I think point defence/missile defence guns are handled fundamentally differently to main guns in this game and there is no overlap in function, even the smaller AK-257 turrets and other small guns are simply treated as small main guns even if they would serve as part of the anti-missile defence in reality.
Another point to add to the RBU's is that, in my experience, it's best to not use them while the enemy Sub is evasive, trying to dodge Torpedoes. Usually that results in them also dodging all the RBUs. At the same time it's dangerous to fire at them when they've stopped going evasive, as they can usually point-and-shoot you with a torpedo in that case.
Here's one thing you wanna know. The RBU can destroy incoming torpedos. So if you turned around and switched on the RBU, they would engage the torpedo and possibly destroy it.

Using noisemakers to throw them off is good, but eventually they will turn back and reacquire, unless there is something else to catch their attention. This is when to use a Moss. Reversing course and looping over your own wake can confuse a following torpedo. If a torpedo is close but gets thrown off by a noise maker, launch a Moss straight ahead, cut speed and turn into the torpedo. If you do it right, then it will overshoot upon swinging back and acquire the moss. It takes practice and can be quite nail biting. Always keep a couple of Mosses loaded, at least. Nice one, but for nearly losing the ship. Lessons: - RBUs are cool, but you need to fire them when the sub is feeling safe enough to be on a steady course and if possible, not that deep. While their flight and sink time is short, it can be enough to put the sub out of the danger zone if it is manoeuvring. As happened more than once. - flying fish are nasty, especially when dropped a bit in front of you. Which way do you turn as you are getting closer and closer? - you may want to start using your torpedo tubes early: the torps need some time to get anywhere. - Torps are (temporary) area-denial weapons. - bracketing the enemy with torps (preferably snake torps) is going to make them busy soon. Make sure you enable early, in case they rush the torpedo (as happened at least once). Once they think they know which way to evade, drop a flying fish in front of them -- not exactly on top of them. Plug the hole you intentionally left open. Anywhere they go, they get a torpedo pinging at them. - flying fish are a good way to stop missile launching subs ... and you do not want to bet on your CIWS to save you every time. - avoid getting into the detection range of torps if you can ... you cannot dodge half as well as a sub. - Load a decoy or two right after the initial swimming fish launches. Or even before that. You might really need them. - if there are no neutral or friendly vessels around, what stops you from sending a snake-searching torp salvo over a 90 or more degree angle? *"Get off me front lawn! Damn submarines!"* - turn the guns on and leave them on, unless there is a pressing reason to turn them off. If they broach, even for a moment, the turrets already know that they may and should engage.

I'm curious as to what ship this was. If this was actually modeled after the ship bearing the name 'Udaloy', and not another ship in its class, then there is a dev problem. The Udaloy did not have a VLS system for deploying anti-submarine missiles. The Udaloy used SS-N-14 missiles out of 4 double launchers for ASw warfare. The VLS system it did have consisted of 64 cells which fired the SS-N-9 which was strictly anti-air. The Udaloy itself was never modernized and refitted to fire ASW weapons from VLS launchers. Other ships in the class did undergo such modernization, and the newer Udaloy II also had such capabilities. At 1:15 when you launched at the LA class sub, you incorrectly said it was a VLS launch, but you can clearly see it did not come from a VLS launcher.

A single Udaloy taking on an LA and a Sturgeon...that's another thing you'll only see in Cold Waters. AFAIK they expected to need 3-4 of these to take on a single NATO nuclear attack sub and lose most of them in the process. Where do you get dot mod from?
Wolf we need more ship to ship possibly task force to task force like war on the sea but cold waters id love to see capital ships enage each other
I don't know if it's because the mod didn't install right but forming knuckles and dropping decoys don't seem to do anything for me
I have a question for you, Wolfpack.
What would a duel between you and Magztv look like?
I'd watch that.
have you guys seen sherman play naval combat in the missile age
liked your video, my time aboard a american attack sub, we had a hugh advange over all surface ships. I cant understand 1 ship beats 3 subs?
What is the name of this game please. Where can I find it?
Was very intense 😃 *thumbs up for video*
Would you fancy making a NATO 1984 campain with a diesel submarine? Kobben or Oberon preferably. How is the helicopter deployed btw?
It isn't, helicopter and towed array isn't modeled for the player on any of the vessels.
That was a great vid! I'm quite new to CW. I'm mostly flight combat sims, but have always been interested in sub sims as well. I learned quite a bit from your video, thanks!
What mods are you using? Are you using "Epic mod" for the panels along the bottom? Does that give you extra mission like the one in this vid? I looked at Epic, but it seemed like there was a lot of extra baggage that didn't want. What's your experience?
I always like the missions that you pick to play.
i have to say having actual ship to play in cold waters it makes game much more interesting
I have the game (Cold Waters )but i can't find surface ships in the game..only submarines.....where are them?
I dont really have knowledge about this game but i think its a mod called dot mod
But also search the Google
If the LA class sub is nuclear would it have an oil slick?
A single Udaloy taking on an LA and a Sturgeon...that's another thing you'll only see in Cold Waters.
AFAIK they expected to need 3-4 of these to take on a single NATO nuclear attack sub and lose most of them in the process.
Of course, NATO ASW surface ships of the period were similarly outmatched by their nominal prey...
I know US doctrine was to use 3 ASW ships for 1 enemy sub.
Cold Waters is interesting to watch, but it's really quite arcadish compared to the much older Dangerous Waters.
Just out of curiosity where did you find this mod. I've been searching for cold Waters mods and so far have only found one that adds a lot more playable submarines
don't know if dotmod has royal navy type 23 frigates but i'd like to see you play one if they do
Type 21 is in DotMod
can you do the campaign with this mod also?
Let's see you do the same type mission with the Spurance!
Fantastically entertaining video!
You should have turned to port initially to unmask all your weapons.
honestly, idk what you're specifically doing. But D*mn that was cool af dude xD
What mod are you running with this?
i didn't know you could control ships to? is this a mod or ?
Can you deploy the helo or us it just for show?
Was the background music (early minutes of the video) in-game music or a production addition?
All the music is a production addition at this point :)
@@Wolfpack345 Poggerschamp it was epic
Is there a way to shut off prestige and ranks?
This is what happens when you don't get the heck out of Dodge 😉
What I’d like to see next is some longer vids of surface fleet action maybe a campaign mode 🔥💯❤️🔥
I really enjoyed the SH4 campaign, i hope we might see a new one one day
Silly question but what game is this?
Top notch to watch!
nice video wolf, please show more of it
ASW is never not nail-biting.
why no helicopter involved?
The Ohio launches a nuke, game over. If we've learned anything over the last couple months Russian ship missile defense doesn't work. lol Maybe your crew will "accidently" start a fire in the magazine.
🔥💯😂🤣
What mod is this? :D
You should do a surface campaign
Reminds me of the Yvechenko in Hunter Killer
Keep up the great work 👍
I don't think you got hit when you were operating the iowa
Bummer at the end
That was dope AF
Good fight. Good video.
Lots of moving parts here.
