouffers! Wonderful real veggies ... and cream sauce. I have not seen any in over two years .... Dump pot pie into a metal pan upside down . . . dot with butter. Bake. Those pies do NOT HAVE A CRUST. Gooey. Not flakey.
I love these pies! and yes, most (not all) frozen food is at least a notch, and some, drastically better in a conventional oven. But when you don't have time, the microwave is almost always acceptable, and in some cases even better. But not these 👍
Wrapping the edges of the pie is because it’s frozen, so the edges will burn before the inside thaws and heats up. Pies are always baked. Reheating them in the microwave only heats the liquid and the crust steams. Reheating it in the oven maintains all the flavours you would have gotten from eating it before they froze it. Also, the pastry isn’t flaky pastry, it looks like shortcrust pastry. Either way, the oven will keep the pastry as it was intended. Flaky pastry flakes, that is, literal flakes come off it, even when it’s fresh from the oven. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flaky_pastry
Chicken pot pie is something i was never really able to get into. The creamy/gooey texture with meat just doesn't really do it for me. Great video though :)
I tried this yesterday for the first time, I must say I was impressed. I put it in the oven for 50 minutes and instead of aluminum foil around the edges, I put 2 pats of Kerry gold butter on the top. The edges were perfect!

i wont ever lose sleep over this again, thank you so much
I live for when you post food content
Same! ❤

This is the content the world needs right now
Ayy much love Tregg
I microwave for 5-6 minutes to heat center and finish uncovered in air fryer for another 5-6 minutes & crust comes out perfect.
These pot pies really are a guilty pleasure. I eat these once a week when I’m in the go and need something quick. So good!
i LOVE marie calendars pot pies. I used to buy them so much during university cause I only really had a microwave. Also good to see you doing well David
They are super convenient! Aw thank you! :)
Bake!! I usually don't microwave stuff that has a crust because it usually gets soggy.
Daboki asking & testing out the *real* questions we need answered here!~

that's a great idea! Might have to try that variation next time haha
as an asian... the oven thing is so true 😂😂😂
Lets gooo oven storing~
As a "White" dude, I also store pots & pans in the oven.
As a blackie I also store pans and pots in the oven.
I always have these thoughts. Thank you for your thorough testing
A food vlog to watch just as I finished making myself dumplings for dinner? PERFECT. You know what? dumplings?? Now that's a treat, hope you enjoyed! Hahaha small apartment living definitely gets you creative, that's true
Let’s be honest, you were just looking for an excuse to eat two pot pies 😂
LOOL How'd you know Nate.. don't expose me like that. You know one is never enough, always having you crave for more
😂
Love the video! Im the same with pizza rolls, once I started oven baking them I couldnt go back to the soggy mess that is the microwave lol. Also the aluminum foil on the edge of the crust is to prevent the edge from burning! You see that a lot when you are making pies that have a parbaked crust.
I gotta try these pizza rolls.. I don't think I have ever tried a pizza roll before come to think of it lol. The crust not burning makes a lot sense!
I'm not sure if you have ever had it but in Australia we have these frozen meat pies (It's like a pastry pie with either steak cubes or beef mince stewed in a gravy meat sauce). Curious what the brand name(s)
is?
Can't go wrong with four n twenty@@mddell58
Please more food videos daboki! I really enjoy these type of content. Makes my day!
항상 좋은영상 고마워요!
Maple Monday 그립네요

Love the background music :) You always pick great maple melodies
Hell yeah, a surprise food content!
Somehow I thought I didn’t need it but somehow I do now, thinking with daboki is really kicking
Great video bud, good seeing you!!
I am the biggest pot pie Marie callender fan. I have to be, because I eat these three times a week at minimum. I don't eat that one. I love the chicken with bacon, cheese and it also has broccoli. I've been eating these for years. I can't stop. I have never put one in the microwave.

The oven always hits different bro, its like marinating in its own juices in the oven hahaha
Yesirr! Taking that extra step is just worth it some times
A third variant, The Air Fryer needs to be tried & to add even more suspense, WHICH AIR FRYER MODE since mines has BOTH air fry & bake modes.
You’re supposed to poke holes in the microwave one so it doesn’t explode like that. The steam needs a way out
Came to skim through, stayed and watched for a good video💛
Lol I love those too. I use the air fryer to cook it in half the time of conventional oven.
Kristina! Oh wow, that's pretty smart. I really should invest in an air fryer, they seem so convenient
Oh my gosh, that oven looks exactly like mine. Except I was tired of emptying out the oven so I bought a Breville countertop oven and I cook and reheat everything in that oven. delivering content I didn't know I wanted to see :'^)
My husband and I are fans of Marie Callender's chicken pot pie. My only choice is to use the oven over the microwave. I only use the microwave for defrosting, snacks, and warming up certain foods.
Apparently, the aluminum strip on the pie crust prevents the sides from getting burnt (I've learned from experience, lol)
I do it 75% of the way in the microwave and the last 7 minutes in the air fryer
Microwave Marie calendar pies should be done in the oven..! One love.!
I microwave my MC pot pies on 80 percent power level for about 4 min. Then i put them into the regular oven at 400 degrees for about 30 min. They come out amazing.
😂😂 i just woke up an started cooking one for my first time
Do you put books and clothes in your kitchen cabinets? How no room for pots and pans?
2:00 gosh this is what we do as well..
and let me tell you... using the oven is never worth it.
I'm retired now. When I was still working, I used to bring some of these pies to work each week and microwave them for lunch.
Just found you by searching for someone who compared the 2. I have always used the microwave up until last week and now I can't go back. I agree 100% with everything you said......from the oven having more sauce, it being tastier, retaining more heat etc.

Drinking /smoking game idea , take a hit / shot every time David says "pot pie"
It's okay, Daboki. My family's oven, too, is a storage for pots and pans
ALSO! Where did you get that t-shirt you're wearing? Looks sick!
Hahaha thank you, I'm not alone. Ooo yes it's from a company called UMAI. Really awesome designs there. It gets expensive but just wait for a deal, they usually have some good ones frequently.
@@TheDaBoki Appreciate the info! 🙏
I have never been able to bring myself to microwave one. The oven baked is too good and microwaves tend to ruin food. Work in a pinch but never my go to.
Damnit Daboki! Everytime I watch your food vids, I always get hungry 😖
...now to find me some Marie Callender Pot Pie and try this 😂
Hahaha hope you find yourself a callender pot pie! A nice treat here and there for sure~
I love it when you cook!!!😊
Sigh...not having an oven for 10 years now means I'm missing a lot.😆 I want you to be a judge on a cooking show! You are so thorough and make me want to try everything!🍽

Did anyone get confused with want the paper tray was, because i thought it was the top of the box from the way the picture make it seem.
Random search and funny you mentioned kimchi. I’m in Korea and get these in the commissary on the base I work on. Love kimchi but hell no with pot pie. lol.
❤❤❤ DABOKI
Anyone tried air frying it?? I’m just curious since a lot of foods that could be cooked in the oven have been used in the air fryer.
More daboki tries and yuki! 😊
"Hey lil fella, you look like you could used a Marie Callender's Chicken Pot Pie"
- Yoshi
It is BEST, in every way to utilize the AIR-FRYER! ✅
Far less costly than using a HUGE over.
Sadly, microwaving NEVER really turns out very good, as it will 🚫 NOT have a nice, crunchy type top or edges.
daboki, a toaster oven is different from a toaster lol
first and good to see you
Definitely gonna try this in air fryer
There is a frozen meal company called Amy's. Love everything they have, they have a Thai Red Curry that i absolutely love every once in a while
Ooo I'm gonna keep my eye out for that one, thanks for the rec!
I do mine in my convection toaster oven 90 minutes 300 degrees
I almost laughed out loud when you showed us your oven cuz I also got like every pot and pan and baking tray stuffed in mine.
You can wrap the edge of your pie in foil by cutting a foil square slightly larger than your pie crust, cut a circle in the middle to expose the middle of the pie, then use the square to wrap your pie. The edges burn easier so the foil shields the heat a little bit, but I like to take that foil off in the last 10-15 minutes to let the edge brown/crisp up.
Daboki! Preplan your pot pie cravings
you cant make a frozen pot pie in the microwave. At 5 minutes the package starts to burn and by the time the pie is cooked the bottom is burnt
What did I just watched lol
I approve
How do you make your peppers? we need recipes. Love the food content!!!!
Ohh yes! So my mom is the keeper of the recipes, but I can tell you the basics. It's just soysauce, and vinegar, but there might be a few other little spices she adds and the ratio is really important. Maybe I can do a little side dish video one day haha
I grew up Mexican and i buy these instead of oven burritos 🎉 yatta
I cooked this in microwave it for 3 mins will I get sick
WE STORE IN THE OVEN TOO. The is storage and not a warmer.
i now have a desire to buy these pot pies!
Try the air fryer. Yum
ITS WORTH
The microwave pot pie got too hot and you lost a lot of juice because it boiled over.
Do them in the air fryer
What are those pepper?
Korean chili pepper
I so miss a great pot pie .. I always preferred Swanson TURKEY pot pie, but they are G.O.N.E. Next best incredible was and is ... Stouffers! Wonderful real veggies ... and cream sauce. I have not seen any in over two years .... Dump pot pie into a metal pan upside down . . . dot with butter. Bake. Those pies do NOT HAVE A CRUST. Gooey. Not flakey.
Never had them in the microwave, so I’m a say oven or air fryer
I was actually tripped out why it was actually 5 or 50 minutes when I first got one 💀💀
I love these pies! and yes, most (not all) frozen food is at least a notch, and some, drastically better in a conventional oven. But when you don't have time, the microwave is almost always acceptable, and in some cases even better. But not these 👍
Damn I want a pot pie now
Aur fryer is correct answer.
Uhh you can microwave it
Microwave is faster, oven gives you crisperoar crust.
it takes a hour not fast
Ironic how it's an instant food, but then the packaging says to cook for 50mins lol
Gotta do the oven it's not an option.
w
ngl thats our oven too but we not even asian lool
Add avocado lol
Wrapping the edges of the pie is because it’s frozen, so the edges will burn before the inside thaws and heats up.

isnt this just obvious hahah how could the microwave be better
but you def can make them in toaster ovens
Wow, you're not the brightest out of the bunch are ya!
If you eat this i feel sorry for you
Chicken pot pie is something i was never really able to get into. The creamy/gooey texture with meat just doesn't really do it for me. Great video though :)
