***** He's referring to the fact that Leonardo has been snubbed at so many awards, but he's not being bitter and sulking, he's applauding Chiwetel and "being a good sport about it".
Well done Chiwetel. You gave an excellent performance in 12 Years a Slave. I like how Leonardo DiCaprio stood up for him as he came up to get his award, shows real class.
It was no surprise to me this film won the Oscar & this man's performance would win numerous awards. This movie should be a mandatary showing to all high school seniors or college freshmen.
It's kind of a joke he hasn't gotten bigger roles since this film, he gave one of the best performances I've ever seen and since then he's mostly been playing the fourth guy in big films
Sidetrack, but Tom Hanks is freaking amazing for being so supportive. If you watch some of the other speeches too, he is whistling and cheering for all the winners. And rightly so!!! Chiwetel was AMAZING in 12 years a slave.
He was truly amazing as Solomon, what a fine actor. That movie was such a heartwrenching story, was gripped all the way. Chiwetel is one of the greats. This story needs to be told in schools to educate, and to keep Solomons story alive.
It's always good to see the other nominees being respectful to the winner; Tom Hanks and Christian Bale have both won sought after awards such as Academy Awards, so it was nice to see that they were clearly happy for Chiwetel Ejiofor here
Congrats Chiwetel! At least the BAFTA gives the actors more time to talk! They don't interrupt the winners speeches with music like the Academy Awards do!
He should have won the Oscar. Rewatching 12 Years a Slave, the performances from himself, Lupita Nyong'o and Michael Fassbender we're all worthy of the wins in their category. Each brought a raw emotion and power to the roles. All snubbed.
You can tell how much the other actors truly loved his portrayal of Solomon Northup. I love Leo, he deserved his Oscar for The Departed as well as The Aviator. The Revenant was great, however, IMO Chiwetel Ejiofor deserved the Oscar.
An incredible performance, but I would be lying if I didn't want DiCaprio to win the Oscar. Not so much for the actual performance, to be honest, but more to make up for how on Earth he hasn't won already.
Very very happy for Chiwetel! I thought he was the best that year and I really hope he gets the oscar even though Matthew McConaughey seems the probable winner..
I can't believe Chiwetel finally got an award, and you losers are ruining the positivity with your complaints about Leo. Did you complain when Matthew McCough(never really figured out how to spell it sorry) won all those other awards? Or was it natural to see him win? He's the big front runner and yet you can't appreciate that an underdog like Chiwetel got at least ONE award this season. Leo doesn't need sympathy, he's been a huge star for years with or without an Oscar. Chiwetel is trying to climb up, and for all we know this may be the peak of his career (which seems often the case with blacks who have a big awards season). So, cut the negativity and give him a clap for winning this once, even if Leo was "better", he lost to someone who did GREAT. He didn't lose to an inferior performance, so wrap your brains around that and think like adults. Duh.
He played American characters so well I did not realize he was British until the movie Love Actually. He played Dewey Hughes, the Brother of Frank Hughes (played by Denzel)in American Gangster, he has become one of my favorite actors, he was awesome as the villain in Serenity as 'The Operative' ....but he ain't quite Denzel.....YET
Leo is the real winner. Some of you maybe don't like The Wolf of Wall Street but his performance is nothing short of spectacular and intense, even better than the frontrunner, Matthew McConaughey. He deserves to win for everything he did in this film (including Candle Scene which is so brave and a lot more) but especially the crawling scene. That scene was filmed for one week and he has bad back pain since then. He put so many efforts into it and the result is incredible. Ok, Matt McConaughey lost some pounds but it does not mean his performance is the best. I was expecting so much more from Dallas Buyers Club, even though I have to admit, Jared Leto's performance as Rayon is definitely the best in the supporting category and he will win. I hoped Leo would win the BAFTA at least, but not only the Oscars are snubbing him for such a long time. He hasn't won BAFTA or SAG yet. This was his best chance to win, but Chiwetel Ejiofor is english, so I was sure he would win this one. I hope Oscar voters reconsider everything, and take a look of how great his performance is (y)
Congrats to Chiwetel, he did a fantastic job and deserved the win. But in my opinion Leonardo DiCaprio's should've won, his performance was so much better. I hope Leo wins the Oscar, he really gave it his all in this film.
No one thanked Brad Pitt oof and Patsey too In Oscars she didn't even hug him😥. I guess it's all the nervousness because Brad Pitt is really good and deserves recognition
They think they were both great in their own way. Chiwetel was sympathetic and heartbreaking, but the performance rarely surprises. Leo was super-intense, loud and physical. Not a subtle performance, but he was so entertaining to watch. I would've given the bafta to Leo, but I'm happy for Chiwetel
Brilliant performance, but Matthew McConaughey should be here. It is a bad thing, as he would have surely won was he nominated, making him one of those sweeping performances, and it is a good thing, as it lets Ejiofor win something.
landondonovanify I don't agree. Leo played a truly horrible character but still had to make him likeable to us and that ending...oh my God that ending.
Michael Colby But Dude. He's a British playing an American Slave. He had to have a rope around his neck. He had to be traumatized during the screening of the film. Obviously, if you have done your history, you would understand how much depth of a character a slave is. To balance the mentality of a slave to the mentality of Solomon Northrup. It is hard to play a slave! But obviously you don't know.
Leonardo giving Chiwetel a standing ovation at 0.22 is just Epic! I respect that!
Why? Why wouldn't he? what happened between them?
***** He's referring to the fact that Leonardo has been snubbed at so many awards, but he's not being bitter and sulking, he's applauding Chiwetel and "being a good sport about it".
Finally, he is being recognized. A great actor.
Eddie Marais Thank you so much Eddie for stating the obvious. I couldn't have said it better.
Arinze Nwokolo Well, it's not really stating the obvious since I don't dwell on other peoples lives like you and others.
Tom Hanks is so nice and whistled! He's so professional - how can anyone not love him!
Well done Chiwetel. You gave an excellent performance in 12 Years a Slave. I like how Leonardo DiCaprio stood up for him as he came up to get his award, shows real class.
I loved his performance in 12 years. So emotional and gut wrenching
He deserved that bafta , what a beautiful performance , I love him ❤️
Well done Chiwetel, a well deserved win you sir are a brilliant actor and deserve everything!. I love how he mentions Ben ;)
Really deserved it, such an incredible performance. He forgot to thank Brad Pitt.
😊
I thought the same!
I love Tom Hanks and Christian Bale's reactions!
lenny mcready Chiwetel is an Actor’s Actor
He is so fine!!💖💖💖💖
I hope he wins at the Oscars.
It was no surprise to me this film won the Oscar & this man's performance would win numerous awards. This movie should be a mandatary showing to all high school seniors or college freshmen.
deserved! a wonderful, intelligent performance.
It's kind of a joke he hasn't gotten bigger roles since this film, he gave one of the best performances I've ever seen and since then he's mostly been playing the fourth guy in big films
I am so happy right now ... the best performance i have ever seen in a film
he should have won the oscar, easily one of the best performances I have ever seen
when the Oscars and BAFTA differ, BAFTA is always right
Sidetrack, but Tom Hanks is freaking amazing for being so supportive. If you watch some of the other speeches too, he is whistling and cheering for all the winners. And rightly so!!! Chiwetel was AMAZING in 12 years a slave.
Congrats Chiwetel for a great job. Deserved.
He was truly amazing as Solomon, what a fine actor. That movie was such a heartwrenching story, was gripped all the way. Chiwetel is one of the greats. This story needs to be told in schools to educate, and to keep Solomons story alive.
I really want Leo to win that oscar, but if any of the nominees win it I won't be let down because they all did a wonderful job.
It's always good to see the other nominees being respectful to the winner; Tom Hanks and Christian Bale have both won sought after awards such as Academy Awards, so it was nice to see that they were clearly happy for Chiwetel Ejiofor here
Dr King Schultz yeah but I can never get why the hell they never giving bafta to christian! He is british after all 🤷♀️ And he is phenomenal
Aww Lupita's mother behind him being all proud of him
He was brilliant, did not have a lot of lines but the look on his face conveyed so many emotions in his scenes.
such an elegant inspiring actor, just life changing performance, well-deserved!
Congrats Chiwetel! At least the BAFTA gives the actors more time to talk! They don't interrupt the winners speeches with music like the Academy Awards do!
am proud of u obinna from Raleigh nc usa your mother and father land is proud of u too Nigeria is proud of you
He should have won the Oscar. Rewatching 12 Years a Slave, the performances from himself, Lupita Nyong'o and Michael Fassbender we're all worthy of the wins in their category. Each brought a raw emotion and power to the roles. All snubbed.
So well deserved. He was Awesome in this movie.
Happy Birthday Chiwetel Ejiofor. Congrats on your success.
An amazing performance! Very well deserved!!!!
Gorgeous actor and a very sympathic and down to earth person!
Wow what an amazing emotional speech... Congrats to him on this well-deserved win.
It's nice to see all the heavy hitters, Pitt, Leo, Hanks, Bale, smiling and supporting the lesser known actors.
Bale , Hanks and Dicaprio look so happy :)
Well deserved!! I hope he wins the oscar too, what a powerful performance
That movie, so heart wrenching for me and many others all over the world
Brad and all the other actors seemed so genuinely happy for him.
most deserving man in the room
You can tell how much the other actors truly loved his portrayal of Solomon Northup. I love Leo, he deserved his Oscar for The Departed as well as The Aviator. The Revenant was great, however, IMO Chiwetel Ejiofor deserved the Oscar.
I am soooooooo proud of his performance!!!!!!!!!!! Wonderful actor:)
When Christian bale smiles. God it makes my day.
On another note it was great to see all the other nominees have a smile on their face at Chiwetel winning,
Aww! He's all teary-eyed, its kinda cute.
He should have won the Oscars for that brilliant performance, one of the best I’ve ever seen
As much as I wanted Leo to win, I'm still happy for Chiwetel Ejiofor! He too did a phenomenal job!
An incredible performance, but I would be lying if I didn't want DiCaprio to win the Oscar. Not so much for the actual performance, to be honest, but more to make up for how on Earth he hasn't won already.
Brilliant. Great actor. Great performance. Great cast.
Sometimes they get it right. This is well deserved.
Amazing actor.
Glad to see he and Michael Fassbender decided to go wit the matching beard look for the BAFTAS!
Very very happy for Chiwetel! I thought he was the best that year and I really hope he gets the oscar even though Matthew McConaughey seems the probable winner..
For the Oscars I think either Leo, Bale, Ejiofor, or McConaughey will win.
Congrats Chiwetel!

Wanted to see him win something. Should have gotten the Oscar.
sad that chadwick bose man died,, hope chiwetel will continue his legacy as black panther
A most remarkable part he played.
The project wouldn't have been possible without Brad Pitt and he didn't even mention him once along ALL those other names..
Chewetel Ejiofor went to my school.Yay
Imagine him winning an oscar. Amazing, the guy has balls.
12 years a slave ...love this film
I hope leo should win the oscar this year because he really deserves this
He should've won the Oscar

He or Matthew should win this year. Both deserve it

What a fucking amazing actor.
1:52 WTF is Ronaldinho doing on the Baftas, sitting behind Tom Hanks?!?!?
It's the guy from Captain Phillips, Barkhad Abdi
His name is Barkhad Abdi and he won best supporting actor in case you were interested.
hahahaha not him
Top 3 Chiwetel Ejiofor's Roles
1st Solomon Northup
2nd Scar
3rd Baron Mordo
He should have won the Oscar.
Damn Tom Hanks whistled.
That’s when you know you’ve made it
He would have weon the Oscar that year.
what music is playing when he walks up? I can't place it.
you forgot to thank one of the producers and fellow actor who is sitting next to the director ......Mr Pitt....
The wrong guy won the Oscar the right guy won the BAFTA
He should've won the Oscar for best lead 😔
True

Can someone let me know the music at 0.06 please?

Typical annoying white Leonardo fan-girl.
Romina Tare wipe your tears he finally won for the Reverant.😎
Congrats to Chiwetel, he did a fantastic job and deserved the win. But in my opinion Leonardo DiCaprio's should've won, his performance was so much better. I hope Leo wins the Oscar, he really gave it his all in this film.

Song starting 00:06 - Mumfort&Sons?
No one thanked Brad Pitt oof and Patsey too In Oscars she didn't even hug him😥. I guess it's all the nervousness because Brad Pitt is really good and deserves recognition
Where's Matthew Mcconaughey?
RIP Black Phanter

Dallas buyers club didn't qualify as it was released in 2014 in UK
this is your moment why cant you go to the barber before?
BAFTA hopers to snap Oscar
Why not brat pitt?
This was Leo's award. End of story.
Evidently it WASN'T - get over it. #EndOfStory #JustSaying
This was Leo's award. End of story.
Diego Manuel Pisfil Ramirez
SO YOU DO AGREE WITH ME!!! I said I wanted the bafta to go to Leo. Learn to read buddy
But chiwetel won. End of story.
Poor Leo 💔
Brilliant performance, but Matthew McConaughey should be here. It is a bad thing, as he would have surely won was he nominated, making him one of those sweeping performances, and it is a good thing, as it lets Ejiofor win something.
Lmao
It wasn't eligible because of the release date for that film in the UK
I love this guy, but Leo dhouldhave won. His performance was mesmerizing and a lot more challenging
How exactly? Playing a slave seems pretty challenging to me, and the emotional range alone was more challenging than what Leo had to do.
landondonovanify I don't agree. Leo played a truly horrible character but still had to make him likeable to us and that ending...oh my God that ending.

I would've given the bafta to Leo, but I'm happy for Chiwetel
Louric Rankine I was not amazed by Ejofor. I kind of felt he was sleepwalking in 12 years a slave.
Would love Leo to win at the Oscars now, maybe the BAFTA's are too biased to British actors and the like.
