Carl is truly one of the all-time great percussionists and an indispensable part of one of the most influential and popular prog/rock bands to grace the world with their music, ELP. In his early 70s, Carl still possesses the chops to play at the very highest level. Keep on chugging, Mr. Palmer!
To me and so many, many others, Carl Palmer is without doubt, the greatest drummer in history. He was the perfect addition to those two other phenominal musicians: Keith Emerson and. Greg Lake. (Ps: These two "kids" that your working with now are both pretty damned formitable as well!!) Great job Carl. You legacy will last for centuries.
Same here. For me it started when I first heard the King Crimson album "In the Court of the Crimson King", playing in a record store on Kenmore St. in Boston in 1971 when I was 16. Loved Greg Lake's vocals in that album and it naturally led me straight to ELP....
Wow , a blast from the past. I seen ELP a couple of times in the 70`s at Madison Square Garden NYC. Incredible shows , Carl`s playing is still visually embedded in my mind. The young man style of playing guitar reminds me of Steve Howe. Great job by the band.
One of the greatest drummers to have ever hit a skin. Incredible player and with a rare and specialtalent that puts most of the rest in the shade. I have listened to him for 50 years and never tire....
Legend , one of the greatest on the drum set ever, one of my favorites, pure class. God bless you Carl palmer! And what a brilliant band! 3 amazing musicians!
Glad Carl put together a band to continue the Legacy of ELP..Have been a fan of theirs for 50 since I first saw them at the Mar y Sol Rock Fest in Puerto Rico. R.I.P, Keith and Gregg.
CP is a beast. Great control and he is spot on. Many forget that it was Louie Bellson who started the double bass kit craze back in the 60’s and my father grew up with that. I grew up with CP and Peart, however, and ELP was a heavy influence on me - and it was my brother playing the kit and me on guitar. To see CP playing is just pure magic but to see any of these guys play in person is a one in a lifetime blessing. Thanks for the post!
I'm a vocalist, and I worked with Rachel on this piece and others... you can see them on my channel... I would just love to get up and sing with these guys!!! ruclips.net/video/Mr0Ydf6LhgI/видео.html
@@justsingit72 - It's remarkable that Rachel also plays guitar. Saw that grimace that guitarist makes when they miss a note or two. I couldn't play the kazoo without screwing it up.
I had the pleasure of meeting Carl a couple years back at one of his art shows. Fifteen or so people in a small room with his creations on display for three hours. Talk about stories. He's a genuinely nice guy with a good sense of humor. I enjoyed the time very much, and oh yeah, I have the piece named "Knife Edge" hanging on my living room wall. Thanks Carl. Hi Bruce -(Carl's Manager).
With all due respect to all, Carl's drums simply soar over the other instruments, of course... a nice moment to get in touch with ELP's music, in an elegant, unpretensious tribute... he is clever not to feature any vocalist or keyboardist here, since it would surely be useless, and very badly received. Saw this show very recently here in São Paulo and it was quite nice, given the proportions. A very nice opportunity to say 'goodbye'' to the show that never ends, and to watch and listen to Carl's incredible, untouched virtuosism. And of course it is for all of us, hardcore ELP fans...an elegant tribute, not to be compared to ELP
"he is clever not to feature any vocalist or keyboardist here, since it would surely be useless, and very badly received." - Agree, except that it wouldn't be 'badly received', just received differently. It just couldn't measure up to the original... folks that have listened to the original for the past few decades would be thinking "Oh, cool... wait, that's not right!"
Always loved Carl's playing. Like to see him do something with Key's and a vocalist and recreate the ELP sound. Seen ELP back in the 70's, it was incredible!!!! Hoping to catch him in Hershey Pa. in August.
Really impossible So high level of the musicians...... What's a duet and voicing between the bass / guitar.... Arranges, groove, timing.... Biggest respect
I know right? This is phenomenal, and it's great to see rock vets make their own combos, like jazz musicians do. One comment basically said the guitarist sucks. Seriously? Another says no double kick drum? WTF does he want, the elevator music version?
As posted earlier: "Sooo tired of the guitar playing ELP music. Carl's been doing this for many years now and while great playing.....ELP music without the synth is like taking a shower and not changing your underwear."
Time to move on...TP. Carl Palmer has put together a great Bassist and guitarist in memory of Keith and Greg. They would be proud! I hope I hear more of this band. Thanks to The Miraverse for posting.
Just saw him in March 2018 and he is STILL fantastic! Plays with energy and passion of a man half his age & he had just turned 68 the week before!!! I was just 5 feet in front of him and he is so incredible!
I saw these three at in Portland Or. about a year ago. Carl has NOT lost a step he was blazing from start t finish!! And these two young guy he had with him were amazing!!
Saw them last month. Superb musicianship. Very small but very appreciative crowd. Toward the end, there was a video montage of ELP news clippings that accompanied a ferocious "Nutrocker." Can't deny that there were a few chills when one realized just how massive they were in the day. My teenage son was awestruck.
Seen E L P in Grand Rapids, Michigan back in the 1990's. What a great show it was!!. Good to see Carl Palmer still beating the hell out of thoes drums!!.
Can't stand when people talk about someone being the 'fastest drummer of all time'. Fast doesn't make someone good. Not saying Carl Palmer isn't amazing, but let's stop with using 'fast' as a measurement of someone's skill.
I agree. Speed doesn´t make someone the best drummer. Palmer is one of the greatest because he shows great chops and musicality in every note he plays.
The greatest rock guitarists, kath, zappa, Clapton, derringer, Hendrix, etc. ALL known for speed as well as whatever else was their specialty. Greatest bass, entwistle was the fastest rock bass player ever. Keith emerson greatest rock keyboard, also the fastest. Carl palmer, greatest rock drummer, fastest too. You can be a great player without being able to be fast, as in maca, but not considered a monster player without the ability...jmho.
@@dude4173 Also pertains to other music. Greatest jazz guys ever Charlie parker, dizzy Gillespie, etc, also the fastest. Clasical greats you have no choice. If Beethoven wrote for fast in one of his speed demon string quartets, if you can't do speed, no gig.
The Great Carl Palmer, Never truly got the full recognition that he rightfully deserved among the elite drummers from yesteryear! I recently saw them perform at the Palace Theater in Greensburg, PA as the opening for YEStival. Carl and his friends were incredibly high energy and he seemed to be truly enjoying what he was doing--a comment I'm afraid I cannot make for the others sharing his bill.
Brilliant! I saw these guys a few years ago in Northampton, MA (come back, my friends!). Carl and Co. were on FIRE! My only opportunity to have ever seen Carl play in person and I was delighted. Got as close to him in front as I possibly could and the power was earth shattering...even now, in his golden years! These guys do an amazing job translating the classic ELP material for gtr, bass and drums (w/o vocals). Obviously, it loses a little something w/o Keith and Greg but this is as close as you'll get now to a true tribute to ELP, with one of rock's all-time towering infernos still holding court on the drums! With guys like Neil Peart retiring (who was heavily influenced by CP in his orchestrated playing style and blazing chops as well as his spinning drumkit), it's awesome to see the ORIGINAL still out there killin' it!
Carl Palmer is deserving of all the praise and honors that the world can give to a great musician. This video is fantastic.
