I was and am a very precocious person. I have gone into places and amidst people where I was not invited but not shunned either. Jim Ed and some others were in a cafe off the Natchez Trace south of Nashville one afternoon in about 1981. I had stopped for a break from driving from Lexington, KY to Booneville, MS but did not know who he was. A child approached him and said his mother liked “Looking Back.” Jim Ed adjusted around and began to sing to her. She squealed and ran to her mom saying “he is gonna sing it.” Jim Ed and a few others sang a few songs for the little girl and her family. He was such a blessing to that family and all in the area. When finished he looked at me and I mouthed “thank you.” He saw my Bible on my table and said “I read it too.” It is a memory.
My eight-year-old daughter and I saw Jim Ed at the Grand Ole Opry in May 2014. He sang "Three Bells" and he was easily my favorite act of the night. Jim Ed sounded perfect and I was thrilled that my young daughter had the privilege of hearing a country music legend. Jim Ed, we know you're doing well in Heaven but we sure do you miss you down here. Take care.
Beautiful song. I've listened to Mr. Brown all my life and loved every song. I can remember all the times my siblings and I sang Living on the Love of The Common People. It was our favorite song that year. The last time we were all together we sang it again. Mr. Brown touched all our hearts.
I'm late to the party...didn't really know.of the Browns until I saw Country Family Reunion on youtube. I really enjoyed him on those shows and was sad to discover he had passed away. I'm now reading his wife's book.
What a beautiful song. But it is so very hard not to cry. He will be missed a lot. I thought he would be around for longer. Miss you and love you Jim Ed....
Jim Ed singing was special what a powerful gifted man. For many many years he entertain us. Jim Ed is still missed by us who listened to his singing, what a great man. All these great singers are in heaven still singing 🎸🎤
I am 73 now (as I write this) and I can so relate to this song. The Browns were such a favorite group of mine and I forgot how much, until I ran across their Album "The Best of the Browns." (1966) I was going through some boxes in my basement and had forgotten about the music I loved so much. I had never followed the progression of the group and when I hear Jim's music now...Well I can't express the mix of feelings. I understand Maxine is still alive as I write this, but I am overwhelmed with sadness, when I realize how many of my favorites (Including Eddy Arnold) have left this world. I play the music of Jim Ed brown, Maxine and Bonnie every day now and will most likely until it is my time...
what a beautiful tribute to a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and musician. i always love listening to mr. jim sing. we loss another great entertainer. god bless him and keeping the family in my prayers so sorry for your loss.
Several years ago we were introduced to The Three Bells by a family member. We later recorded it for "The Old Path", our second album, and it has become our most requested song during live concerts. We had never heard this song before, but it too has become a favorite.

Words cannot describe what influence you had in my singing. I shed a tear with every song that I listen too. I’m thankful you were the one who brought me out on my first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. Such a very kind, and professional man. I sure hope heaven is a good place for me to get to know you better. God rest you soul sir. 😔
Jim Ed should have been in the Hall of Fame LONG BEFORE he was on his death bed. Shame on the Hall of Fame for waiting until the midnight hour to induct Jim Ed. You are greatly missed, Jim Ed.
What a wonderful man Jim was. I had a chance to meet him a year ago on a cruise, how blessed we were to get to hear some of his stories. He was one of the warmest entertainers I have ever met.
This song brings me to tears as soon as it begins. I met Jim Ed in 1986 and we were good friends from that point until his death. I still can't believe he's gone. RIP my friend. You were the BEST and I will miss you forever.
I'm so glad he got to release his last album with When the Sun says hello to the mountain. I can listen to that over and over. Jim Ed we will truly miss you. Rest in peace dear man.
My condolances to the family of Jim Ed. He was a class act and a tre gentleman. One of my fondest memories of The Browns was when I was a young boy living on Ft Riley, Kansas (Junction City) around 1959. I still have the 45 rpm record of The Three Bells my older brother and I purchased at a local record shop. This was one of the old time record shops that had a demo-booth you could preview the record prior to purchase.
RIP Jim Ed, words can't describe the contributions "The Browns" made to America's Music! You all paved the way for those who have taken the Country Music Road!
It is sad he's gone now, but GREAT that he lived! I am only 44 years old, grew up and live in the northeast. I discovered Jim Ed and his sister's Maxine and Bonnie when I was maybe 11 years old. I cant say that I am a huge country fan, but I that I am a HUGE Jim Ed fan. His velvet voice and the harmonies of his sisters and anyone he performed with were really special. I know he is in heaven's choir now. I am so happy that he got to make some new music before he got sick. I'm going miss you Jim Ed!
So sorry to hear of the passing of Jim Ed Brown. He was a wonderful country music artist. My condolences to his family. I've been a fan since "The Three Bells."
Wow, Plowboy Records - That is so perfectly put. Have been a huge Jim Ed fan since the 60s. Listen to his music all the time. Living in New Jersey we head down south every two or three years or so. We were at the Opry in August of 2012 when Jim Ed finished singing his portion and introduced Ray Price. He said that he had finished chemo and is in remission and here he is for you folks. Now Ray and Jim Ed are both gone. I think of the wonderful reunion they are having and that Heaven is filled with so much more wonderful music. R.I.P. Jim Ed.
I know Jim Ed and the Browns thru my years of listening to their music. I had many of their albums, cassettes. Enjoyed the GOO for so many years. I even had the pleasure of being there once up a time. . Our Greats of country music will always live on, I just wish the industry can go back in time and find someone that can truly lead the next generation. I miss the pedal steel guitars.
