I also want to thank both of yall for making me alot better of a fisherman. I have learned a TON from yall. Thanks so much.

Yes I was watching Tim fishing and I don't understand why he kept fishing off the front of the boat consistently instead of scattering at around the boat possibly to catch more fish if you could answer that for me that would be great?
And when I'm watching Matt fish he fixes all over the boat not just in one area I was just taken by that and couldn't understand why you would just fish off the front of the boat consistently for hour at a time
Once you become proficient in cranking, you'll want to be an expert in lure retrieval. Losing your favorite crank can be a total bummer. Props to tactical bassin for a really great primer on lure retrieval. A must watch
Love how in depth you go on this type of stuff! Without these videos I would be spending entirely to much money on rods alone trying to find out what rods work for which types of cranks!
Even watching this in northern Europe, mainly fishing for pikes and zanders/pikeperch, i really apreciate all the honest infos i can get from all of your videos. Thank you so very much, not only for making me NOT spending my money on bad/not fitting equipment! It's a pitty that u don't do (northern) Pike/Musky videos and guides... ; ))
Whenever I watch your guys' amazing videos and start adding things to my cart on TW it makes me very thankful I'm single and have no one to be mad at me for spending so much on gear 🤣
Thank you Matt and Tim! I've been speed cranking on my home lake here in California and each day I go out I'm the only guy catching fish with others slow fishing bottom contact with no luck. One guy even told his buddy I was reeling my bait too fast and that's not how you want to work it (lol). I've been on a budget and historically have never fished crankbaits much so I was having to crank on my 6'6 medium heavy bass x rod. Today I lost a few fish due to my rod so I invested in the Dobyn's, very excited.
Great video guy I watch a lot of the hookup cause I live in Az and a lot of what they say is true and good info they have trouble sometimes not giving good enough budget options not everyone is on a boat, I use a kayak and need one rod to do it all and you guys nailed it thanks.
Great video guys! I'm brushing up on my crankbait knowledge. Lots of great options. I've had a lot of success on Rapala DT's in the Shad color. I don't know what it is, but it just seems to flat catch 'em on these northern natural lakes. I also really like Bluegill, Parrot, and Red Crawdad. Those four colors in the DT6, 10, and 16 and I'm set most of the time!
That tactical DD has slated them for me in the middle of summer here in Illinois in some of the power plant lakes when other deep divers just don’t get bit had some really good days like 30/40+ fish on it great bait simply fantastic
Well done guys!!! Love the tactical cranks and Rapala DT series. Only other one is the bandit line - 200 - 300 series fills a nice mid depth. Caught a bunch of solid bass in 46 degree water in MA yesterday speed cranking the tactical crank and also jerk baiting with the lucky craft SP. It was interesting as I needed to pause the jerkbait up to 15 seconds to get them to react but they were aggressively eating the crankbait. Two totally different speeds / cadences. I’ve been using my Dobyns Champion 734 for the Tactial Crank and it’s been working well.
Isn't it fascinating?! That's EXACTLY what we experienced when this started. Why does one have to go so slow but the other can unleash a feed response like nothing else?! Its amazing!!
I use the champion xp glass in the 7'3" heavy version for the 8 and 10 xd. Seems to keep them pegged pretty well with EWG hooks. It has a nice parabolic action.
Love the dd crank you guys made ...caught a 4.10 on it in ultra clear water 30 ft of visibility water Temps in the 50s by no means a giant but a really nice fish up here in Massachusetts ..thanks guys!
I am not that good with crankbaits. I have trouble handling the treble hooks but I know that practice makes perfect and believe me I need a lot of practice. Thanks for the detail video.
Spro rock crawler, both the 50 and the 55 in phantom brown and ozark craw were absolutely deadly for me this year. Paired up with the st croix victory 72 mhm.
i was leaning towards the dobyns xp especially since since on sale at tw but seems like zodias is more apt to handle other scenarios that dont involve deep divers and speed cranking 🤘
Caught a nice 3lber on speed cranking in a small body of water with small fish in it, can't wait to expand on this technique, thx tactical, happy holidays
You guys never disappoint. Great video! Might be too late to be seen by you but I’ll ask anyway. {Do you have any bait or gear tips on cold water cranking in DIRTY COLD water?} My local lake (only a few hours from Clear Lake) is 12-18 inches visibility 12 months a year from one end to the other. Very fertile water. Any tips? Thanks again guys and thanks for one of the best channels out there.
Man that tactical crank has just been killing this summer. Just today over 30 fish. While everyone was tossing little flukes for the schooling fish I was going deep. Nothing under 3lbs a few 4’s. This has been the norm for the last two months atleast twice a week. I was hollering like a nut case for hours. And I tried other cranks but no dice. Put the tactical dd back on and it’s game on again and again.
Have you guys tried the St. Croix Legend Glass rods? They are similar to the Mojo Glass but with Fuji Alconite guides and the awesome 15 year warranty. Other than for my magnum and/or extra deep cranking needs (Phenix X-14 7'11" H composite, need the graphite for driving those bigger hooks in) I rely on these rods for cranking. They took crankbaits from one of my back seat techniques to a giga-confidence technique. Also sort of surprised you haven't had success cold water speed cranking with the Rapala DTs. For me, the DTs outfish any other crankbait in frigid water and I fish them fast. If they really aren't going for fast, I fish a shad rap instead.
I’m going to pick up some Deps Evokes on the TW sale. That’s the new crankbait that Kenta Kimura designed and has been a hit with bassmaster elite series guys
For shallower cold water cranking is the Ott Defoe garage crank acceptable? I think I remember you testing it one winter but I’m not sure it was true cold water cranking or just fall crankbait fishing. I tried cranking on my home water with a tactical crank and promptly wedged it into the bottom.
We have tryed so hard to get this technique to work on the delta have some luck on deep x 100 but anything deeper haven't been able to find success.... we miss yall in cali no more delta love 😢
Thanks guys for everything you do. After watching all of your cranking videos im seriously torn between the Dobyns 805 & Zodias glass rod. I plan to throw & speed crank your Tactical DD, DD22s, & 6XD/8XD mainly. 10xd maybe rarely. Please help me make this decision LOL Thanks 😅
Personally I'd go Zodias glass. The shorter glass action loads incredibly deep and keeps them pinned on a variety of hooks. But if the 10XD becomes a primary bait, you're better off with the 805 for sure.
hi, I'm having a hard time which fishing rod is which on the website you mention loomis 968 but when I click on the link I only see a choice of length and MH/H and so on. what classification is it on a stick?? best regards Pierre
We had to cut it off somewhere. The Big M and about 4 or 5 other baits just didn't quite slip in this time around. We always sit afterwards and debate what should or shouldn't have made the cut 😀
Learned so many valueable things from your videos, thanks for all the effort you are putting in making them! On the topic of deep cranking: wouldn't sinking crankbaits be an option to reach and successfully fish these deeper depths. Maybe also an opportunity to down size the cranks. Any experience and tips on that?
I love lipless crankbaits. I haven't had much luck with any other hard baits. I might have to have a go at that DD though. Rabbit hole for sure.. haha. 🤘🏻
If you were to recommend a method to learn first when first getting into bass fishing what would it be . Want to get gear but don't know where to start . I have a MH 7ft fast action . Should I focus on learning Finesse fishing more first . Looking for quantity over quality for right now.
Can you use the intenza 7’6” glass for 6xd and 10xd without maxing out the rod like you talked about at the end? Or would you recommend getting another rod for bigger and deeper cranks?
I'm loving this series...I have for the past couple of years! THANKS! Is there a way to get your input on possible early Spring fishing destinations in Tennessee...just some pointers? I'd be coming from Michigan.
@@tacticalbassin Thanks! I am a kayak fisherman...unfortunately at this time a paddle kayak fisherman. Does that make a difference? I know, from your video's, that Chickamauga is huge...
I’m purchasing either the NRX+ 904c MBR or the NRX+ 844c MBR today…Can I deep crank with them? I’m only 5’-9” and a little concerned about the longer 904. What techniques can I fish on these ( A-rig, glide, flip/pitch jigs)? Would you go for the longer 904 rod or stay with the 844? I already have the NRX+ 843 MBR if that helps you make your suggestion.
I really like that 844 (personal preference). If it were me, I'd stay there. The 4 power isn't a giant step up from the 3 power... its not quite as stout as you're thinking. Bigger jigs, you can crank in a pinch (I landed a big one on video recently doing exactly that), worms, texas rigs, etc... Probably not glide, A rig, Flip.
I would love to throw more crank baits but I'm dealing with shallow & weedy. (Long Island, NY) Most places here don't exceed 8' deep so most crank baits are out. Any recommendations?
Do you happen to lightly file down the bill? I only ask is cause I found one of my tacktical DDs got nicked and the abrasion on the bill transferred to my line and I broke off on a log. I was all sad. So I check my bill and line to prevent that.
We just fish with them. They'll naturally sand themselves down over time, it's just part of grinding along the bottom. That shouldn't ever knick your line though because the dive angle keeps the line up and away from the bill.
St Croix's Bass X, medium heavy moderate action, 7'2" is a phenomenally cheap option for larger squarebills and lipless cranks, havent really tried it on deep divers but it seems to have the back bone, just think the big honkin deep divers would be too much for it. I'd like to try it with your tactical DD since its a smaller deep diver with less drag as it swims. The rod is also my favorite finesse jig rod, it just does alot if anyone needs a budget rod for this style of fishing.
With The IMX 906 and 845 CBRs out of stock and the sale ending today, does one go to the 845 GCX or go over to a Dobyns Champion XP 765 or 705 for 6XD and your Tactical cranks?
@@tacticalbassin you guys are awesome! Unbelievable you have the time to respond to folks considering how busy you must be. It means a lot when you do that!
What do you guys think of the suspending Shad Rap RS or the Suspending Fat Free Shad (like the Suspending Fingerling or Fry) for speed cranking in cold water? I've always wondered why you guys don't favor suspending crankbaits for your cold water "BURN BURN BURN... pause" classic retrieve.
The honest reason we lean away from suspending baits is we go with heavy hooks (which makes them sink) and we would lose a TON of them when they didn't float back out of snags.
Awesome video as always Matt and Tim. Definitely timed well as I finish out my Black Friday cart on TW. I watched this a second time after I thought the impossible happened, but did you make it through this entire video without a strong BURN BURN BURN PAUSE?!
I'm so surprised to hear Matt's favorite is the Azuma.... That thing is HUGE! I've caught them with it though. It'll cast a mile with the right setup also
Hey guys, thanks for the video! I am brand new to crankbaits, haven’t even thrown one. I got a bunch of crankbaits from my grandpa while I was visiting him over the holidays. I got the full spectrum of shallow to deep. I was wondering what your thoughts are on the Duckett Silverado med/heavy for cranking? Are there better rods in the $100 range?
Great video! Thanks again. Quick question: I currently own the Dobbyn's 805 CB rod for heavy cranking, but I need other rods for "Traditional Size" crankbaits, Squarebills, and Lipless crankbaits. Your favorite rods, in the Loomis IMX Pro lineup for these types of baits is the 906 CBR for "Traditional Size" cranking and 845 CBR for the Squarbills and Lipless Crankbaits. These rods are both Medium Heavy rods with very similar characteristics with the main difference being the 906 is 7'6" and the 845 is 7'. Would just one of these rods work for all three cases? If so, which would excel the most between the 906 and 845 if you wanted only one rod for these three techniques? I should mention that I also intend to purchase the Loomis 843C MBR if that makes a difference, and I would consider the Megabass Flat Side Special in place of either the 906 or 845 CBR rods. Thanks.
Thanks for the advice. I went ahead with the purchase of the Megabass Flat Side Special for Rattletraps/Squarebills plus other uses. Plan to pick up the 906 when it is back in stock. Appreciate the details you give in the guides. Thanks.
Great video as always! So just wondering as a novice fisherman here. I started out throwing the academy sports brand and when I started looking at "better" crankbaits I went 6th sense, I've watched a lot of yalls videos and can only remember hearing them once. So my question is do yall use them much, and what is your overall thoughts on their stuff?
Tons of great info once again, thanks guys! If you had to pick one reel for deep cranking - which would it be, the Tranx 200 or Bantam MGL? Both great reels, but I’ve already got the Orochi Launcher and need to pick the best reel for it. Thanks.
LOVE IT! Probably my favorite technique overall... And don't say topwater because everyone knows that it's the best 😅 but I'm referring to the other favorite, year round technique. As a huge Megabass fan, gotta say, it's ridiculous that they put such garbage hardware on the crankbaits🤦♂️
You know.. the hooks on the Deep X 300 aren't bad if you're cranking on ultralight tackle but I dumped a 12+ on a bend out once... and only once... I upgrade them all now... and will never stop. 👍
@@tacticalbassin ahh that hurt just telling me about it! I know it did lol I haven't really fished the 300 though. I was mostly referring to the Deep 6
Hey guys I enjoy your videos very helpful thank you so much. I've tried cranking a few time no luck though. I'm looking to get the right set up. So in this particular video the rods you suggested are they medium heavy, heavy, fast, extra fast? Maybe I don't have the terminology correct. Thank you
I really enjoy shallow & deep cranking. Still not proficient but getting better at finding the right spots. I asked a question in the high end rod series but got no response. Your thoughts on the Millerod series? I bought the Swimsanity, very happy with it. Any in the series you’ve tried?
@@tacticalbassin I have called your (Matt’s) number several times (707 area code with a voicemail that confirms Matt Allen) to set up an on site visit and have not received a return call. Is there a better number to call? Would love to fish Chic sometime, or an Alabama lake of your choice, please let me know how to contact for a reservation.
this channel is so underrated, got all of my baits/rods/reels from here. Easily my overall favorite fishing channel :)

You guys are so awesome
I would love to throw more crank baits but I'm dealing with shallow & weedy. (Long Island, NY) Most places here don't exceed 8' deep so most crank baits are out. Any recommendations?
The video for you is still to come 👍
Do you happen to lightly file down the bill?
I would think that would be fine with our crank 👍
Great video and awesome tips
Thanks Rich!
With The IMX 906 and 845 CBRs out of stock and the sale ending today, does one go to the 845 GCX or go over to a Dobyns Champion XP 765 or 705 for 6XD and your Tactical cranks?
I'd go to the GCX. Its the identical action, just a slightly downgraded blank (which is not a big deal when cranking).
@@tacticalbassin you guys are awesome! Unbelievable you have the time to respond to folks considering how busy you must be. It means a lot when you do that!
Hey I never see anything about jointed crank baits. Just wondering if you could shed some light on that
Matt/Tim what’s a good budget crankbait rod?
tactical on the zodias glass im assuming it was the 7'6" mh glass? ty
Thats correct 👍🏼
What do you guys think of the suspending Shad Rap RS or the Suspending Fat Free Shad (like the Suspending Fingerling or Fry) for speed cranking in cold water? I've always wondered why you guys don't favor suspending crankbaits for your cold water "BURN BURN BURN... pause" classic retrieve.
The honest reason we lean away from suspending baits is we go with heavy hooks (which makes them sink) and we would lose a TON of them when they didn't float back out of snags.
@@tacticalbassin I really appreciate the prompt reply. I suppose your hook upgrades create suspending cranks, never thought of that.👍🏻🙌🏻
KVD was weighting 6xd’s for a long time to get deeper
I love fishing suspended jigs over crqnk baits I just haven’t let myself dive into the crank bait world yet!!!
Take the plunge! Its well worth the effort.
Sup TB!
Anyone know if the 8’0” H+ Expride would make a great deep cranking rod? 10xd etc.
Awesome video as always Matt and Tim. Definitely timed well as I finish out my Black Friday cart on TW. I watched this a second time after I thought the impossible happened, but did you make it through this entire video without a strong BURN BURN BURN PAUSE?!
😂😂 We might have made it!
I caught that too. I was like “Matt did even say it when talking speed cranking “ 😂. #BBBP
Need a BBBP hat/ shirt guys
I'm so surprised to hear Matt's favorite is the Azuma....
That thing is HUGE!
I've caught them with it though. It'll cast a mile with the right setup also
The 22 and 24 are significantly smaller than the 25. That bait slays!!
So what’s so good about the tranx 200?
Good for saltwater keeps water out of those 3 bearings. Lol.
Do you guys have any experience with the new Zodias 7’ 11” glass crank bait rod. If so is it a good option
I haven't put it through the paces yet. I expect it to be an excellent option... but we'll see.
Thanks.
If you're open to a flat side I'd get a 906 and a flat side 👍🏼 That would be fun! If only one, the 845 cbr for sure.
There is alot of really good crankbaits from alot of good companies. When they say rabbit hole they mean it.
6th sense are great baits all around. There are no bad quality baits from them
Tons of great info once again, thanks guys! If you had to pick one reel for deep cranking - which would it be, the Tranx 200 or Bantam MGL? Both great reels, but I’ve already got the Orochi Launcher and need to pick the best reel for it. Thanks.
Bantam MGL for sure. Longer cast distance 👍🏼
@@tacticalbassin sweet, thanks!
Have you tried the slx cranking rods yet?
Is the imx pro 843 mbr ok for 5xd, dt10, rock crawler??
The MBR or CBR?
Oooooo I’ve been waiting for this
Thanks for checking it out!
I know it did lol
I haven't really fished the 300 though.
Thank you
They're medium heavy and moderate
Ive had a hook through my thumb nail and the cartilage in my ear this year pencil popper in the ear and a googan contender Jr for the thumb nail
Ouch!!
Was wondering length of leader you use on the braid
8-10 feet
Could you deep crank on a spin set up
What is line of choice?
I really enjoy shallow & deep cranking. Still not proficient but getting better at finding the right spots. I asked a question in the high end rod series but got no response. Your thoughts on the Millerod series? I bought the Swimsanity, very happy with it. Any in the series you’ve tried?
Thats one of a very short list of rods we haven't tried.
Surprised I didn’t see the Orochi Launcher on this buyer’s guide
Or Tomahawk
