I am not a Leeds supporter but I always admired Hunter. He was a better player than he was given credit for. He wasn't just a tackler he could distribute the ball too. He was unlucky not to have won more England caps but he was in the same queue as Bobby Moore, however, if Moore was ever injured the side wouldn't lose anything because Norman would step in alongside his club mate Jackie Charlton to form an effective defence. A friend of mine met Norman Hunter a couple of times and he said that he was a gentleman. God bless Norm.

Great 'view. I joined the army in Harrogate' 68 & was ignorant of footy until I watched tv footy & adopted Leeds as my team & being Scottish, well plenty of Jocks in United & the rest of' em. Scots footy wise propped up Divvy One! It wud have been pretty dull without us. Back then money was tight but wish I had gone & seen them. Nearly did once in '72 but match was off due to snow, so turned car back. It had to be really bad to be called off back then, teams would play in icy snowy pitches & created great unpredictable games. If you're my age group you will remember Keith Weller being the first player to wear ladies black wooly tights, it was that cold. Now its normal. Two things in my life were the Beatles & Leeds United. And both funnily enough had that tight unique bonding. And both had chart hits!!

So im on holiday sitting outside a bar in menorca waiting for the england game to start when an old guy asks if the table next to me is free.. Help yourself i say, thinking he looked familiar i asked my wife if he lived near us back home... Never seen him before she replies. So game started and england were hopeless, im telling the old guy how they should be playing. He asks me where im from.. Here we go i thought, i do know him... Newcastle i replied.. Thought so he said, im from there but moved away years ago to yorkshire he said... After the game finished he got up and said.. Nice meeting you, enjoy your holiday, and off he walked into the night. I remember thinking he looks fit for his age.. Must have been very fit as a young man.... Fast forward few years to covid and i was saddened to read norman hunter had died. The article said after football norman moved to menorca. It showed some recent pics of him... Then the penny dropped... Id only been sitting next to 66 hero and leeds legend for 90mins, telling him how the game should be played, and me never kicked a ball in my life.. And id no idea who he was, and he was to much of a gentleman to say.
    R. I. P Norman.
