Given the number of AK-725s those Ugras carry, I would not risk a gun engagement with them. "Hmm, I wonder what that is" >Press F2 to focus on the Ugra >BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM >Press F1 >My submarine has disappeared under a shower of shell splashes. >Immediately crash dive. I somehow only get away with a few percentage points of damage.
that ship should never have been allowed within range…the 5” guns should have taken it out or at least a missile, there’s no excuse for that small ship getting so close at all
When I was going through my navy "A" school in Dam Neck, Virginia, there was a 5" gun set up. As far as I know, it was the only live fire range on the Atlantic. I remember seeing it being fired one day. I could see the shells leaving the barrel and streaking towards the horizon. I could not see any splashes. They were probably inert to begin with or they were just landing too far away to make out. IIRC, the horizon is 12 miles away.
I know the 76mm on the Perry frigates was anti-air only. In the Med there was a gigantic bullseye on the side of a slanted mountain we were shooting at, testing its surface capabilities. That thing fired fast for as big as it was.
Distance to horizon depends on the observers height above see level, and for a 6ft person stood on a beach that's only about 3miles/4 km. From the deck of a ship that distance is going to be higher and even more so if you're looking out from a tower.
13:50 -- a 5" shell kill-steals from the missile, which bounces the debris (i.e. blows off the top half of the ship as debris) muttering "destroy them as they die".
I just LOVE how you are getting your ass reamed by that small, half-dead torpedo boat. Talk about a david and goliath situation. Lesson in humility, delivered.
That little patrol boat charging you down and attacking with his hedgehog depth charge launcher was badass. I guess you damaged the launchers with shellfire and he had to repair them before he could fire, which is pretty cool. If the other escorts had attacked you with the same ferocity (instead of running) they might have overwhelmed you.

Definitely keep some backup saves at various parts or avoid literally cold waters entirely. Cold Waters isn't exactly meant for surface ships and I know I've lost a Kirov campaign because I ended up in a fight in the Barents Sea. Tried reloading five times or so but every single time it'd try starting me out on ice.
Wolfpack just for future reference when you fire the RIM 2 missiles you have to set each middle to anti ship every missile. It does not stay on the same mode you had it on with the last missile. It is always anti missile mode when you reload and won’t go for ships. It’s annoying but it has to be changed with every missile you fire.
Disregarding small boats is done at your peril. Everything Soviet had a nasty bite seeing as their raison d'etre was missile and gun overkill. It's a shame you couldn't take along a couple of Arleigh Burke's with you. I shall be looking forward to more of this most definitely.
Nice to see you try those surface ships out. They are a lot of fun. A few things I noticed tho: -You fired a lot of missiles in „anti missile“ mode which is the standard mode when you reload them. So to ripple fire the sm 2s against ships use r to reload and then 1 twice to switch to anti ship mode and only then fire. -you only used CIWIS against missiles. This does work if there are only a few coming in but it is very dangerous. You should probably (since you have a lot of them and you can fire them without cool-down due to the VLS) use the sm2s against incoming missiles and only use ciwis for any that the missiles fail to intercept (you also have a secondary SAM system which you can enable by clicking on that small missile symbol in your hud - this will intercept some enemy missiles automatically) Also don’t forget about the Harpoons 😉 Great video I have to say tho - just wanted to give those tips which I learned playing around with the ships. Using all this you can even win against multiple Kirovs in the Late Ticonderoga with VLS (because the AI is not that good at using the missiles).
@@DerLoladin The RIM-66s aren't meant to be used against ships, that's a secondary function so of course they have limited effectiveness in that role. The VLS has the capability (don't know about your game) to fit a quad pack of ESSM missile in a VLS Cell which are primarily used for close in anti-air targets (incoming missile). This could become interesting if the game gives you the ability to load out your VLS with some ESSM's and you used the missiles as they were intended.

Unfortunately the VLS missiles in Anti-Ship mode seem to not have carry a warhead in them and are pure impact missiles (They have an explosion VFX, but practically no damage). I have tested this extensively with RIM-66 vs. Harpoon missiles and where the RIM-66 may take 5-7 hits (and their tracking is awful), the harpoons do the same job in 1-2 hits. It's quite unfortunate and makes NATO surface gameplay extremely painful IMO.
Considering the fact that the RIM-66 is primarily an anti-air missile and has a warhead 1/4 the size of the Harpoon's (and that is continuous-rod rather than straight-up HE), I'd say it makes sense that it does much less damage and doesn't track as well.

Hi, I can't help thinking the scenario seems a little strange. Your ship launches chaff and defeats the incoming missiles, but the soviets just sit on deck and make no attempt to do the same? I know Soviet stuff can be clunky, but surely they can afford some chaff dispensers - and they have the wit to use them now and again? Cheers, Brian
Since Cold Waters wasn't optimized for surface combat, you have to fire your SM-2 to go active BEFORE the actually reach the target. This is difficult for enemy missile intercept since you have to guess where the enemy missile will be relative to your own weapon prior to it going active (or in missile speak, pitbull).
Every soviet cold war era ship was armed to the teeth with guns to the max if we had a 5 in gun they had multiple barreled equal or usually higher caliber. Surface gun battles were last thing you wanted to do against them. Harpoon was best antiship weapon against a ship unless your platform had tomahawks & as several have noted sm2 had no where the same punch vs a ship. Love this series Keep em coming Wolfpack345!!!
Lord, can we PLEASE get the CGNs in game now, since they would've been front and center for the Cold War scenarios? Also, the emergency diesel generators aren't tied to main propulsion turbines. Or generators. How did that leave you DIW?
i think the diesel thing is just an oversight by the mod makers. you can tell they have kinda just cobbled everything together - when the damage report came through the AI crewman calls "damage control parties lay into the reactor space", so probably the actual damage was to power/propulsion but the different hitboxes and DC groups aren't properly assigned.
Ticons are badass! My dad served on the USS Hue City from 2001 - 2005. He was one of the only 3 corpsman aboard her. At one point, she was a flagship, but now she’s about to mothballed.

I've got a question about this mod, I've previously been playing epic and the way you repair stuff on that mod is by multiple clicking on the broken module, how do you repair any module on this mod, I've been scratching my head with a broken towed decoy for a while now.
Hey I've played the epic mod and the interface is basically the same. Here's some tips: 1. you can use the number keys (1-3) to change the respective settings on the selected tube. Some missiles, like the SAM2, are unfortunately not in ship mode by default so many were launched in anti-missile mode. That said I have no idea what the second setting is (1 or 2 hmmm). 2. There is a keybind for chaff, delete I think, as to save you the time to click the button. 3. You have an automatic anti-missile system you can enable via the missile button under 'RIM-66M-5', with that said the CIWS is pretty reliable, especially when broadsiding. One thing I might suggest is that you give your missiles a little more homing time as they CAN (miss or) circle back after you (its an awkward way to go :p).
From Google: "Is Ticonderoga still in service? Of the twenty-one Ticonderoga-class vessels currently in service, the Navy seeks to decommission as many as seven cruisers for the 2022 fiscal year: namely, the Anzio, Port Royal, Hué City, San Jacinto, Vella Gulf, Lake Champlain, and Monterey. At least five more cruisers are on the chopping block through 2026"

well nov 12 this year we'll have a real naval game for surface and submarine gameplay with ally vessels and air-craft called sea power
Gotta watch out for that cavitation, the enemy fleet might realize you're there
"What the heck, why not". Captain, I do believe when you will be relieved. Because what the heck, why not.
Thanks Wolfpack! Do enjoy the surface combat (as well as subs) also like the ASW as well.
Love this video. Maybe start a new series on this mod using the ship like this video
16:50 This is that point in any Hollywood bar fight scene where the bad guys are all over the floor, and that one guy comes into the room "I can take him!"
Sweet video! I'm a bit of a bigger fan of watching from the surface vessel's POV than submarines, so I hope you continue to play with surface ships.
The crew on the germen trawler were absolutely sitting back and eating popcorn.
Super excited for Sea Power. Can't play CW right now so gonna be binging Wolfpack to get my fix throughout the summer.
Great video!!! Gotta have more of this surface content!
Takes me back to Janes Fleet Command and back to my days as an EW in the Navy without the hangover.
This is awesome. Let's see what some Oliver Hazard Perry can do with their backs to the wall against insurmountable odds
Murphy's laws of combat " If the Enemy is in range So are You! "
Loving these surface battles! Thanks!!
Thanks for watching!
I was stationed on the USS Hue City CG 66. It was the same platform.
Hi,
I can't help thinking the scenario seems a little strange.
Your ship launches chaff and defeats the incoming missiles, but the soviets just sit on deck
and make no attempt to do the same? I know Soviet stuff can be clunky, but surely they can afford some
chaff dispensers - and they have the wit to use them now and again?
Cheers,
Brian
Since Cold Waters wasn't optimized for surface combat, you have to fire your SM-2 to go active BEFORE the actually reach the target. This is difficult for enemy missile intercept since you have to guess where the enemy missile will be relative to your own weapon prior to it going active (or in missile speak, pitbull).
That was absolutely devastating and brutal!
The whole fleet wiped from the surface of the earth!!!
Excellent content 👌
Hope you like the surface ships! Good practice for Sea Power
They are fun! Will be doing more for sure
@@Wolfpack345 make sure to try the Arleigh Burke class
My good man, what are your thoughts on doing a mission featuring an Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate? I would love to see that!
The ship I'm stationed on is a Tico. Thr Navy is now getting rid of these ships mine was one that survived the cut, so far at least.
Wow!! Bunker hill. I served on board her in the mid 90’s when she was home ported in Yokosuka Japan.
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
Best mod showcase yet! Looks amazing!
Ever try Jane's Fleet Command? It's kinda old but still the benchmark for surface action group warfare
I'm interested in seeing the Cruiser vs submarines.
Will you also be trying out the Sea Wolf in a few scenarios?
Every soviet cold war era ship was armed to the teeth with guns to the max if we had a 5 in gun they had multiple barreled equal or usually higher caliber. Surface gun battles were last thing you wanted to do against them. Harpoon was best antiship weapon against a ship unless your platform had tomahawks & as several have noted sm2 had no where the same punch vs a ship. Love this series Keep em coming Wolfpack345!!!
Jeez! That Ugra was banging away at you like he bought the game!
Really cool video, Friend!!! Could you do a "Carreer" with this vessel? Id love to see more.
Not being a gamer, I was preCom on the last Tico USS Port Royal (CG-73) out of Pearl. Best years of my life. Such a shame she is gone too soon.
Reminds me of one of my most favorite games, Harpoon by Three-Sixty Pacific Software from 1989, just not on such a 3D visual level.
I did a deployment on CG73 USS Port Royal and that firing rate for the 5 inch pretty accurate.
I've always loved the Ticonderoga class cruisers. There isn't a lot of media or content in other games that involve them ether.
How do you dive a missile cruiser?!?!?! WHERE DOES IT HIDE
I'm struggling to figure that part out as well...
@@Wolfpack345 I guess all ships can dive, once at least
Literally served on the bunker hill. We called her cell block 52.
Ticons are badass! My dad served on the USS Hue City from 2001 - 2005. He was one of the only 3 corpsman aboard her. At one point, she was a flagship, but now she’s about to mothballed.
Oh cool they are my neighbors.
@@colestockdale5616 Really? What ships have you been on?
Thumbnail is of my old ship CG53 Mobile Bay. These were good ships to serve on.
I cant wait to see more of these surface warfare videos. This is dope
Kirov class battlecruiser against US task force would be fun.
Really love this! Please keep more coming
How fun is this! Loved it wolf!!!
I would think doctrine would be to alternate between bow and stern VLS so that one launcher would not run out of missiles considerably before the other. It also depend on which missiles are loaded between the two VLS systems.
Great video. Looking forward to more surface combat episodes on the channel.
1:57 that "fire vls" line sounds like sky eye from ac4
Wait until the navy starts using the hyper velocity 5 inch gun ammunition! It will be an awesome game changer! They’ve already tested the ammunition. 20 rounds rapid fired at one Rimpac 2 years ago. From a DDG.
That one Poti class be like "FOR NARNIA, AND FOR ASLAN"
The job ain't done until the paperwork is finished or in this case the job ain't done until that last ship is sunk or disabled so severely it's no longer a threat. NEVER EVER underestimate the fight in a little dog because more often than not, they're going to get you
im super excited for sea power! hope we get a date soon
This was awesome, more surface action please. :-)
imagine being that pour norwegian fisherman just minding his own business wondering what all those wierd whistling noises are until a Harpoon derps and ruins his day
Thoroughly enjoyed that ,more please !
Hi. Thank you for these clips. Can you do a modern cruiser against a flotilla of ww 2 era containing battle ships and several other types of that era ships and subs. Thanks again.🙏👌
GOD DAMN this mod is amazing!! would love a fully fledged game like this!
Dude, if this had player v player muliplayer, it would be so fun, 3v3 ships or subs
Dude, nicely done. I look forward too more surface action.
YES!!! Love 2 see more of the surface battles in this mod
I’d heard of this game before, this guarantees that I’ll be getting it!!
Please Do 3 Kirovs and 4 Krivak 1s Vs an entire Combined US Carrier fleet,
I've got a question about this mod, I've previously been playing epic and the way you repair stuff on that mod is by multiple clicking on the broken module, how do you repair any module on this mod, I've been scratching my head with a broken towed decoy for a while now.
Hey I've played the epic mod and the interface is basically the same. Here's some tips:
1. you can use the number keys (1-3) to change the respective settings on the selected tube.
Oh, definitely try the Kirov, most fun I've had with the mod. Very versatile and terrifying ship.
Absolutely awesome. How about an AB class against Chinese PLA Navy?
Actually, when you have incoming missiles, you have to call out;
Vampire, Vampire!
At least five more cruisers are on the chopping block through 2026"
Great stuff! Do more surface stuff! At least with this you are in real danger of being hit unlike the sub play. Is there a surface campaign?
Is it going to be a series? I would love that Wolfpack345
That seapower you are talking about, is it with us in the room right now?
