As a former Raven (355) I can honestly say this course was one of the most personally satisfying courses I have attended… I went in 1998 and after all these years and several police academies later I am forever a Raven first.

@@honkingonbobo I understand and I've spoken to several airmen like yourself in the career field who didn't want to be a cop and are looking for ways out - what I tell them is this: Security Forces is the largest career field in the US Air Force, that being the case we need a lot of cops who do more than just patrol the base, stand a watch or deploy. We need other cops who enable that mission. Whether that means working a comfy desk job to keep records up to date or RAVEN Defenders who deploy around the world with the aircraft they defend. So while you may not have signed up to be a cop, you can definitely find your place in a career field as large as this one. You want to be a RAVEN, so get ready, be squared away and don't give your leadership a single reason to NOT want to put a package in for you to go to RAVEN school. That starts with taking pride in the place you're in and being the best you can be so you can make your RAVEN dream a reality. Good luck and stay sharp, Defender.

While I was enlisted you had to be stationed at a base that supported that particular mission to even try to go through a particular training course. It wasnt as easy as just submitting a package. If It was that easy, I would never gotten out. I was PRP'd so most of my time in was doing nuclear security. It was hard to get anywhere that wasnt a nuke base. That was part of my decision to get out, the other part was due to my retrain package getting cancelled due to getting orders to Minot.

U work on teams w seals, all af battlefield-tacp/sowt/pjs/cct, army sf, rangers, and protective services for vips and u do tactical driving. U end up w all types of special certs and badges including dive and jump. U can do it in one guard unit, and the few reserve and active duty units. Hope that helps.
The RAVEN course is 22 days, but you first have to be SecFor qualified and then be selected for the assignment. If you want to go DAGRE, the Ravens for Special Forces, you have to be SecFor qualified, be one of the few selected to go to the qualifying course and if you are one of the 14 selected for the DAGRE Pipeline it is an eight week course.

Ask the Sky Marshals as many Ravens transitioned to their ranks. People like you have never been measured against a standard besides mediocrity.

Ravens, #1722 here, please visit mental health. You see more than regular SF ever sees. I've been there, I've seen the trafficking, the deaths, and had to walk away knowing I could have done more. Ravens carry a lot with them, mental health can help with the burden.

As a SERE selection wash-out that is now stuck in security forces, this is what I am setting my sights on.
“Stuck in” is not the mentality to have. If you want to be a RAVEN you shouldn’t have a mentality that you’re “stuck” being a defender.
