Result: he stays on the Swedish throne by promising and promptly delivering religious freedoms & local rule in Sweden. He still ends up involved in a Russian civil war and has his eldest son put on that throne. Again tolerance is delivered on. At first the Quad Union is more or less just a military alliance with even a customs union taking a long time to get in order. As a compromise Riga is made the capital of the union - and two grand new squares are built in a new district of the city: one with a royal palace, a hall of parliaments, and a hall of guilds, the other square with a cathedral for each branch of christianity in the Union, and even a synagoge and statues of the ancient greco-roman gods (with statues of the old Norse, Slavic & Baltic gods added centuries later).
That's a cursed timeline
PLC succesfully absorbing Russia and integrating russian nobles it while reforming would have massive consequences. Commonwealth would probably inherit Russia's ambitions, some policies and governing practices, but possible additional reforms which would happen could make it much more competent and effective than Russia actually was. I could see them doing what Russia did like trying to take Balkans from the Ottomans including Constantinople or even pushing further into the middle east, invading Central Asia and far east, setting colonies in Asia but also, some form of a pan-Slavic movement could be formed under Commonwealth's influence that would push into the consolidation of Slavic lands under their control.

@@rickardspaghetti Karl IX wasn't the first Karl, he was the third Karl! Karl Sverksson & Karl Knutsson Bonde came before him. Karl Knutsson Bonde was king three times(!), so Karl IX should be Karl III or Karl V depending on if using normal counting or US presidential counting.
