To the person named Matt and Bill : 2-3 Fuel pump(s) in 1985- 1988 (needed low in tank pumps and hi pressure pump on the frame rail) 1989+ was single hi press fuel pump in each tank. you don't need the TAD and TAB solenoids for the EFI to run. Delete all the emissions crap the Cat, air pump, solenoids, valves and block the thermactor holes in the back of the cylinder heads.. EGR (will set the CEL tho) you should be upgrading to a 3G 130A alternator as the stock 2G alternator is known to ford as a fire hazard. the distributor has 2 devices for the EFI to run the TFI module and the PIP sensor which acts like cam position sensor. EECs of this vintage can and will go flaky (like failed capacitors) which can cause all kinds of shit and driveability issues. Any sensors on the engine you should try and replace with motorcraft OEM pieces when available as some Chinese parts at the parts store have been known to be dead in the box. EGR is a useless function, it basically filthys up all the sensors and causes issues when the system fails. Also the wiring and connectors itself are 30+ years old. your fuel system and lines are 30 years old. proper fuel pressure is a must so get a gauge to check pressures when you have running issues. also a Haynes and a chiltons manual will tell you a bunch on how to test the sensors. A Multimeter for diag is a must. EEC IV is a simple system however it's antiquated and has a limited range for tuning. but if your using proper procedures and decent parts it can be fixed. (is it worth it thats up to you) Also a piece of jumper wire for the EEC and FP relays is all you need to bypass them for testing purposes, no need to modify the engine harness. A lot of folks now are either deleting the EFI and going with a carb to avoid these issues and potential ones or are going to stand alone EFI as well which has advantages and disadvantages as well. Lots can be done but whats your end goal is the point. No right or wrong answer here. Join groups on facebook for these trucks. lots of info there. Fullsizebronco, FTE, are other good sites.
