I think the minis market is one of the only one’s where you see big jumps happening every 6 months. This is what the PC market was like in the mid to late 90s all the way up to mid 00s (maybe even later). I find it really exciting.
@@unexplained_entity7514 oculink is really making these machines exciting for sure! And now that there are good quality oculink docks out there it’s even easier to jump in. Thunderbolt 5 has 120Gbps of single-direction bandwidth and 240 watts of power delivery it can on its own drive some mid tier graphics cards. That would make eGPU docks even simpler.

Think about this, with the eGPU, a Steam Deck, Virtrue glasses, and keyboard/mouse when needed. This could be a portable pc that can handle any games the Steam deck could not. I could see using the Virtrue glasses and keyboard/mouse being good for need to use the device locally. This would mean I can take this with me on vacations. Pretty cool, when you think about it.
This is actually a very cool setup. Its the only system that looks good sitting backwards on the desk although the front looks best!! I still don't understand why all these manufacturers insist on putting the oculink port on the front of mini PC's.. i would have fit on the back of the device obviously its even got enough space inside to run a passthrough cable from the front of the board to the back.. especially if you cut off the cable end and remove the port and solder the wires directly to the PCB and run it to the back of the PC. Or just design the PCB with oculink at the rear end and put the USB C 4 link to the front!! So it can definitely be made better but its a very powerful system as it is and intel arc GPU will still game at a 60fps instead of 180fps
At that price might as well buy a laptop, and if you really need space, just buy one of those under desk laptop mounts, boom, space problem solved, and you get a much faster device for the same price or even less.

Bit late, but Oculink supports 64 Gbps data transfer rate, compared to USB 4/Thunderbolt at 40 Gbps, while also having less overhead and also having a directer route to the CPU. Thunderbolt 5 will roughly be comparable to Oculink, once you factor in overhead, etc. but isn't yet widely available. Faster versions of Oculink are also a thing, but also not commercially available yet. Practically, this means Oculink throttles high end GPU's far less than Thunderbolt, under 10% typically (5-7% in most tests) for 4090, giving almost the same performance as if it was built in to a desktop. A 4090 over Thunderbolt gives something like 20-30% performance loss due the lower data transfer rate.

no usb overhead, less latency

RIP intel processor
Please also test without frame gen! If you only test with it, I am not interested. And if you continue to do so, you will lose me as a subscriber.
I do not know what its benefit is. If you are stable and do not move, a PC will be a more powerful deal for the same price. Also, if you are moving, a laptop will work better, because with this device you will need a screen anyway. Frankly, I do not know what the significance of a device is.
I have a use case living in a tent on deployment. I don’t necessarily want a laptop because I have a legion go so this should work well with my Arzopa 144 hz 1080p monitor.
So ps5 technically beats it cos I mean rift apart runs really well on ps5 compared to this mini pc. Practically all games run at higher resolutions and stable framerates on ps5
... and it does so at less than half the price.
