I know this video is older, but when I first seen the stuff used in the video, I thought it was cat liter in that bag, not sand and I got so excited for a minute there...becasue I had found a blog YEARSSS ago that used kitty liter, NOT the clumping kind but the regular clay kind and she had gotten it Dollar Tree, she used it to age pots etc and for the life of me I havent been able to find that tutorial OR anyone else who tried it ever again and I did try it myself and it came out pretty good! The non clumping cat liter has clay (if you can find the ones without the colored crystals or scent crystals, its even better) in it & when I tried it (by the time I found the right cat litter) the blog was already gone...so I ended up crushing the clay down a bit then added it to paint and it actually worked pretty good. Id love to see someone else try it and see what they think. I dont think I crushed down enough of the clay lumps or maybe itd be better to dissolve in a little water bc the clumping got pretty big and it lumped up fast and I got nervous and tried to speed through it before it dried, but I always meant to try it again! The lady whose blog I found years ago used it to age terra cotta pots and it just looked SO real!

Why add plaster of Paris?? Surely the paint and sand will work just the same?

I would think it might want to crack and peel off easy.

Thanks for watching ❤️ I don’t think it would work well on plastic! If you did try it I would prime first

Maybe add some white glue into the recipe to help it stick to plastic!

I did one!!! It is fuuun! I used REALLY dark brown paint. So dark that I don’t like it. I’m thinking of adding sort of dashes, I don’t know how to explain it, in metallic gold. I don’t like the way distressing with a light color looks over this color. What about a sort of white wash? Making very thin white paint? Any suggestions? I could send you a picture on messenger if that helps. What color is the first one you made? That would look good on it too.

Hey there! A white wash would work perfect! Always do it with a dry brush technique so you don’t put to much on at once . ☀️

    Plaster of Paris? What's that?

    • @OurUpcycledLife

You can find it in your hardware store. It is used for drywall and when added to paint makes it chalky

I had to check that my playback speed was set on normal because it seemed you were talking very very fast.

Hmmm sometimes I get going to fast... and need to talk slower. People are so busy though, I like to make a video that is straight to the point .
