Same for me and the reason I learned to play guitar in the first place. I loved the tone of the guitars and had no idea it could be that interesting. 16 years later and I still love it.
I once arranged this into sheet music for clarinet and piano and played it in my senior recital in music school (sorry if I should've gotten permission first). My playing may not have done it justice, but having to transcribe it by ear made me greatly appreciate the genius behind its composition even more!
So glad to see everyone still performing and hopefully we'll get another album! Awesome stuff guys really. Also I love all the time sig changes in the middle 😂😂
Truly one of the greatest songs of all time. There is so much gold in this song, it doesn't miss. And the balance between the dirtiest chugs I've ever heard vs some of the most beautiful melodic portions and solos is excellent. And that "chaotic" section is glorious. Easily best Guitar Hero song of all time, forget Through The Fire And Flames (also great, but, come on, there's no competition). I can only just barely play the first main riff on real guitar, but it's probably my favourite riff to play, it's so fluid and natural.
This song is a gem, the bassline alone has given me hours of enjoyment and the tone they got on the recording of Impulse II is up there for best bass sound of all time imo.
That sort of staccato rhythm at 38 seconds in lives rent free in my head since the first time I heard this song. How nice to hear a new live rendition!
😮😮😮😮 Thank you for making an appearance! Always grateful of wining that contest of the signed drum snare and autographed cd. Please put out more music!
this song has a special place in my heart, the first ever instrumental song i've ever heard when i was a kid, knew it from guitar hero 3 (obv) such a good memories.
Shout out to guitar hero for making me hear songs like this and Six by All that Remains which eventually turned me into a metal-obsessed guitar nerd. Thanks fam!
The Flower Kings sang me 'happy brithday' on their Rainmaker tour in Montreal... i was twelve. Nothing in my entire music experince since has checked all the boxes, that is, until i found you! Your music is soul food in its purest form, thank you so much!
i had such a shitty long day today, then this showed up and put the biggest fucking smile on my face, the same way the sun of pearl playthrough did. love you guys! been a fan since american wasteland, you were one of the first bands i ever googled the discography of i think bc i was like 9 years old and never heard prog before. your self titled is so nostalgic for me, please do more!!
It's really great to hear this song again since 2008, one of my favorites alongside 'Anything'. You guys have always been pioneers, thank you for that!
The organ holds on that outro with the guitars over top is just killer. I remember thinking that (but not really understanding what was going on) when I first played Impulse on Guitar Hero waaaaay back when. Thank you for all your music over the years, seeing this video in my RUclips feed made me so happy!
2:43 definitely the hardest part to play of the song, especially as a band. Took me the time it took me to learn the rest of the damn song to learn that little breakdown on guitar. I dont listen to a lot of instrumental music but yours is always fun to hear in rotation, ameliorate and everything that has followed are gold
I feel that this song is single handedly responsible for a whole new generation of prog metal fans. Never heard anything like before Guitar Hero! This includes me, hats off to you guys!
Well this is a trip down memory lane! I remember buying their t-shirt when I was like 15 and it came packaged with a handwritten note from the band, I thought that was so cool! I will always be here for new AES releases 💟
Leading up to our shows this summer, we'll try to do more of these. At least smaller clips. Everything in our live show will be an enhanced version of these songs and we'll be very ready to film some of them soon. Thanks for the suggestion!
Man, every few years when I hear this song I just appreciate it more and more. This is a prog masterpiece and the old school prog style sounds so refreshing after all the modern prog metalcore crap (which I love too).
"Oh, cool, there's new music in my subscriptions, I wonder wh-AN ENDLESS SPORADIC?!"
same 😂
The first prog metal tune I ever heard. It'll always have a special place in my heart!
Same!
SAME! It's my whole life now!
Same for me and the reason I learned to play guitar in the first place. I loved the tone of the guitars and had no idea it could be that interesting. 16 years later and I still love it.
Listening to this song is like watching the sunrise after an all-nighter.
True
Odd but true
Literally happening at the moment I watch this, beautiful
With an acid in the brain
It feels so good to be here again.

Now we need to see this video with your 2009 album because that was some of the best drumming I’ve ever heard on an album
So glad to see this in my feed yesterday. I still have yet to hear another song quite like it...
Shout out to guitar hero for making me hear songs like this and Six by All that Remains which eventually turned me into a metal-obsessed guitar nerd. Thanks fam!

Incredible song! Great 💪🏻
The intro was one of the first riffs I ever learned when I started playing guitar. Welcome back!
It's really great to hear this song again since 2008, one of my favorites alongside 'Anything'. You guys have always been pioneers, thank you for that!
Haha I've loved AES ever since I first heard them on the Tony Hawk's American Wasteland soundtrack. Sun Of Pearl was my jam on that game.
No way… there’s a sequel to the song, AND there’s a music video?? This is beautiful
