Along with the electric ratchet, I think this is one of the niftiest setups Milwaukee has made. Me and my dad always snap a chalk line but that gets old fast, but we make do. Can’t always drop 700 bucks for something when we only need it for a project. By no means it that a dig aimed towards you, do what you want with your money. it means I get to watch more ProHo tool reviews!
I use the Empire E902 cutting guide, which is less than $30. It's made of 2 pieces 49" long, which can be connected together to make it 98" long. It helps me a lot, but I don't have a lot of experience freehanding long cuts.

Hey Cody just wanted to give you a tip in my shop we run the same saw. What I would do if I were you is get a piece of foam board under the piece of plywood ur cutting it’s light weight and cheaper then wood.
These videos are starting to feel like the old videos. Love it.
I built myself the BroHo (broke homeowner) version several years ago...Cut a 3 or 4 inch strip off the length of a sheet of 1/2" plywood. Glue and nail it on top of another wider strip of 1/2" ply. The wider strip needs to be a little wider than your saw foot so you can do the cut off method like in this video to set the exact cut line. If you attach the skinny strip so that the factory edge is what the saw rides against it produces very accurate cuts. The store bought version is a little better since it is longer than 8ft and lighter than mine, but you can't beat the price!
I did the exact same thing, and get excellent results. Made a couple different lengths.
Why all this effort? All you need is a long straight edge and a couple of clamps, done.
@@AtimatikArmy it's so you can lay the "track" right on your mark to cut. If you use only a straight edge you have to account for the width of the saw foot and offset the straight edge by that much. This is a maybe five minute investment of time up front to save a minute or two on each future cut.

Like a couple other folks have mentioned, a "2 inch thick piece of insulation foam board underneath the plywood while cutting works great". So true! Best tip I could pass along. Also, highly recommend investing in the 118" long rail. Connecting the 2 rails gets to be a pain after awhile. Clamps aren't required but make the track, that much more secure. Once you get used to using it, you will be glad you bought it. Best tool I have invested in. Love my track saw. (Carpenter for more than 30 years.)
The Milwaukee M18 Fuel Tools are truly some of the best cordless power tools on the market right now. The M18 Fuel Impact Driver is a beast! All my shoptools are Milwaukee but my miter saw and table saw are corded DeWalt tools. Going to have to look into this track saw… Thanks W!
Milwaukee is king right now yeah they've got some good people in charge. Even the new mitre saw with the shadow line is levels above and I've had dewalt mitre saws for 2 decades
Lol, I’ve been cutting real butcher clock counter tops for my kitchen with a track saw allday. I own the Makita variant. Have both tracks long and short. Love it. A beast. Milwaukee has come along way. Wonderful tool. Just make sure you dial the track guides in and soap your track. Love you brother. Keep it up. New tools are always fun for us non boozers
The clamps may come in handy if the "stickiness" is lost from the sawdust

2 tips for getting incredibly CLEAN cuts with your tracksaw.
1) use a 4x8 pinkboard sheet for a waste backer board
2) make 2 cuts every time; first, make a very shallow scoring cut from right to left (reverse, or climb, cut), before making a full depth cut in normal direction. Go a little extra deep on full depth cut, so that teeth are cutting nearly vertically. This 2 pass cut will leave you with perfect, crisp cuts…no tearout and little to no furring.
Now Milwaukee just needs to come up with a cordless charger. 😏
I've had the Festool track saw for 15 yrs now & love it. It's also great for making a straight edge on a bowed board.

I keep a 4×8 sheet of ridged foam insulation in my shop as a sacrifical cutting surface when using my track saw. Its convenient and helps with dust collection if you are using it. I do use a festool track saw and festool vac
As a woodworker, the plunge saw is always part of my workflow. One option you may like for your setup is a Guide Rail Square (i.e. from TSO Products or other supplier). Found it to be a great piece of kit for the saw.
a $1000 (thats about £700 uk) is a steep price for tools that i can still cut with a circular saw that i already have. the ply boards are square, or at least they should be, all you need are some clamps, set the saw where you need it on the line, use one of the ply boards as the straight edge and clamp it down, then run the circular saw down the cut. i can understand a business buying one as flow is important, they can justify it, but as a DIY guy, i dont have enough special jobs to justify that tool. one of the very few reasons i would get that tool is if i was installing Granite worktops in a kitchen or bathroom. Howdens joinery is the place i go to for kitchens, when my dad was alive and had his business we went on the granite worktop course, the guys running the workshop showed us how it was done, tools needed and to drum up interest in trade guys to try sell granite worktops to customers. they recommended a plunge saw for working with granite.
Are track saws a game changer? YES! I've had the Wen 7.25" for a few years. Considerably less expensive than this, but it works great for breaking down plywood sheets.
Thanks for the suggestion - a $200 setup is *way* more in my budget than a $1k one. Particularly for how infrequently I need to work with large sheets.
Wen for the home gamer is a great fit. You’ll know when you need to upgrade when it just doesn’t cut it anymore (pun unintended).
It's really nice hearing someone having the same concerns as me when it comes to tape measures. I've always much preferred rulers when it's possible/practical to use one.

Milwaukee is the best for the battery tech. The quality of the battery, mated with a decent tool is the real deal! The M12 tools are fizz-worthy! The track saw as well! Nice demo and congrats on heirloom tools acquisition!
If it hasn't been stated already, get a TSO guide rail square. Make sure you get the rail square that fits Milwaukee, Makita, and Festool. Also, get a sheet of 1.5" or 2" pink foam board as a sacrificial piece to put under your plywood.
When you use a Festool track saw with dust collection hose you literally have a teaspoon of sawdust left over. When you get tired of eating sawdust Festool really have no competition.

I am a Milwaukee guy through and through. However, if I were to do woodworking for a living, I would have nothing but Festool. Absolutely incredible precision woodworking tools.
I have nothing against the tool line so much but I do not thing I will ever buy them as I have come to hate the Festool fan boys. (emphasis on the word "boys")
Track saws coupled with tracks are a great addition to your tool inventory as they work well for breaking down sheet goods. I own and have used many times my Festool TS75 and it is indispensable. The tracks can be used for other operations such as milling dadoes and rabbits in sheet stock by buying accessories to augment the use of the tracks.
Your track should have a long enough overhang on each end so you can plunge the saw BEFORE and AFTER cutting the sheet good.
I have a 36v makita track saw..... Best tool I have ever used. Will cut with a level of precision that defies belief
A nice addition to the track is a TSO Products guide rail square. Great for making crosscuts

For cutting up your sheet goods get yourself a 4’x8’ sheet 2” or 3” thick rigid foam insulation to put under the sheet you are cutting.

I bought the Milwaukee M12 pin nailer about a year ago. Used it to hang screen molding on a cabinet install, no complaints. Cheers.
Track saws are a game changer. I invested in makita cordless years ago but now Milwaukee has just passed them in so many offferings so I regret that investment slightly. Still like my makita drills and saws.
I don't know how I ever lived without a track saw. Now I use it more than my table saw. The biggest thing is making saw horses with "sacrificial tops" so I can just cut through and not worry about it.
I have never saw a portable track saw. That is definitely going on the list for things to acquire.

I have one and have so far built a table with it. It’s worth every penny in my opinion. It’s a great tool.
I used one quite a bit building custom reptile enclosures and breeding racks. And any long span that needed a dead straight cut. We had the full Makita set and it felt and looked just as skookum. Id recommend using the clamps when able. The track saw was the answer for our shop for months as a stepping stone to a full sized CNC machine.
We use our track saws everyday. We get a lot of calls for old doors that don’t fit. Can clamp the track in place and cut as needed. Finishing off decks, sheet goods, anything. It doesn’t replace the table saw for repetitive cuts though.
I have had a CORDED track saw for ten plus years. It has been one of my favorite tools. I have been tempted to go cordless. I never use the clamps but a suggestion is to use a sacrificial piece of high density foam insulation to cut on. I typically use the 2 in thick pink or purple foam. It really is a good surface to cut on.

For future reference get you a seat a 4x8x1/2" foam to put under your plywood to cut on. You can use it multiple times and it saves your blades from not having to have an extra board under you plywood.

We are cordless primarily and I work for a major international general contractor. There are exceptions but most of us love the cordless tools because unloading a 5k genset daily sucks.

Two things.....do not push the two guides tight to one another. Leave a 32nd between the ends where you join them. The end are sometimes not exactly square to the cutting edge. Secondly, get a piece of 2" x4' x8' hard foam and cut the sheets on that. Extremely stable.
The track saw is a great addition to the workshop and will get plenty of use. Milwaukee is always great quality too.

Been after a tracksaw for a couple years. Generally on layout like that I use a good 7 mil mechanical pencil. I’m after a festool ts75.
My cousin does IT for Milwaukee and gets a great discount on the tools, and has totally replaced all his other stuff with Milwaukee. He says it was pretty funny when a truck drops off a pallet of tools at your house.
TSO guide rails and square should be added to your arsenal.

You know what does the same thing? A nice straight edge, a couple of clamps and the circular saw you already have. Since those items I already own, zero cost. Exactly the same thing as track saw (however, it does require you to use your brain a little),
Ive been wanting a tracksaw for ahwile now and im glad i waited til milwaukee came out with one since all my tools are milwaukee, their tracksaw is relatively new like the past couple years new. The only thing i gotta run a cord for while at work is my charger😂 as a carpenter doing mostly finish work i use my 16g, 18g and 23g milwaukee nail guns the most.
I'm rebuilding a home right now (first time) and needed a brad (pin) nailer but ended up needing both 15 and 18 gauge, most of my stuff is Milwaukee but I got a compressor and both sized of nailer for less then their cordless one.
My Bosch professional tracksaw also uses festool tracks. Or it can be used with festools to be precise

I keep my little Ryobi power inflator on my bench to blow off sawdust and metal shavings, would work great for that track.
Table saw will always have a place for repeat cuts, battery plunge saw is probably one of the best earning tools I have tho, along with cordless circ saw and cordless oscillating tool (obviously I’m not using a Yankee or bit and brace either!)
When the dust starts,especially on melimine laminated. Thats when the clamps are useful
I've been kicking around the idea of getting either the Milwaukee or Festool. I see videos where they put a 1 1/2 foam board under the plywood. Definitely would like to see more of this in action. Take care!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my tracksaw, but I’m very good with a circular saw and often still use it for most cuts. Also, I still use my tablesaw often, especially for cutting rips on narrow boards etc.
I've heard people say that if you put a carbide tipped steel cutting blade on these track saws you use it to cut perfectly straight steel plates.
Hey Proho, I have the ridgid system. Try getting 4-6 inch 4x8 ridgid foam to cut on. You will save your blade!
You say, "I'd have to set up saw horses and a table to use the tabke saw." That's exactly what you had to set up to use this new cutting system.
Getting the clamps ahead of time is probably a good investment, allows you to rip goods if you don’t have a stable platform, and if there’s ever issues from slippage due to sawdust on the material or it’s too narrow to put the whole rail on

I just had a flashblack of my ex-brother-in law. An experienced professional carpenter who removed the blade guard from his old-school A.C. powered hand-held circular saw, because "it slowed him down". It was scary whenever I saw him use it.
Personally, I've spent ~1-2 hours creating a jig that works with a circular saw to save some money. That being said, I am rarely working with sheets of plywood or wood slabs.
The are 2 to go brands for tracksaws. Festool and mafell!
But for a proho already invested in a battery platform Milwaukee or Makita is the way to go.
Hey Cody, have you considered building a workbench on wheels with your Dewalt table saw built into it. I realize the last thing you need is another workbench but it would make for a great video and you may really enjoy the flexibility of a workbench you could easily roll around your shop. Just a thought…. Chris

Double fizz - cordless and a track. I would get one if I had lots of large sheets to cut. Definitely worth it not to mess up and waste expensive plywood.
Never tried one, would like to do an experiment, which is faster, taking your time, with a skil saw, following the line, or setting up the track, and cutting quickly.
I have a festool setup, you should definitely think about getting another 55in piece of track for the 4 foot cuts. I absolutely love the track saw. Barely ever use my delta unisaw anymore..
Yep, the foam board is the go.....saves a lot of lugging etc. The stickiness soon fails so the clamps are then useful but the adhesive strips and the curf line strip are also replaceable. The initial cut trick was cool though. The Festool clamps are stupidly expensive. Temu or something is the answer there.
The clamps can be helpful, but depending on what you do, most times you don't need them. E.g., it could be useful if you need to reach over in an awkward position, makes things more stable and secure. But I never heard that they would be required.
I've had the corded Wen version for a few years now. Track saws work great. Does the Milwaukee version have a skim mode? On the Wen, I can flip a switch, and have it just skim the first 1/8" or so to prevent tearout. Then, go back to start, flip to full depth, and repeat the cut. Perfect on both faces.
I have dewalts version of this. Never have needed the clamps. Crazy expensive, but it’s a great tool.

I dig these but I can't justify the investment for the amount of use that it would get as a DIY tool.
I bought the Milescraft track guide, which allows you to mount your own circular saw. About 200 bucks with the extra tracks to make 8 ft rip cuts. It takes a little bit of extra setup initially but it works great.
Good enough that my contractor style table saw is going on marketplace soon.

I like to rip on a piece of foam and for sheet goods I’ll set it on the floor to reduce the reach.
I found that even with care, eventually I ending up needing the clamps.
