  • In this video we cover two days down in Northumberland where Sean and I tackle a couple big days on nice shearing sheep.
    Can we get them all done?
    Leave a comment if you have any suggestions for improving the videos!
    Thanks!

    ABOUT ME
    I’m 30 years old and I’m a sheep farmer from Ayrshire in South West Scotland. That’s why I have such a strong accent!! I was born and raised in sheep with my dad being a shepherd on an Ayrshire farm.
    At 18 I went away from farming to work in the city (something I still do) and at 23 (2013) I decided I wanted to do something for some extra money so I went on a sheep shearing course. The hardest thing I’ll ever do was learning to shear sheep.
    I shore whilst on my holidays from work for 2 years and then, in 2015, my dad died so I decided to get my own sheep so I could keep my hand in. From there it escalated quickly from my first 4 sheep in my mum’s garden to now running around 600 ewes.
    I shear over 10,000 sheep a season in UK and I also travel to Norway for shearing in March and September.
    A few years ago I bought myself a sheep scanner and have been building up my run since then so I have a good income stream in summer and winter.
    I watched a few farm vlogs on RUclips and decided I could have a go and now here we are!
    Thanks for watching my videos and please subscribe if you want to see more in future.

    • @wendyrowland7787
      @wendyrowland7787 4 года назад +2

      Simone Varey Mules are usually a cross between the Blue Leister and the Scottish Mountain or Swaledale. The shearers love them as they have no belly wool, so they get to shear a lot faster. You are probably looking at carpet yarn.

    • @TheSheepGame

      Knowledge IsPower a mule is a maternal breed of sheep. It is a cross of a hill breed such as the Scottish black face and a blue face leister (upland breed) so you get the Hardiness and maternal instincts of a hill breed and the larger frame and a more prolific traits from the blue face. This then allows farmers to have a more prolific ewe with hybrid vigour which a terminal (lowland) breed such as texel is then used with the mule ,with the aim to produce 2 lambs per ewe reaching a weight of 44kg in around 16 weeks compared to say 1 lamb from a hill ewe weighing 35kg in 24 weeks.
