    Hey seth, kqbj here super glad to see someone else on the deck definitely some misplays but not unsurprising being an inexperienced cedh player and newer to the deck, love to see the deck popping off if anyone's interested or has questions about the list feel free to dm me. Seth actually had the win at 35:00 and could have stopped with his Ad Nauseum
    Crim has one blue floating so we have to play around Spell Pierce, but we can Pact of Negation at any time to stop that
    Play the Tropical Island
    Dark Ritual, 1 B and 1 G in pool, 4 B and 1 G after resolution.
    Vampiric Tutor for Snap. 3 B and 1 G floating
    Cycle the Veil of Summer, since Crim cast Ad Naus this turn we draw a card. 3 B in pool. Spells can no longer be countered this turn.
    Cast Snap on an elf, using the tropical island and a floating black, untapping tropical island and underground sea. 2 B in pool, Topical Island and Underground Sea untapped.
    Tap the Tropical Island and Underground Sea for UU, cast Oracle, Consultation in response to the Oracle trigger, name Abandon Hope. 1 B in pool for the Mana Tithe just in case.

      The best part is the table politics. It doesn't happen nearly as much in cEDH because there are no politics to be had. People know the threats of the table and want to get rid of them while progressing themselves, no need to bargain. If they deemed it a large enough threat then they either know that you desperately needed it gone to and are wary of you or they take it as a favor and remember it.
      Edit: the unfortunate thing is that the only politics involve playing around rhystic or the fish. There's always that one person that throws everything out the window because they assume they can turbo faster even though the fish has drawn them 13 cards. Can speak from experience as a fish player. Once had a game that I vast esper sentinel, fish, rhystic, copied fish, and sorcery speed teferi by turn 4. Everyone scooped because they didn't have enough removal to handle the 3 or 4 cards I'd draw from it and the 3 free counters in hand.

We have fun playing cool and fast decks, and you and others might like grinder more voltron-ey games, and there’s nothing wrong with that. • @PKDoesStuff

    I think I've got Phil's win on turn 9.
    Play Chrome Mox pitching Rishkar's Expertise. Use Sol Ring + 5 Forests + Fyndhorn + Marwyn to play both Temur Sabertooth and Ashaya, leaving Nykthos untapped. Ashaya turns Eternal Witness and Scryb Ranger into Forests; tap those for the two mana to activate Nykthos, making 9 Green mana. Use Sabertooth's ability to bounce and replay Fyndhorn twice, putting two counters on Marwyn and leaving GGG floating. Activate Scryb Ranger, targeting Marwyn and returning itself (since Ashaya makes it a forest). Now you have a loop - Marwyn taps for 3 and Scryb Ranger costs 2 to play and then untap Marwyn bouncing itself, so you generate G each loop. (Once you have 5 mana you can bounce and replay Fyndhorn to grow Marwyn and speed up the loop for MODO.) Here you can either make enough mana to loop Fyndhorn to grow Marwyn to lethal, or make enough mana, then use Sabertooth to pick up and replay Eternal Witness to get back Ezuri to pump Marwyn for lethal.
    There are probably other lines, but I had to sit with the video paused for several minutes to work out all of this one, and I don't blame Phil for missing it.

    Pro tip: you CAN activate Inventors' Fair's search ability even if you only control say, three treasures. FIRST you announce your intent to activate the ability. THEN the ability checks for "metalcraft." 3 artifacts = OK. THEN you have the chance to activate mana abilities, so you can sacrifice the treasures to pay. THEN the ability goes on the stack, even if you don't control 3 artifacts anymore.

    Brain Freeze also finds its way into cEDH as a hate card against certain strategies to kill them when they try to win. A good example is against Doomsday. You let Doomsday resolve and then when they go to cast a card draw spell, you Brain Freeze them and it often can mill them out even if they have counter spells because of how storm works and then their card draw resolves and they lose.

    Torpor Orb for elves will likely want to use a creature like Viridian Zealot, which is usually worse than Rec Sage, but has upsides in a case like this. Cursed Totem is probably more of a problem, but Rec Sage, the better card, hits that like a bullseye. Elfball is actually more troubled by hatebears I think, though most hatebears don't interfere very much with elfball, the ones that do are very hard for G to deal with. CoCo is probably a good enough card for elfball, but you're more or less paying 4 to draw 2 cards and cheat them into play, but they have to be small creatures. You'll probably find mana dorks, which can be good I guess.
    Re-Blood Moon, I like having Back to Basics out with Energy Flux or Archon of Emeria, any pairing really cripples what people can do. If you get out all 3, it's probably time for people to scoop, unless they run lots of mana dorks/basics. On the very significant downside, you can have an opening hand with no mana rocks sometimes and 3 of the same basic land, because you want to run quite a few with Back, and you don't really want to run more than 10 mana rocks if you're packing Energy Flux. Still, that isn't a particularly likely hand, and running that pile of cards is much cheaper than buying all the pricey duals and mana rocks, and it does a decent job of making all those cards feel really bad. Long story short, Blood Moon without additional support might feel a bit lean.
    I feel like you should pick a lane when it comes to Ad Naus and Peer... Maybe in Ikra, where the life gain can actually make playing both a relevant possibility they both work, but in Tiamat it seems like you're not going to gain much life. I also agree, Ad Naus seems actively bad in a deck with that many big hits, but it's a good desperation card, where you might get lucky and steal a game you'd have otherwise lost, because 5 mana to draw 10-20 cards can close some games. So yeah, looked at the decklist, I think Ad Naus has no business there, not only do you have 2 7s, and a 6, you have 5 other 5 drops. Peer and another tutor to find Peer seems like what he should be running over Ad Naus if they want to run big clunky cards.
    It's always fun watching people play cEDH that aren't really used to playing such difficult decks. I have a deck that is pretty hard to pilot, so I end up punting all the time when I play it, but it's a good enough deck that it can still win sometimes, even with me punting. It's in the awkward space where it really isn't cEDH, but it's also too pushed for most casual play (it's all in on infinite combo, though the combos can be pretty nifty/require several weird cards to work together). It actually doesn't do anything obnoxious other than infinite combo, and it almost always wins when it goes infinite (and can do so quickly), so it's not worst offender for this type of deck.
    My unasked for opinion about cEDH and what is 'strong enough' is that your deck needs to be able to either stop at least 1 win attempt by turn 3 with no help (this means 2 good pieces of interaction usually, 1 of which must be a hard counter), or it needs to be threatening a win itself *consistently*. In cEDH that means threatening the early win by turn 3 with ~half of your possible hands (IE you struggle to draw bad hands, IE all lands is still playable with your Commander somehow). If your deck isn't doing either of those things, it's not really a 'good' cEDH deck. There aren't decks that are consistent before turn 3 AFAIK, but plenty of decks can threaten early wins on a lucky draw, forcing people to have interaction or just lose. Stax is the closest thing to an exception, where you try to have something heinous set up by turn 3 that makes it very hard to win through. Winter Orb, Cursed Totem, Rule of Law, Contamination, all those nasty cards that really mess with the game can make up for lacking counter magic sometimes. If it didn't, we'd see very few non-blue decks tbh. That said, counters are more or less king, so if you wonder if you deck is going to be easy to play in cEDH, you should at least have 1 of these 3; counters, stax, or a very fast and consistent combo. Many great decks feature all 3 of those to good effect.

    Crim needed 1 more land to cast Opposition Agent to stop Seth. That's kind of funny. If Richard had Blast Zoned the Grand Abolisher, Crim could have casted the Opposition Agent with Dream Halls.

    Could Phil have gone infinite with the Vitalize he exiled to cast Force of Vigor using Ashaya? Untap all creatures, make enough mana to bounce Eternal Witness, play it, get back Vitalize, repeat infinitely and eventually win from there?

    • @Deris76
      @Deris76 2 года назад

      Yea vitalize can go infinite, but you'd need more than 6 creatures to break even : 2 for the sabertooth activation, 3 for eternal witness, and then 1 for vitalize. If you have 7 creatures that doesnt have summoning sickness, it goes infinite! Marawyn helps a lot tho, if she's a 3/3+, she can reduce the amount of required creatures ;) !

    I feel cedh is very skill intensive. Due to being high powered and singleton, probably even more so than older formats.

    • @Deris76
      @Deris76 2 года назад

      It's very skill intensive indeed, if you built your deck you normally know almost every combo lines, which is something they didnt get to have hahah

    Seth could’ve won. He had 3 life he could’ve cast vampiric tutor for a mana rock and then veil of summer to draw it. Then he still has pact of negation to deal with Crims counterspell.
