1:12 It looks good, however, I would suggest, remove the paint you applied on the surfaces where the frog meets the base. You will get a much finer contact with the plane body and no chatter on the blade. It also makes adjusting the frog a lot easier.
I was given one as a present, just finished restoring it. It is lightweight compared to the competition, otherwise nice. What blade did you get for it; the original is indeed thin?
Hey man, great work with your planes. Did you have to open the mouth on the number 4 or the number 6 to accommodate the new blade? All of my planes mouths seem too tight with the new blades
+CL58 - wood project Hi, it really depends on the kind of blade that's currently on your plane. The modern Stanley blades are usually of quite poor quality. The vintage blades can be okay, but I prefer thicker blades. The Veritas blade was a huge improvement over the original blade in this case. They are thicker and thus any chatter is greatly reduced. They also hold an edge better. Consequently, you will have better results. Be sure it fits your plane and frog though. Best of luck.
+CL58 - wood project They do offer blades that fit the 5 1/2 Stanleys. I believe you'll need the 2-3/8" width blade. However, be sure to measure the amount your depth adjustment Y-lever protrudes past the surface of the frog. This varies from plane to plane. This amount should be slightly more than the thickness of the Veritas blade. Otherwise, the Y-lever won't engage in the chipbreaker and depth adjustment will not be possible. I think I talk about this in the video as well. On most Stanley planes the Veritas blades will work just fine.
Mooi gedaan!
